Where do you buy summer dresses?

I want to buy some nice summery dresses but everywhere I used to shop are no longer my style due to age. I used to like Dorothy Perkins, New Look etc, yet when I look to Monsoon and similar I find those dresses would not suit me either.

Looking for inspiration, thanks in advance

I got a couple of nice dresses from Oliver Bonas recently.

I can’t barely remember summer or dresses, but for an easy-to-chuck-on linen shift dress, try Next. They also do Boden and Sea Salt on there:

Never would have thought of looking there but love these!

What is their sizing like, do they run big?

TheBullfinch · 27/04/2021 19:20

Christ knows but if anyone spots any which aren't

Tiered
Frilled
Puff-sleeved
Batwing
Floral
Pin-tucked
Ditzy
Metallic
High necked
Polyester

Let me know.

@wantanotherdog

I would buy dresses from Tubby Bear Inc before buying one from any company selling ones made in China! The way Uighurs are allegedly treated in China is atrocious. I refuse to prop up their economy. One appalled woman isn't going to change things for the Uighurs but perhaps lots of us standing together might help. Please. Before you buy anything made in China, read about forced sterilisation of Uighur women. Then decide if you really want that dress!
It's so difficult though.

I recently bought a dress from a small company, based in England, via Wolf & Badger. Made a lot of the fact that they were British, small, family run, etc. etc.

Got the dress, looked at the label. 'Made in China.'

Another vote for Mountain Warehouse, their dresses just fit me so well I love them (pear shaped size 12/14).

Oasis , warehouse

Lady V London. Never buy full price! They have amazing and frequent sales and you can get their dresses for around £20. They have some beautiful prints. I have loads of dresses from there.

That is really terrible
Just watched Justine LeConte on u tube about H and M and Primark
It is eye opening

Happyhome21 · 27/04/2021 19:46

She is a fashion designer and explains what is opening in the industry and what we can do to stop it

Do you know your height and body shape? Everyone is giving examples of what suits them, but I know personal style is very subjective. You said the shops you used to buy from no longer suit you. But what styles are you attracted to? What look so you want to convey? We can all suggest examples and stores we shop from but they may not be what you're looking for at all.

Zara and Hand M have a good range. Also thought River Island and Next looked more wearable than they have for a long time

@InsanelyPregnantAndSore

Fat face, Boden, joules, catch kidston and Seasalt are by far my favourites.

Seasalt is very underrated and I predict will be the next boden!

I used to buy quite often from Boden in the 1990’s through to 2010’s loved their styling but stopped buying when they started including too many man-made fibres & became a wee bit too expensive for every day outfits.

Love Seasalt, they’ve been around since the 1980’s and still make their lovely clothes in natural fibres and with a wide selection of styles and sizes.🙂

Popsy Clothing have some nice dresses - I personally prefer the more plain ones than the prints.

All made in the UK.

Me too! There is actually nothing in the shops that would suit me at the moment... so watching this...
goose1964 · 27/04/2021 21:58

I bought one from Warehouse, blue t shirt with a belted waist and an interest back. I also bought two from Warehouse and a grey and white t shirt dress with a gathered a gathered waist from Primark, I bought it in black and white a couple of years ago and it's still going strong.

Pyewackect · 27/04/2021 21:58

M&S

Ninkanink · 27/04/2021 22:13

Whistles, Jigsaw, White Company, M&S (although don’t buy anymore as I’m boycotting, but I still use the ones I already had), Hush. Sometimes also supermarkets, especially Sainsbury’s.

HomicidalPsychoJungleCat · 27/04/2021 23:10

Abercrombie, free people, h and m occasionally, and anthropologie in the sale.

JaceLancs · 27/04/2021 23:25

I’ve bought a few dresses recently from tkmaxx
I used to use M n S more but apart from linen most of their dresses are made of non natural fibres which I’m not keen on
I buy from local boutiques and online eg kittybrown.co.uk/

TheHoneyFactory · 27/04/2021 23:36

i buy very selectively from uniqlo. tend to be natural fabrics. i size down often for a less oversized look. but great linen shirt dresses, long sleeved option etc. if i find a style i like i buy in multiples and sometimes dye to a colour i want (often limited colour ranges)

RedRec · 28/04/2021 00:02

Joe Brown's

grannieali · 28/04/2021 01:31

Solution: design what you want and either learn to sew or find a local dressmaker. Up to my forties, I made a lot of dresses, blouses etc, even suits, but this is hard work and there is little choice of paper patterns, though I see the dressmaker next door to me has a selection, mainly a bit retro. Either way, you get exactly what you want without trawling through online catalogues or trudging round shops.
