Would you wear navy and black together?

Would you wear black trousers and a navy top?
Or black bottoms and a chocolate brown top?
I have fixed ideas, and I wonder if I'm too rigid.

I'm going to do some experimenting I think!

No because there's never any need, and it never looks right.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 26/04/2021 22:37

Nope, my Granny would turn in her grave.

littlebillie · 26/04/2021 23:09

I have a black and navy dress which I dress up with navy accessories

rarat · 26/04/2021 23:10

Yes I think it can look good together.

rarat · 26/04/2021 23:11

Navy is often more flattering than black & not wearing them together is quite an outdated view imo but the shade of navy is important.

Broadbeanssleeping · 26/04/2021 23:13

Yes for sure.

humansare · 26/04/2021 23:13

ew, navy and black together! I think it makes you look like you're colour blind, or you have glaucoma, or something. Or yeah, you got dressed in the dark. Black and brown yes, but not if the brown is so dark it looks black same reasons. I too, have fixed ideas, and for me, one neutral per outfit is enough neutrals.

felineflutter · 26/04/2021 23:14

Yes I always wear black jeans with a navy jumper or silk blouse.

BluebellsGreenbells · 26/04/2021 23:17

No, looks awful.

AnnieSnap · 27/04/2021 00:59

I wouldn’t personally, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t of course! I rarely wear black as the main colour. I do like navy as a main colour though. I think both look better lifted with a little white, yellow, red and, at a push, pink - maybe as an accessory.

Walkacrossthesand · 27/04/2021 01:20

I'm remembering the times I rushed out of the door, running late, then realised I had black tights with navy shoes (or vice versa). Never deliberate, and never OK!

DramaAlpaca · 27/04/2021 01:24

Black and navy, yes - as long as it's the right shade of navy ie not too dark. French navy, perfect.

Black and chocolate brown, absolutely not. Just horrid.

Luckyelephant1 · 27/04/2021 01:25

Yes to black and navy but only certain things. Also if the shade of navy is too close to black it looks awful.

No to chocolate brown and black but yes to tan/camel colours with black.

MamboVipi · 27/04/2021 01:26

Navy and dark taupe is better.

BlueDahlia69 · 27/04/2021 01:33

No

SaturdayRocks · 27/04/2021 03:07

Plain black and plain navy, probably not - although I do like that skirt and top combo on the right of that pic, too. Though that may be because her midriff is breaking it up, which sadly I couldn’t get away with.

But I do have a predominantly dark blue patterned chiffon shirt that I wear with black trousers and blue shoes. If I say so myself, it looks good.

DarkMutterings · 27/04/2021 03:18

So quick look on Pinterest for black and brown... it's okay for but in reality I'd probably be swapping the black jeans for blue, and it looks better when broken up with white IMO and better if the brown is more tan or chestnut

The people who say no, what shoes do you wear with navy?

If I wear a navy dress my heels are nude/ blush etc- if I wear blue with jeans then my trainers are white/ navy etc I never wear smart navy trousers but if I did I’d wear a nude type of ballet flat.
FindingMeno · 27/04/2021 07:30

Right, I'm taking the plunge today. Wearing French navy and black and I'll see if I can pull it off! I have a French navy top I've been itching to wear but with the shops closed have only had black to wear with it.
I had settled that navy and black was more contentious than brown and black but that doesn't seem to be the popular opinion.
Thanks everyone!

All my shoes are brown, burgundy or navy.

I love black and navy together though. I just couldn't make it work on me. I also don't really suit black, as I'm very pale and warm toned.

Miseryisabutterfly · 27/04/2021 09:22

I actually think brown and navy together (or brown with denim) looks terrible. I’d much rather either of them with black.

Fferny1 · 27/04/2021 09:32

I wear Brown and Navy together and it looks great. But it's a Mustardy Brown soft large cashmere scarf. Brown suede jackets look great with denim jeans and it's a pretty classic look. As do soft brown/tan loafers with jeans. Maybe it's heavily influenced by textures.

Black and blue are fine together. Black tights look best with navy shoes & skirts. I thought no one wears navy tights anymore.
ElderMillennial · 27/04/2021 09:34

I think it depends on the outfit / items

Generally no I wouldn't wear navy and black together

Brown and black doesn't sound very nice but then tan and camel and black is fine
