Wedding guest dress help!

August bank hol wedding. Posh place with new man Grin I'm aiming for girly rather than sexy as is his family wedding.

I'm size 4/6, petite, 5'2. Blonde, green eyes. I'm really slight, so can carry a small pattern, but nothing to frilly/puffed etc.

No idea where to start looking. Can you please help me. Everything looks either too bridesmaid, is too long for my height, or a bit over the top.

Thanks x

Hi, I've been following someone on insta who is launching a new petite fashion brand. Its called The Shortlist. She has a few designs coming out soon. Just thought I'd pass it on, its fascinating to see her start out.

Youdontknowwhatyoureonabout · 07/05/2021 18:19

What sort of budget?

atomicnotsoblonde · 07/05/2021 18:26

Budget up to £250
I'm 38, so don't want to look fresh, but mumsy.
I suit jewel colours/green/navy best

I'll take a look at insta..

Want to look fresh not mumsy!!

I quite like some of the wrap dresses on SilkFred. I've worn to a few weddings and they feel feminine but not too try-hard, which is good for a family wedding.

TinToms · 07/05/2021 18:28

Not very expensive though... you may want higher end!

This is great

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/05/2021 18:41

I am the same height and size 8 so I can empathise. There's often not much in the "petite" ranges, I make great use of our local alterations shop! Very often a change to the darts and the hem, shoulders etc is easily done and then things fit me perfectly.

I love this dress and would be fab with hot pink shoes & bag.

atomicnotsoblonde · 07/05/2021 18:53

I've not looked at closet before. They've done nice ones. I like the orange one linked, but I'd wear it to work. I wear lots of work dresses so want something a bit more 'special' but not bridesmaid.

Wants it all 😱

Good shout about alterations too!

when you say "posh place" - country hotel, swanky city break? Do you like floral/floaty things or fitted bold etc.

atomicnotsoblonde · 07/05/2021 19:08

Listed stately home and spa type place. Looks gorgeous

atomicnotsoblonde · 07/05/2021 19:11

I prefer fitted, it's my safe bet as I'm slight, but I like floaty dresses and want to move out of my contort zone. I need to have a dress that I wear, not wears me iyswim.

I've never worn coast (and this material looks well dodgy) but this is an example of my safe bet and the shape I usually wear

This is the sort of thing I fancy. But a) it's out of stock and b) I'm willing to spend more for better quality/something nicer

Have you looked at ghost? And Somerset at John Lewis?

Miseryisabutterfly · 07/05/2021 19:27

Would either of these work? I think they’d look gorgeous on a petite frame.

I've not tried ghost, no. I really struggle at JL. Everything is too big and I just get despondent and give up!

Love the gold dress and is a brand I've not heard of, so will investigate.

OP posts:
atomicnotsoblonde · 07/05/2021 19:37

Gold might be a bit much though. I'm a blend in not make huge statement person.

And obviously indecisive, self conscious and a flapper 🤣

Miseryisabutterfly · 07/05/2021 19:40

😂 it’s quite a subtle/muted gold to be fair.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/05/2021 19:44

What about something like this it's a petite sizing and the colour is fab. If you've got it you may as well flaunt it!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/05/2021 19:46

Oh that one's not in their petite range, sorry! Do you have any independent boutiques nearby? You might find something different in that sort of shop especially with your budget.

atomicnotsoblonde · 07/05/2021 19:47

Oooh I like! Love the blue colour!!!

OP posts:
Jennyfromtheculdesac · 07/05/2021 19:48

Ghost will be way too long for you. I had to get a dress from there turned up and I’m 5ft7

Londoncatshed · 07/05/2021 19:49

What about Reiss. They do a size 4. Look at the outlet dresses on their site as well as the new stuff.
