Is this too white for a wedding guest?

After seeing discussion on this on another thread I'm worried this dress I've bought is now too 'white'- I thought the floral pattern made it ok, but maybe not... What do you think?

@HeadNorth

I think the sainted Kate Middleton wore cream for M&H's wedding - maybe that is where all the problems started Grin
Grin

probably in retaliation against the wedding held before she had a chance to lose the baby weight 😂

even if Kate with baby weight is a lot slimmer than most size 14 Uk women on their good hair day

Tbf though that was a dress coat thing when it was known that the bride would be wearing a long white or cream gown.

Think it might have been pale yellow?

weegiepower · 08/05/2021 09:09

I think it's fine! Not too bridal at all

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 08/05/2021 10:11

You could always stuff this t-shirt from Redbubble into your handbag and slip it on over the dress quickly in an emergency situation such as the vicar trying to marry you off to the groom.

Seems like it's fine to wear cream, pale yellow or dresses with white bits as a wedding guest according to HRH!

Yeah, that Kate Middleton -well known to get her manners from Hobbs Grin

Seriously 'if you get your manners from Hobbs then good luck to you' - must rank as one of the most bracingly snobby wee put downs I've seen on Mumsnet - and I've seen a few.

midsomermurderess · 08/05/2021 10:20

'If you get your manners from Hobbs'? What a comically snotty remark. I think it is a lovely, pretty summery frock, it bears no resemblance to a wedding dress I have ever seen.
Some posters here make me think of Michael Palin's wife (Maggie Smith) in A Private Function. 1950s strangulated vowels, a dread of the neighbours thinking you have made a faux pas.

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 08/05/2021 10:23

I get my manners from H&M so no hope for me Grin

None of these shows a midi ivory floaty dress though...Confused

Might have been a clash at Camilla's wedding? Grin

@motherloaded

Personally I think this one not being floaty doesn't make much difference. It's an all cream outfit...at her sister in law's wedding!

I think if the OP had put that outfit up and asked for opinions, there woudld have been much spluttering of disapproval on this thread. Some brides wear cream dress coats to get married after all Wink

Oh sorry meant to post that on a new thread that is almost identical Grin

Tulipomania · 09/05/2021 08:58

I think it's lovely and I would definitely wear it to a wedding.

BluebellsGreenbells · 09/05/2021 09:20

Shop window - same sort of dress

inappropriateraspberry · 09/05/2021 09:29

Same sort of dress? The OP's is nothing like that - she's not planning to wear a ball gown FGS!

Notavegan · 09/05/2021 10:15

I don't even recall if any of my guests had a dress with a white background (They probably did)... because it doesn't matter. Its not a wedding dress. I hope you still enjoy your dress.

Divebar2021 · 10/05/2021 10:09

What are all the “no” comments based on? That it’s light coloured? I’m sure the OP is lovely but unless she accessories it with a bouquet, veil and tiara and gets little kids to throw rose petals around she will in no way be upstaging the bride. She will be sitting in the church / wherever before the bride even arrives. People need to get a grip.

motherloaded · 10/05/2021 10:55

What are all the “no” comments based on?

on the fact that it's an ivory floaty dress, far too close to a possible wedding dress in shape and colour. Contrary to posters who have never in their life seen a flowery wedding gown, flowers and floral design on a white/ivory background are not uncommon at all for wedding dresses.

Completely different design, but pretty sure even Grace Kelly was wearing a flowery wedding dress in one of her movies!

Even the reviews state it has been chosen as an actual wedding dress, and the OP doesn't know the bride?

You can choose pretty much anything else, why stick with ivory?

The bride will not be upstaged at all, 50% chance she won't even care or notice. The OP will look cringey and rather desperate though, so.. why?

randomsabreuse · 10/05/2021 11:08

For me no is on the grounds that I could see a certain type of bride wearing that dress or one just like it. Willowy flowing hair nymph type look and the flowers definitely fit that vibe.

The white background floral dresses I've seen that work as wedding guest dresses are generally shorter with a much brighter floral pattern than that one.

There's also something about the positioning/repeat of the pattern that feels in a similar vibe to the dress posted in the window.

ThatIsMyPotato · 10/05/2021 11:18

Someone wrote a review saying they'd bought it for their wedding.

Watch out for static OP

BluebellsGreenbells · 10/05/2021 13:01

My wedding dress looked similar except short sleeves. It then I eloped so it didn’t matter.

RebeccaOfSunnyHellFarm · 10/05/2021 13:06

If you have to ask then you already know it's unsuitable.
