Where do you buy summer dresses?

I want to buy some nice summery dresses but everywhere I used to shop are no longer my style due to age. I used to like Dorothy Perkins, New Look etc, yet when I look to Monsoon and similar I find those dresses would not suit me either.

Looking for inspiration, thanks in advance

I buy mine from River Island online usually, they have some pretty midi dresses which actually look more like maxi dresses on me but nevermind.

RovenderKitt · 18/04/2021 17:42

I just bought this and have been receiving compliments - it is MUCH longer on me though! Otherwise would go to Boden probably.

H&M are worth a look. And also worth checking out M&S because they’ve got a huge range and something there might suit you (quality of the Ghost collab apparently disappointing though).
Joy also worth a look if you have one near you, or Collectif if you avoid their more “I’m mad, me!” prints.

Not primark!
Victoriana high collars with ruffles anyone?
See through viscose?

Every summer I buy myself a jersey dress from Crew clothing, I’ve got 4 of them now, I love them!
Just checked their website and weirdly they haven’t got them this year. But they have got some nice shirt dresses and tea dresses.

MissyB1 · 18/04/2021 17:49

Check out fat face as well, some nice dresses there at the moment.

CaveMum · 18/04/2021 17:52

Boden have got some lovely lightweight dresses at the moment, though some of the designs aren’t in particularly summery colours!

I bought these:

Fat face, Boden, joules, catch kidston and Seasalt are by far my favourites.

Seasalt is very underrated and I predict will be the next boden!

EmmaStone · 18/04/2021 19:00

Cos. Natural fabrics required for the summer!!

cheezy · 18/04/2021 19:00

Seasalt. I love Seasalt. Only via eBay though.

azizam · 18/04/2021 19:02

I love French Connection and Ted Baker for summery dresses

IpanemaChic · 18/04/2021 19:02

Boden, I like them because they are nipped in at the waist so flattering and not too short in length. I’ve had some for years so obviously they last well too.

Nanalisa60 · 18/04/2021 19:20

I love 1950’s style summer dresses, they are very flattering!! When I wear them I get so mean people saying how lovely they are, I get them from hearts and roses London online and hellbunny, they are good quality and a good price.

Moonface123 · 18/04/2021 19:44

Amazon, T k Max, fatface.

othgraph · 18/04/2021 22:11

I'm don't normally look at New Look but their dresses recently have been pretty decent. I did get the sleeper dress look-alike and it was good quality. I had tried the real thing and preferred the new look copy!
And Other Stories is where I tend to look first for dresses. Or some of those Scandi/Scandi-inspired brands like Second Female. John Lewis seems to have more range these days and collaborations that might be worth looking at. Kemi Telford has some nice dresses but at a higher price point but there's a launch with John Lewis happening this week or next week that might be worth a look.

bellabride · 18/04/2021 22:18

Not bought any yet, but I’ve been looking at Shein.

Cam2020 · 18/04/2021 22:22

Another vote for Ted Baker

skippy67 · 18/04/2021 22:22

M&S have some lovely ones this year.

Nobody's Child do really lovely summer dresses.

Standrewsschool · 19/04/2021 02:36

I like the Nobody’s Child dresses, and M and S.

StarlightLady · 19/04/2021 07:45

I love my dresses. Outside of the cold snap l tend to live in them.

I vary where l buy from in order to have a large mix of styles. Favourites include Oliver boJohn Lewis, Mint Velvet, Joe Browns, as well as the odd one from New Look (I’m early 40s, so need to be quite selective there) or even M&S if it is not patterned.

nopuppiesallowed · 27/04/2021 17:49

I would buy dresses from Tubby Bear Inc before buying one from any company selling ones made in China! The way Uighurs are allegedly treated in China is atrocious. I refuse to prop up their economy. One appalled woman isn't going to change things for the Uighurs but perhaps lots of us standing together might help. Please. Before you buy anything made in China, read about forced sterilisation of Uighur women. Then decide if you really want that dress!

Etherealhedgehog · 27/04/2021 18:19

Summer dresses often from Gap. For dresses in general, though smarter stuff in particular, I find I can't go wrong with Mango
