What make-up skill are you *secretly* proud of

I posted this before but asked for it to be taken down because I was scared I’d be trolled.

Anyway, I’m secretly proud that I can still do a cat’s eye flick with liquid eye liner despite being in my mid 50’s. I’m lucky in that I don’t have ‘crepey’ eyelids or Crow’s feet - yet.

I often get (complimentary) comments particularly if I wear blue eyeliner.

Please note the title; the key words are ‘secretly proud of’ - I don’t go around wearing a T-Shirt proclaiming “Look into my eyes, look into my eyes - not around my eyes but into them”.

Do any other MN’ers have make-up skills they’re secretly proud of?

I can do really natural make up, so natural I don't look any different to when I don't have any on, so I usually don't bother.

@QueenPaw

I tightline too! Mine is eyeshadow, I just love doing it and blending
Is tight line when you draw a line really close to the lash edge on your upper lids?
QueenPaw · 07/05/2021 13:56

@BlackAlys there's two types
Wiggling a pencil in the root of the lashes, and also lining your upper waterline

MrsCatE · 07/05/2021 15:21

Genius @goose1964! When I go all out I do a tightline too.

Two people complimented me on my eyeliner today - but that’s usual [preens and sunglasses arms snap off under pressure of rapidly expanding head].

How do you tight line without poking yourself in the eyeball?

QueenPaw · 07/05/2021 18:40

@JaneJeffer slowly Grin I can do it in seconds now but rest your elbow on a table and just go slow

JaneJeffer · 07/05/2021 18:55

I will try again, slowly this time!

MrsCatE · 07/05/2021 19:12

Other advice I can give due to the benefit of my great age is if you do eff up eyeliner, use said eyeliner to make a massive beauty spot to distract or draw on massive moustache.

Obviously, I’ve never had to do either because of my perfect eyeliner technique plus have homegrown magnificent moustache already; I just twirl ends up to redirect eye to perfectly applied eyeliner. Or I could before these Damn masks!!

I can put lipstick on by wedging it between my tits Grin

YourCakesAreShit · 07/05/2021 19:33

@Miseryisabutterfly

My only skill is being able to apply a full face of makeup in 10 minutes. With mediocre results.
I quote you because I am you.
MrsCatE · 07/05/2021 19:36

Efffing hell @elQuintoConyo you win!

[hastily retreats before getting recently inflated head squashed between Quinto’s tits]

I can wear DW and look like I'm not wearing any foundation.

I too can also get a perfect tight line with an angled brush and eyeshadow.

TiptopJ · 07/05/2021 23:08

My skill is that I can spend 40 minutes following a YouTube tutorial and my makeup still turns out exactly the same as when it takes me 5 minutes in the morning.

PandaLady · 08/05/2021 18:47

The older I get the more I love (and need) make up.

I am quite skilled at the eye liner flick but I think I am a bit genius in applying layers of tinted moisturiser, cream concealer, another cream eye shadow and highlighter to make my skin look less like an old boot.

My nemesis is a smokey eye - impossible!
