What make-up skill are you *secretly* proud of

I posted this before but asked for it to be taken down because I was scared I’d be trolled.

Anyway, I’m secretly proud that I can still do a cat’s eye flick with liquid eye liner despite being in my mid 50’s. I’m lucky in that I don’t have ‘crepey’ eyelids or Crow’s feet - yet.

I often get (complimentary) comments particularly if I wear blue eyeliner.

Please note the title; the key words are ‘secretly proud of’ - I don’t go around wearing a T-Shirt proclaiming “Look into my eyes, look into my eyes - not around my eyes but into them”.

Do any other MN’ers have make-up skills they’re secretly proud of?

3-2-1

You’re back in the room Grin

I have no make up skills.

If I go make up, I go clown.

So I don’t.

MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 16:37

But @SheldonesqueTheBstard yours Television Critic skills are par excellence! [approaches Sheldonesque in stealth mode; twirling make-up brushes like a Dervish and with Concealer . . . umm . . . concealed].

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 06/05/2021 16:44

Ye cannae polish shite my dear!

Although you could if you whirled them brushes quick enough I suppose Grin

I can’t do catty eye flicks. So am in awe.

One because I’m hopeless and two it might accentuate my lazy eye.

I can only dream of putting on blue eyeliner. Unless it was neon blue, most would think I’d been wapped in my sockets.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 06/05/2021 16:49

Are you watching glow up mrscattyeflickyeyes

I’m loving it Wink

Miseryisabutterfly · 06/05/2021 17:12

My only skill is being able to apply a full face of makeup in 10 minutes. With mediocre results.

MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 17:28

@Miseryisabutterfly still a skill! Just use a pink / red coloured Sharpie to draw on a Kim Kardashian style pout on your Mask and you’re sorted for Work / Shopping / freezing tits off a pre-booked outdoor table at Pub!

I didn't learn to drive until I was in my early 30s. I can do liquid eyeliner while sitting on a moving bus.

TracyHorrobin · 06/05/2021 17:34

Can perfectly tightline my green eyes with a very dark green gel pen. Looks very good (IIDSSM)

Deathraystare · 06/05/2021 17:36

None! No skill whatever! I can't do any fancyness with eyeliner. I have poor eyesight. I have watched u tube, looked in books and tried to copy but if you were to let your 4 year old child loose with a pen and they drew all over my face, it would look better!

I apparently got my brows right once and got complimented - now that is rare indeed!!!

Spodge · 06/05/2021 17:45

I can apply lipstick without using a mirror.

MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 17:46

Ooh no @SheldonesqueTheBstard - not heard of it . . . How come the Ixperts haven’t heard of me and my perfectly applied winged eyeliner? That makes me effing annoyed. I’m off to slick on that electric blue Fenty bastard that stings like hell and is almost neon - I can be seen in the dark - and people have run screaming when two perfectly formed disembodied blue flicks materialise out of the dusk.

OP posts:
Spodge · 06/05/2021 17:46

@Spodge

I can apply lipstick without using a mirror.
Meant to add that I am not proud of this, secretly or otherwise. But it's the only make-up skill I could claim to have.
MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 17:49

@Spodge well jealous - nope, can’t do lipstick like that. Does anyone else’s lipstick take on shape of lip? By that I mean wears down one side only?

OP posts:
MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 17:51

@TracyHorrobin I thought I was well hard with the occasional use of Fenty liquid eyeliner but kudos to you re gel pen! Do you use coloured Sharpies too?

OP posts:
MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 17:54

@SephrinaX I’m glad you learnt to apply liquid eyeliner on a bus however, are you inferring you can do now whilst driving a car?!

ItsNotMeOfficer · 06/05/2021 18:15

I hear you OP, I've worn a winged eye since I was a teen and I'm now 40.

Had to make some adjustments along the way, currently using Katie Jane Hughes "bat wing" technique.

But my super power is I can do wings one-handed Grin

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 06/05/2021 18:24

I can do liquid eyeliner stood up on the tube.

Lookingoutside · 06/05/2021 18:49

I’m very good at tight lining and red lipstick. Looks amazing actually ☺️

FindingMeno · 06/05/2021 18:54

I appear to be rather good at turning my overplucked eyebrows into something a bit more substantial while still looking natural.

UserZ · 06/05/2021 19:04

I can spend the best part of an hour putting on a face full of makeup and end up looking worse than I started. Is that the sort of thing you mean?

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 06/05/2021 19:19

@FindingMeno please could you share how? I really struggle with my brows but I really don't fancy doing anything drastic like microblading!

I've been wearing liquid liner for 30 years and I still sometimes look like I've been punched in one eye. Although, after trying a few pens and not getting along with them, I now have the Ciate liner pen and it's really good, doesn't irritate my eyes and make the liner go everywhere!

FindingMeno · 06/05/2021 19:31

@cupidsabsolutepsyche you need to find the right colour eyebrow pencil and keep it sharp. Get one with a little brush on it. The trick is tiny strokes like your hairs would grow, and using a very very light touch. Then brush through very gently.

SelkieFly · 06/05/2021 19:33

I wish I could do winged eyeliner. I always make a mess of it.

Any tips?

AnaViaSalamanca · 06/05/2021 19:41

I paint my nails bettrr that the manicurist

tobee · 06/05/2021 19:42

Does buying it count?
