What make-up skill are you *secretly* proud of

I posted this before but asked for it to be taken down because I was scared I’d be trolled.

Anyway, I’m secretly proud that I can still do a cat’s eye flick with liquid eye liner despite being in my mid 50’s. I’m lucky in that I don’t have ‘crepey’ eyelids or Crow’s feet - yet.

I often get (complimentary) comments particularly if I wear blue eyeliner.

Please note the title; the key words are ‘secretly proud of’ - I don’t go around wearing a T-Shirt proclaiming “Look into my eyes, look into my eyes - not around my eyes but into them”.

Do any other MN’ers have make-up skills they’re secretly proud of?
@SephrinaX I’m glad you learnt to apply liquid eyeliner on a bus however, are you inferring you can do now whilst driving a car?!
Haha, I'll need to give it a go!

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 06/05/2021 20:01

@FindingMeno thank you! That explains it, I don't really bother to sharpen my pencil until i can't get anything from it Blush now I know why my brows look suspect..

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 06/05/2021 20:19

I can apply mascara without opening my mouth! But all my talent lies there, zilch else. So not really useful!

cancancan · 06/05/2021 20:44

@UserZ I came on to say the exact same thing! 🤣🤣

Gilead · 06/05/2021 20:51

I’ve had alopecia since I was 14. I’m in my sixties now. I can do perfect eyebrows.

It's a skill Grin

Twenty2 · 06/05/2021 20:54

I'm exactly the same, btw.

Geordieoldgirl · 06/05/2021 21:18

I use a very soft pencil (more Bs the better) for very natural-looking eyebrow enhancement. I read that Liz Taylor used to do this and thought I’d give it a try. It gives better results than any cosmetic I’ve tried.

Craftycorvid · 06/05/2021 21:38

I salute your way with flicked up eyeliner, OP. I could never master that look.

I can apply the reddest of red lipstick perfectly without a mirror. I am also very good at doing a well blended smoky eyeshadow look - had about 35 years of practice, mind you, so I should be ok at it by now! Grin

getyourfreakon · 06/05/2021 21:40

I can draw on almost symmetrical eyebrows with liquid eyeliner. I have no natural eyebrows.

MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 22:34

You’re all amazing with your skills!
@getyourfreakon - eyebrows should be sisters - not identical twins (nods sagely).

I had massive (money making) idea on how we could identify each other make-up geniuses in real life; I’d flog you all a mini lipstick/locket to be hung from a genuine pseudo silver chain. However, mock ups reminded me of of when recently deceased BastardCat was a teeny Kitten and very advanced for his age. Vet refused to neuter him because he was too small; until we provided evidence of him shagging blankie, achieving a happy ending and collapsing afterwards - Kitten, not vet.

Bastardcat 🥲. Shaggyblankie. Smiling through tears (truvy’s favourite emotion and mine - hope you are managing to look back and smile a little x)

Just got a vision of you with red rimmed streaming neon eyes now though.

And perhaps a grimace instead of a smile.

And more about Fenty than bastardcat.

You will lurve Glow Up me darling - promise Wink

Eightmagpies · 06/05/2021 22:41

Best advice for drawing eyebrows: sisters not twins 😆

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 06/05/2021 22:42

I have second cousins - four times removed.

Bit hairy and there best describes them.

getyourfreakon · 06/05/2021 22:43

That's exactly why almost symmetrical Wink one is higher than the other. One sister has a piercing. The other doesn't Grin

hollieberrie · 06/05/2021 22:45

I've learnt to somewhat disguise my 11s with a bit of higlighter pencil. Makes me feel less scowly Grin

MrsCatE · 06/05/2021 22:47

Sorry, meant teeny lipstick reminded me of . . .

Did anyone else do mad make up in the 80’s? I was a London Club regular - eye makeup would involve multiple eyeshadows with mid lid highlighted plus eyelid crease emphasised. This was often accompanied with coloured Mascara and pink / purple eyebrows (temporary - not dyed!).

I had the PVC dress too . . . and was too scared to take my coat off!

Peter Kay and Ruth and Eamonn and a slightly larger lipstick is one of my favourite telly moments.

But I’m 50 odd going on 12 Grin

JaneJeffer · 06/05/2021 23:00

I can't do eyeliner at all because I have weird fat eyelids.

SpringLoadedJizz · 06/05/2021 23:19

I can always get one eye ok with eyeliner and then never get the other to match because my hands will shake. It's a different eye each time too.

I am very right-handed which I think is part of it but I do have the skill of being able to control each hand perfectly when I'm applying mascara (I find it easier to use my left hand for my left eye instead of moving my right hand over) and I don't even have to open my mouth in that O shape to get it on perfectly. Grin

Prettybubblesintheair · 07/05/2021 09:10

I’m very good at winged eyeliner but can only do it sitting down.

I’m intrigued by tight lining, do you still do normal eyeliner on the lid?

frugalkitty · 07/05/2021 09:21

My make up skill is being able to scan DDs bedroom from the doorway and spot all the items that should be in my room Grin

BlackAlys · 07/05/2021 09:27

@TracyHorrobin

Can perfectly tightline my green eyes with a very dark green gel pen. Looks very good (IIDSSM)
Intriguing!! Can we see a one-eyed pic??!
QueenPaw · 07/05/2021 10:12

I tightline too! Mine is eyeshadow, I just love doing it and blending

AustinAggro · 07/05/2021 10:22

I can do eyeliner on my lids really well.
Ancient too....
