What do you wear on your feet in summer?

Laggartha · 18/04/2021 21:36

My feet are nearly always cold, so I only wear sandals in the garden or on short excursions, and only in very hot weather.

What can I wear when it’s not boots weather? I need something to go with jeans and wide-legged trousers.

My feet are freezing today, I've sat out in the garden sunbathing in a dress and socks Blush

I really am loathe to squeeze my toes in to some of these trainers or sandshoes or whatever. I am too menopausal and cover too many miles to suffer pain for fashion nowadays.

Flip flops all summer. Or plimsolls for when flip flops aren’t appropriate. Sandals if I’m trying to look slightly smarter than when in flip flops.

doubleshotespresso · 19/04/2021 13:55

Ballet flats- occasionally converse style trainers but they're not really me.
Recently got some Joules hi-top trainers which I think will be great for summer.
I detest wearing sandals do these are my alternatives to boots

BusterGonad · 19/04/2021 14:22

I live in a really hot climate and I wear trainers everyday, anything from Newbalance to a converse, I loathe flip flops. When I'm aiming to be a bit more dressy I wear block heel suede sandals or something similar. Ankle boots are my no1 though but I only have suede and they'd be ruined within 5 minutes.

Laggartha · 19/04/2021 16:01

A lot of people are talking about trainers, but I can’t get used to wearing them other than for exercise Grin

Pumps (the British meaning, not the American meaning).
Has to be oer 25C for sandals.

Apileofballyhoo · 23/04/2021 20:14

Rocket Dog Jazzins are supposed to be barefoot friendly, OP. I think they have recently changed the insole to a more padded one but it's possible to remove it.

I had a pair of leather vivo slip on things that were fine for warmer weather. Groundies do a nice enough looking trainer, I think it's called universe. Camper Peu do a few but I find them both narrow and shallow. And make sure they are foot shaped, they have a Peu something that is more like a trainer and has a rounded toe but it should be obvious from the photo.

I am reluctant to buy from Amazon but if you do a search for Barefoot shoes there you'll see some very reasonably priced trainers and canvas type shoes. I've forgotten the brand name. There might be more than one brand. DS now has adult size feet and growing rapidly so forking out adult prices for vivo that he'll grow out of in a few months made me look for cheaper options!

I've been wearing camper peu low ankle boots since the weather got milder. My feet also get cold.

I've got a feeling Xero shoes might do Mary Jane type things - check happylittlesoles.UK for those. There are probably a few other options there you might like. If your feet are small be sure to check the kids options, they go up to size 6/6.5. you can filter by size.

I wear Rieker walking sandals all summer, in a stone colour. Go with everything, and make my feet look quite shapely, with a pedicure and nice nails. Good with jeans and with shorts, and not bad with casual dresses. I would not not get papped for Vogue, however.

SpeckledyHen · 24/04/2021 07:49

Superga . I’m well past the first flush of youth and they get my sons’ approval .

Chica1990 · 24/04/2021 08:34

Espadrilles?

MoltonSilver · 24/04/2021 08:42

I used to have freezing feet. It turned out to be related to low iron. Maybe there's a reason that your feet are so cold.

Standrewsschool · 24/04/2021 09:14

shoes

I’m a big fan of these. Also come in plain colours.

shoe 2

Have a pair of these also which I wear with dresses

Both really comfy (showing old age) as well.

Standrewsschool · 24/04/2021 09:15

Just read that ballet flats are back in. Typical! Just bought some more loafers for work.

Scarby9 · 24/04/2021 09:35

Woo hoo to me being back in fashion!
Not that I care, to be fair, but it is quite funny how things go in and out of vogue - according to whose rules?

PollyThePony · 24/04/2021 09:41

I was just saying to a friend the other day how I'm veering away from chunky shoes again at the moment. It's been chunky shoes and boots everywhere for a while now, but I'm quite liking ballet flats and slightly less chunky boots now. I don't really get rid of good shoes though. I store them away in my loft, as I find they do come in and out of fashion. I keep out about 4, sometimes 5 pairs out for the year and then reassess.

FreekStar · 24/04/2021 09:48

It rains in summer so sandals can't be worn all the time. For casual wear I would go with trainers but if I wanted to be smarter and also for work I wear a slip on shoe that I can wear with bare feet. They go with both skirts and trousers. I have either some pointed toe flats or a lightweight loafer. Hobbs, Boden and Jigsaw have really good options.

Fanceeepant · 24/04/2021 09:49

Birkenstock's this pair second year of having them would def buy again.

FreekStar · 24/04/2021 09:50

Gosh 5 pairs! ? I don't think I could match all outfits and occasions on just 5 pairs! I need to clear out as I've just had to rearrange my shoe cupboard and counted 70 pairs!

PollyThePony · 24/04/2021 09:55

Haha! I think I've probably got 15-20 pairs altogether, but 4-5 for the year.

My wardrobe today, including what I'm wearing and nothing in the wash, has 17 items in it too! But I'm mainly a SAHM, with a little WFH, so I don't need office wear anymore. I do have one suit just in case though. Also, it was a deliberate decision because I don't have a lot of wardrobe space, to manage with as little as possible. I love it actually, but it was a choice really not to keep too much stuff around.

PollyThePony · 24/04/2021 10:00

The shoes I have out at the moment are:

Ballet flats
Running / hiking shoes
Flip flops
Knee boots
Ankle boots

I'm also tall and can't walk in high heels, so having high heels for certain outfits isn't something I ever have to think about tbh.

UniBallEye · 24/04/2021 14:11

I'm planning to wear:
White / gold / pink OPP trainers
simple tan leather sandals, I'm looking at some on the Sezane website
silver birkenstocks
navy New Balance trainers
pale grey and sky blue New Balance trainers

Zinnia · 24/04/2021 14:14

Ballet pumps are 100% back - Angelina wearing them on the cover of Vogue is proof of that! I have a couple of pairs of the high vamp M&S ones they do every year and shall be digging those out this weekend.

Gwenhwyfar · 24/04/2021 14:16

I don't think ballet type shoes are good for your feet as they're totally flat.
When I said pumps I meant the old PE shoes with a bit of support.

Londonmummy66 · 24/04/2021 14:17

Vivo Barefoot do lowtops and loafers. If you don't fancy lowtops then try the loafers.

ghostsliveinmyhouse · 24/04/2021 14:23

Summer is a nightmare foot wise tbh.

Trainers don't look good with summer clothes, and make my feel look huge. Sandals can be uncomfortable and I have weird toes.

I wish I could wear boots all year round but it would be a bit too warm.
