How many bottles of perfume do you own?

I've just been sorting mine out and it's rather a lot. 78 bottles. I will say (in my poor defence!) that my job means I'm sent quite a bit and well, I've clearly bought quite a lot over the years. There's vintage bottles in there too and discontinued perfumes and remarkably - none have gone off

How about you?

Many, many more than a thousand. Maybe many, many more than two thousand. I haven't counted them. Perfume is my passion and I have been buying it since I was a teen. I also used to get sent bottles by a few perfume houses.

I wear almost everything I own - I am not a 'collector' I am a perfume lover - although obviously in any given year I don't get round to wearing most of them!

The oldest that I can definitely date is from 1946 (Chanel 46, made to celebrate the end of WWII) and the newest is an Abaco perfume I bought yesterday in TKMaxx.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/05/2021 15:04

I love perfume, too.

PullUp · 06/05/2021 15:48
@TatteredHare i have everything from chanel to montale, mancera, alexander mqueen, sarah jessica parker, queen latifah, yardley, ghost bascically if i think its nice its in my collection!! i dont judge by price, i take each scent as it is and how it smells to me, im not swayed by soemthing being better just because its expensive or it being crap because its cheap, for example the queen latifah is fabulous and cost me £12 on ebay but its a really rich and thick gourmand comparable to some of the more expensive scents i have Smile
I love my Queen by Queen Latifah and Queen of Hearts. Such good quality fragrances! Shame they were discontinued.

LopsidedWombat · 06/05/2021 16:04

I have four full size bottles and use them all. If I weren't being careful with money then I would definitely like to have more, maybe seven or eight. I find I am drawn to different fragrances depending on my mood or the weather!

QueenPaw · 06/05/2021 17:02

@Haffiana wow! I would love to see your collection
That's like the dream Grin

Arrowheart · 06/05/2021 17:07

One and it's one I don't like any more. It's Hugo Deep Red and I hate it now. Not getting a new one until this one is finished so I'm never getting a new one Smile

bravotango · 06/05/2021 17:11

2 - I always have Be Delicious as my everyday, and then I get a special occasion one, one at a time (currently it's Chanel Coco)

KeyboardWorriers · 06/05/2021 17:12

One.

I am contemplating buying another one as a treat for my birthday and thought that it might be too extravagant a purchase till I read this thread Grin
I do get a lot of samples so whatever I buy I know I will love.

I am just not very good at spending money on myself. Family activities etc we spend lots on. But I find it hard to allow myself to get a treat.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/05/2021 17:15

Mine all live in a deep drawer and they've never gone off. I've still got YSL Paris from 2003.

Lookdeepintotheparka · 06/05/2021 17:24

I adore perfume and am so jealous of some of your collections! I tend to buy lots of perfume and then sell on if I don't regularly wear it.

I have probably about 20 bottles at the moment. Lots of PP dupes though - wish I could afford the real versions!

twoponytails · 06/05/2021 17:29

I have 3 at the moment. I used to have about 20 and gave them away half or 1/3 used to my mum, sister and a couple of friends who wanted them. I now only have 3. I have one Chanel, one Lancôme and Gucci which I use. Eventually I will only have one as I no longer use perfumes as much.

Where's a good place to buy used perfume and know you're not being swizzed?

I've got some REALLY good dupes. The real ones tend to be gifts.

NeedATan · 06/05/2021 17:45

About 40 - some are 30 years old and haven't gone off. I think that if you store your perfumes away from heat and direct sunlight, they don't really go off.

Spied · 06/05/2021 17:59

10
TM Aura
TM Angel
TM Angel Nova
Dior Rose n Roses
Dior Dune
Eccentric Molecule 01
Nina Ricci Nina
Ysl Libre
Armani My Way
Superdrug Lime basil and mandarin (JM dupe)

Lookdeepintotheparka · 06/05/2021 20:11

@osbertthesyrianhamster that's a good question as I have been buying and selling used perfume on eBay until recently. However, I'm going to stop using eBay because they've changed the payment system and as a seller I'm also really fed up chasing non payers!

Would love to know if there's another site that's good for buying and selling used perfume!

Fferny1 · 06/05/2021 20:17

Fragrance sale/swap/split UK is a good Facebook site for selling I think.

Lookdeepintotheparka · 06/05/2021 20:20

Thanks @Fferny1 will investigate!

Sooverthemill · 06/05/2021 20:32
 1. And I never wear it!
LifeAfterBreastCancer · 06/05/2021 20:54

I have a few:

Jo Malone Fig and Lotus Flower
Jo Malone Poppy and Barley
Chanel No 5
Chanel No 19
Beauty Pie Lime one
Zara / Jo Malone x 3
Agent Provocateur
Estee Lauder Youth Dew
And a few other random ones I can't remember

AdaFuckingShelby · 06/05/2021 20:56

None. I can't stand perfume, I wish I liked it but I just don't. Don't be ashamed, if its your thing it's your thing.

LifeAfterBreastCancer · 06/05/2021 21:01

@OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack @Haffiana I'd love a good rummage through your collections! Amazing.
I do love perfume. It's so evocative. I could tell the story of my life so far by the perfumes I have worn.

DenisetheMenace · 06/05/2021 21:03

1, I don’t use it though.
I would use Shalimar, which is my favourite, but we never go anywhere swanky enough for it.

SionnachRua · 06/05/2021 21:06

Armani Si
Flora by Gucci
Fleur L' Himalayas from Rituals
Valentino Donna
Oud (no label, just an oud)
Some massive bottle of vanilla Zara perfume

Not a huge number but I don't think I'd cope with any more Grin I feel enough guilt for not rotating through these quick enough as it is!

Pomplemousses · 06/05/2021 21:09

Mine are Rive Gauche X 2 (as people keep buying it for me) and Coco by Chanel. I honestly wouldn't choose either of these myself tbh! But they're nice enough.

NellMangled · 06/05/2021 21:13

198 bottles, probably 100 odd samples & decants.it’s the main thing I spend my ‘fun’ money on other than books.

That’s probably half of what I had a year ago, when I started selling off my collection in a bid to try to streamline it a bit and have something more manageable to work with. I’m still working on reducing it.

But love perfume. I mean, LOVE. It’s a hobby, a passion, it lifts my mood and I only ever go a day not wearing it if I’m properly ill.

Currently wearing MFK Feminin Pluriel which is a beautiful, clean, dreamy Iris-violet-rose fragrance. So soothing. Always wear perfume to bed. I think my friends and family think I’m quite strange in my love for beautiful smells, but I don’t care! Grin
