What's the best hand cream you've used?

My hands are like sandpaper and I've tried a few different creams now. Recommendations for what to buy next? Especially if it smells amazing too! Effectiveness is most important though obviously.

Please don't think that I am being flippant, but...'Battle's Udder Cream'. It is formulated for use on dairy cows when their teats become dry and cracked or sore, but it is brilliant on human skin too. Available at most agricultural merchants or online, comes in a 1 litre tub and smells very neutral. I swear by it! Does contain lanolin though, so, if you are allergic, obviously best avoided.

Jayneisagirlsname · 30/04/2021 22:00

Crabtree and Evelyn La Source works for me

pontiouspilates · 30/04/2021 22:00

Another vote for L'Occitane, I have tubes everywhere, it's lovely stuff

Geordieoldgirl · 30/04/2021 22:13

I really like Liz Earle hand cream (full title Orange flower hand repair). Smells lovely, sinks in right away, not greasy and does not irritate the skin even when it is sore and dry. Just a thought, but If your hands are very bad, it might be worth investing in some hand wash, too. Again I really rate the Liz Earle Orange flower one. The least stripping one I have ever tried. The products are expensive, but if you order from them direct they have regular promotions and I stock up then.

OnGoldenPond · 30/04/2021 22:20

@Orangesand , is that Lush hand cream Handy Gurugu?

Best and richest hand cream I have ever found and I have tried a lot of the other ones mentioned here. It just seems to seal the moisture in for ages while others leave my hands dry and flaky after about an hour.

itbemay1 · 30/04/2021 22:22

Jo malone is great but as it nursem I use both and they are both excellent

Squiz81 · 30/04/2021 22:22

@Hedgesfullofbirds I came on to say Battles udder cream too! I bought it as have eczema on my hands and it was recommended to help with that.

It’s thick but absorbs well and is really moisturising.

I also like Neals yard calendula cream but that works out a lot more expensive than the udder cream!

itbemay1 · 30/04/2021 22:26

@SpringtimeSummertime

Has anyone tried nursem. It’s really good! I use the cream but you can get a lotion too.
Yes! I love this and the whole ethos around the company! Brilliant cream
Hedgesfullofbirds · 30/04/2021 22:29

Thank you for the endorsement @Squiz81 - I am a professional gardener and my hands suffer terribly, especially in the winter and this is the only product I have found which really works for me

Luckingfovely · 30/04/2021 22:32

Another vote for O'Keefe's - just discovered it and it's a total game changer.

FreezerBird · 30/04/2021 22:35

O'Keefe's here too. Sorts my hands overnight if they get bad but a little a day prevents that really. Unscented but I prefer that.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 30/04/2021 22:36

Body Shope Hemp hand cream.

Dunairbeanat · 30/04/2021 22:40

Neutrogena is the best. My hands crack and bleed, it works immediately.

Regretsy · 30/04/2021 22:46

Burts bees almond cream

HopelesslyOptimistic · 30/04/2021 22:51

HEMP body shop, £12 used it for 20 years. My hands look & feel fabulous. Highly recommend.

AintPageantMaterial · 30/04/2021 23:09

Opposite ends of the price spectrum - I love Margaret Dabbs balm. It smells lovely and sinks in immediately. And I also love Mixa Cica Hand Balm which is much thicker and fragrance free. It takes a bit of rubbing in but the effects last.

doorornottodoor · 30/04/2021 23:10

Aesop resurrection- heaven in a tube ❤️

Inspirationpending · 30/04/2021 23:12

Nursem. Transformed my over washed hospital hands

Vinotinto78 · 30/04/2021 23:21

I’ve found that a weekly scrub with a teaspoon each of olive oil and sugar means that any old hand cream will do the trick. It’s cheap as chips and so effective on my rough mitts. Must remember to do it tomorrow...

Synthesiser · 30/04/2021 23:22

Aveeno is good

PinkArt · 01/05/2021 00:56

Lanolips rose hand cream is amazing. Sorts mine out when they're a mess and smells incredible. It's an overnight one for me though as it can leave hands sticky

DaenerysD · 01/05/2021 01:37

@Apileofballyhoo

Kiehl's Ultimate Strength hand salve for general, Burt's Bees in the flat tin for cracks and cuts. CeraVe moisturising lotion for excellent value.
This is my one and only after way too many duff purchases
Irishterrier · 01/05/2021 07:57

Dr Hauscka is the best. I didn't think Nursem was any good.

OverByYer · 01/05/2021 08:03

L’occitane Almond smells the best but nuetrogena probably works the hardest

Ilikecheeseontoast · 01/05/2021 08:12

Working hands cream is amazing!
