What do you wear on your feet in summer?

Laggartha · 18/04/2021 21:36

My feet are nearly always cold, so I only wear sandals in the garden or on short excursions, and only in very hot weather.

What can I wear when it’s not boots weather? I need something to go with jeans and wide-legged trousers.

@Gwenhwyfar

I don't think ballet type shoes are good for your feet as they're totally flat. When I said pumps I meant the old PE shoes with a bit of support.
Mine are called Allbirds Treebreezers and I do find they have decent arch support. I wouldn't wear them hiking or anything, but they're fine for school run, grocery shopping on foot etc.

I find Spring the hardest footwear season. Love boots in winter and sandals in summer...but this in between, sunny but cold weather is hard to dress for.

I also wear Converse (have a couple of different styles), which I find comfy, but some people find them too hard and flat. I wear trainers now and then, but I’ve never been able to wear ballet flats, loafers or any slip-on shoes due to high arches and them just flying off my foot mid step (or causing awful blisters).

It’s a minefield! I’ll be in sandals as soon as the weather gets close to 20 degrees.

But back to you, OP. What about a brogue style or more sturdy loafer?

Just googled and they cost over 100€!

I love real leather soft ballet pumps. So nice.

Yes, they're expensive, but they're machine washable and pretty durable, so I think price per wear is pretty good Smile. They last years! And since I only wear a few pairs of shoes, I need to get the ones which will take a lot of wear, before they are too worn out.

Open strappy sandals in different styles, usually flat but may have a wedge. From now until September. Anything more and I will boil as I have a condition that causes extreme heat sensitivity. The thought of wearing socks, trainers or similar through the summer makes me feel hot already.

Gwenhwyfar · 24/04/2021 14:58

I couldn't wear things with nothing at the back - they'd keep coming off.

Bbq1 · 24/04/2021 15:01

@FreekStar

Gosh 5 pairs! ? I don't think I could match all outfits and occasions on just 5 pairs! I need to clear out as I've just had to rearrange my shoe cupboard and counted 70 pairs!
Me too. Do think I need a bit of a sort out though!
Bbq1 · 24/04/2021 15:04

People wearing ballet flats etc is that minus socks? If so, do you not get that really unpleasant sweaty feeling ?

PollyThePony · 24/04/2021 15:11

The ones I mentioned are pretty good without socks actually. Them being washable helps too if they need a refresh!

Gwenhwyfar · 24/04/2021 15:22

You can use pop socks I suppose. Those tiny foot covering things always come off ime.

Sooverthemill · 24/04/2021 15:24

I wear sandals pretty much April to October but I have a few pairs of lighter weight summer trainers eg Veja that work with summer things and aren't too hot. Lots of people like converse which look nice, Hush have some good versions. But Birkenstock's and strapped flat leather sandals look good as far as I'm concerned. I have to wear things that stay in my feet and all these do!

Sooverthemill · 24/04/2021 15:27

@Laggartha

A lot of people are talking about trainers, but I can’t get used to wearing them other than for exercise Grin
Trainers is just a generic term these days. In the US they say sneakers which fits well. I never ever run anywhere in my very trendy trainers

That makes me want to cry. I'm still wearing winter slippers and thick socks.
schmalex · 24/04/2021 16:48

I love Sam Edelman Gigi sandals - they're the only ones that don't rub my feet, they look pretty and I can walk for ages in them. I have a few pairs in different colours.

Laggartha · 24/04/2021 21:39

I am looking up everyone's recommendations.

How many pairs of shoes?
Ankle boots, walking boots, wellies.
Sandals, flipflops for the poolside (ha!), plimsols.
Trainers for the gym, trainers for running in.
Mary Janes for funerals etc.

Most of the recommendations have too pointed a toe box. I used to love converse and endure bleeding toes from the nails cutting in to the flesh on adjacent toes, but I just can't do that any more.

I really like the style of the Jazzin low tops. Need to find somewhere to try them on really.

Joules flipadrilles www.joules.com/Women/All-Womens-Footwear/Cream-Multi-Stripe/Flipadrille/Lightweight-Summer-Shoe?id=206815%7CCRMMLTISTP

They’re really comfy as the sole is basically firm foam. Probably not trendy though..:

AC12theletterofthelaw · 24/04/2021 22:13

Skechers equivalent (and much better IMO) to Toms. They are called Bobs.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 24/04/2021 22:23

The rocket dogs are really comfy, I have a couple of pairs and they have a nicer toe fit than my converses. If you have a TOFS (the original factory shop) it can be well worth while going in as they have loads in there on occasion.

I usually go slightly big in both and then get a really good insole which greatly improves the comfort of the converses for sure.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 24/04/2021 22:36

Orthopaedic flip flops, I don't get on with very flat shoes.
