And if so, how would you style it?

I'm a bit out my depth really Blush

All the people saying ' don't get dressed up for tea at the ritz"... Perhaps the OP WANTS to get dressed up! It's an expensive treat! The whole " oh it's like having a cup of tea at Frank's caff" schtick is so snobby and unpleasant.
She wants to wear the dress she linked to, which some people were saying was too casual. No-one is telling her not to bother and just come in any old scruffs. Confused

Hey all.

A bit of a mixed bag of responses.

I'll post the photo but please be gentle, self esteem is battered after years of Hefty. Sad

To answer a few questions, I'm 50. DD1 (21yo) is my accompaniment - she's treating me for my Big Fivezero.

It's also my 30th wedding anniversary this year, and there's a few other Swanky events this summer, so I was hoping it'd do a few Out Out Outings.

My style is very maxi plus nice bumpers (comfort firmly rules) but I thought trainers were a no go at The Titz? Was going to treat myself to some Veja, if trainers were allowed.

It's a lovely dress - wear it with trainers and you'll look fab. You might be too hot in boots and you can definitely break in trainers before you go if you don't have any.

Have a fabulous afternoon Smile

Ninkanink · 13/05/2021 20:20

@NaiceAftTea definitely get the vejas! They will honestly be perfect.

Er - that dress is dressed up. I think what a lot of people mean is don't get overdressed.

The ones saying it's a beach dress are planks though.

NaiceAftTea · 13/05/2021 20:21

Oh and jewellery?

I normally wear diamond stud earrings and diamond solitaire necklace. My late mom's beautiful beautiful opal bracelet layered with a few other bracelets. Diamond ring and wedding engagement.

I'm very low key jewellery wise do I need to up my game?

I very fancy 70s sunnies though. Could anyone suggest?

You might want to phone up the Ritz and check. I would have felt under dressed in anything like jeans or trainers. That’s the whole point - dressing up to go to a nice place. There are different sections, I’ve mainly eaten in the dinner part.

NaiceAftTea · 13/05/2021 20:21

It's in June, sorry, keep remembering questions.

Op the dress code says trainers are not allowed in any of the restaurants or bars

NaiceAftTea · 13/05/2021 20:23

No trainers Sad

Oh I’ve just checked and it seems the dress code prohibits trainers.

So I’d bring trainers in your bag and maybe wear some ballerinas or something while you eat?

I think depending on the weather, flat sandals or tan ankle boots would work. Knee high might be a bit too warm for June.

I think that you could carry some big statement earrings with that dress, but not necessary if it’s not your style.

That's where my mind is atm.

Do you know if they have a bag check? --I Jeff ing know that can't be the correct Titz vernacular

I could buy the veja anyway and use those for walking off the calories afterwards?

GreyGoose1980 · 13/05/2021 20:26

I think it will look really good OP.
It’s a dress for the afternoon rather than evening so perfect for afternoon tea. I’d personally wear it with gold bangles and a plain gold necklace. I’d also get a cropped cardigan in one of the colours of the dress to wear with it.

Ninkanink · 13/05/2021 20:26

That was going to be my next suggestion!👍 😊

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2021 20:28

There was a cloakroom there when I last went, pre-covid. There must still be one!

NaiceAftTea · 13/05/2021 20:30

Whoneedsama, thanks for silkfred suggestions.

I love the first, but I think the waist isn't right for me, and shirt dresses grape badly on my body Sad

Not so keen on the second one, sorry.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 13/05/2021 20:32

I think that is very suitable for Tea at the Titz!

You do want some pricey accessories, or one that look good so the fancy jewels are a good call

As far as sunnies go I don't think you can go far wrong with a pair of RayBans....maybe a five-oh birthday treat?? Either the classic geek style or the JackieOh style???

Or I think the giant Christian Dior types are making a huge comeback...gold, large large lenses, graduated tint. My top tip for sunnies is to never buy ones with nosepads if you like to wear them on your head! Nothing ruins the cool fifties starlet image like having to have your hair snipped out of the metal bridge of your sunglasses.

Ninkanink · 13/05/2021 20:34

I’d stick with the dress you’ve got. It’s a lovely dress.

Mandalay246 · 13/05/2021 20:35

It's lovely OP. Please take no notice of the "it's a bit casual" posters, wear the lovely dress and have a fabulous time.

Surroundedbytime · 13/05/2021 20:36

It took me ages to work out what the Titz was.

I did go there once and wore a shift dress but that was about 25 years ago so let me off.

I think that dress would be just right. It looks even nicer on the real person wearing it in the photo gallery.

vivavino · 13/05/2021 20:37

It's ideal, have a brilliant time and stick some trainers in your bag.

NaiceAftTea · 13/05/2021 20:38

Laurie - I love rayban aviators but I'm a sunnies as Alice band kinda girl, so nose pegs are very not possible.

I'll have a look at other choices. Definitely for a treat.

I've got a few Mulberries one size fits all. So should be okay for a handbag. But it'd be nice to get a new one to complement the dress, don't you all agree? Wink
