Would you wear navy and black together?

Would you wear black trousers and a navy top?
Or black bottoms and a chocolate brown top?
I have fixed ideas, and I wonder if I'm too rigid.

I would if I could pull it together with accessories.

HandInGlove85 · 26/04/2021 20:38

No (unless all my other clothes are dirty!)

NameChangedForAChange · 26/04/2021 20:40

No.

Drawingablank · 26/04/2021 20:41

Navy and black can be luxurious, done right. Black and dark brown sounds dowdy to me.

idontlikealdi · 26/04/2021 20:43

Black and navy can be chic. Black and brown no. Camel and black fine.

I also have very fixed ideas!

merryhouse · 26/04/2021 20:45

I'm not massively keen on navy anyway, but it seems a bit pointless to me.

Wouldn't it look as if you'd got dressed in the half-light and forgotten what they actually were?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 26/04/2021 20:47

No

FindingMeno · 26/04/2021 20:47

The different takes on this are so interesting. I was reading a book that put navy and chocolate brown into neutrals, then claimed any neutrals can be worn together.
I don't know what to believe any more!

Yes definitely, but the navy would have to be at the blue end of the spectrum, not a dark navy.

Brown and black no, but only because brown looks dowdy on me unless I pair it with warm colours.

PandoraP · 26/04/2021 20:48

I always wear black and navy. I also wear black and brown. I have no rules.

FindingMeno · 26/04/2021 20:50

I was thinking perhaps along those lines @user143677433 with the navy and black, so there's more contrast.

OP posts:
Bearnecessity · 26/04/2021 20:53

Yes I would both very cool combos imo..

NoSiree · 26/04/2021 20:54

I think it can look great! But I somehow end up making it look like I didn't do it deliberately...like maybe I got dressed in the dark and mistook my navy trousers for black or something.

I don't wear black anymore, but still wear a lot of navy, which I wear with grey, teal or mustard usually.

LemonRoses · 26/04/2021 21:00

My favourite jacket is a black and dark blue silk damask. It goes with so much and stops plain work clothes being too boring.

TableNiner · 26/04/2021 21:02

Black and navy is very chic. I think it’s one of the few colours that goes well with black, others can look a bit ‘liquorice allsort’. Brighter colours in particular can look a little 80s and also flatten the colour.

TillyTopper · 26/04/2021 21:07

No I wouldn't personally - I have seen black/navy worn together and it look amazing but you have to get the right navy and accessories and pull it off - too much work!

EmmaStone · 26/04/2021 21:07

Black and navy absolutely. Not brown, but that's because I don't wear it, so not on my radar as such.

Would you wear navy and black together?
WeWantAMackerelNotASprat · 26/04/2021 21:09

No because my mum always said not to! One of those things that has stuck with me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Scarby9 · 26/04/2021 21:09

Yes.
I once had a navy dress with black embroidery that was one of the nicest pieces of clothing I ever had.
I agree that the navy should be more towards French navy than really dark.

FindingMeno · 26/04/2021 21:10

@EmmaStone that picture is very helpful to look at.
I really like the navy skirt and black top put together on the right.

Miseryisabutterfly · 26/04/2021 21:13

Yep! Both combinations can look amazing. It depends on the shade and the fabric.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/04/2021 21:14

Yes. Wearing it right now in fact.

MoonlightMedicine · 26/04/2021 21:14

Yes. Without any hesitation.

ToManderleyAgain · 26/04/2021 21:15

If you use luxe fabrics (leather, cashmere, mohair, silk, beading) then I think navy and black can look especially chic.

JaninaDuszejko · 26/04/2021 21:25

Black and navy absolutely but you need to do it so it looks deliberate. Then it looks fabulous.
