Satyagraha vibes indeed! Grin

The big question here though is whether frugal has noticed that Haakon has escaped from her airing cupboard...

Maireas · 03/06/2021 19:53

Mmm..... I did spot Haakon living at apparent liberty...

@frugalkitty lets him out for High Days & holidays & it's HMQ's official birthday is June 12th
The only thing I like about Max's outfit is the shoes & the culottes.......well they look like culottes.

frugalkitty · 03/06/2021 22:47

Well. Seeing as you asked.......having recently swapped all three kids winter duvets for summer ones, there's a lot less room in my airing cupboard of late. Thank you for thinking of me MotherofPearl nice to see my hottie is still hot Grin

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 03/06/2021 23:35

Everytime I see Martin Fowler on Eastenders I think he looks like Haakon (they both look like Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert to me)

@frugalkitty I think I better starting running..........

Plus doesn't Ingrid Alexandra resemble Kate & also CPV.
Well her & CPV are cousins (3rd I think?)

I don't watch EastEnders Tracy so I'll let you off! Grin

Royal genealogy nerd alert: I actually worked this out while watching the series Atlantic Crossing about the relationship of Crown Princess Martha of Norway (born a Princess of Sweden) and President Roosevelt. CPV and Ingrid Alexandra are fourth cousins though the marriage of Martha to King Olav (CP Olav when they married). The common ancestor is King Oscar II of Sweden.

Of course, they are related through other marriages as well that I haven't worked out, but that would be mainly thought the British RF (Kings of Norway and Sweden both descended from Queen Victoria) and the Danish RF.

There are quite a few first cousin marriages in the mix (eg CP Martha was both the niece and daughter-in-law of King Haakon VII (King Harald's grandfather) so it's not surprising that there are some family resemblances even among people who are somewhat distant cousins.

I recommend that series; it's very well done. It also shows King Harald as a little boy preferring English to Norwegian and speaking it with an American accent which he has retained to this day.

It's quite fascinating that most of the royal families of Europe descend from either Queen Victoria or King Christian IX of Denmark, both of whom were more or less German. The Netherlands is a notable exception, although they are of German descent too and have never had a Dutch-born consort.

We really need a series on the BBC or Netflix that starts with Victoria and does an episode on each of her children and perhaps grandchildren.
It would be a long series ( cos of all her children and grandchildren ) with fab costumes, interior and exterior shots of grand palaces throughout Europe and Russia, intrigue, wars etc.
If only I was in the industry and could pitch it.
Anyone got Julian Fellowes contact email/ number and I could pitch it to him ? Grin

KillingMeDeftly · 04/06/2021 16:31

@LadyEloise There was a series like that (or similar) in the 70s. Called something like Fall of Eagles. I think it's all on YouTube.

@SenecaFallsRedux thanks I was hoping you'd be along soon to explain it
And @LadyEloise yes I'd deffo watch that
@frugalkitty I hope Hottie knows what day & time he has to be back in the airing cupboard (makes me think of The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe 😊)

SenecaFallsRedux · 05/06/2021 00:11

There is a series of documentaries available on Youtube on Queen Victoria's sons, daughters, and grandchildren.

Here is Part 1 of The Daughters.

LadyEloise · 05/06/2021 00:35

Thank you @SenecaFallsRedux

While scrolling the 'gram today I spotted a photo of Charles and Diana that I'd not seen before. They look so happy and relaxed.

He also looks a bit like Stephen Mangan, which is not something that had occurred to me before. Maybe he needs to be cast in The Crown instead of Dominic West!

Eaumyword · 05/06/2021 12:57

Wow to that photo! With all that went down, they just look like a normal young married couple.
It doesn't look posed, more like a family snapshot, but that arms round the neck gesture is usually construed as a casual gesture of loving possession. They look happy in that moment, which is nice to see.
YY to Stephen Mangan!Grin

Maireas · 05/06/2021 13:03

Sweet picture. I've seen lots of pictures of them in the early days where they look very happy.

Bless them. Such a shame how it ended - it could have been so different Sad

gingercat02 · 05/06/2021 16:12

I think they probably were happy until Di realised Camilla was a permanent fixture in their relationship and then Charles couldn't cope with an emotionally immature and (as he saw it) petulant wife

Maireas · 05/06/2021 16:25

This month's Tatler is a commemoration of Prince Philip. Some lovely articles and photos. There's a section on his European royal relations, how he's related to various royals in Europe- Greek, Spanish, Italian, Yugoslavian, German etc. It's fascinating!

There were quite a few conflicting accounts in the press from their friends and contemporaries when The Crown came out with its Diana-focussed season. Obviously take this all with a grain of salt, as we weren’t there, but there were several who said that the Charles/Camilla relationship wasn’t more than friendship until after Charles and Diana’s relationship broke down some time after Prince Harry was born, but before that point they had been happy. Veteran royal photographer Arthur Edwards posted some lovely photos of them together that he’d taken in the early days that showed plenty of eye contact and affectionate physical contact. He said he didn’t want William and Harry to think it was the case that their parents never cared for each other, as The Crown painted it.

A belated happy birthday to Bhutan's stunning Dragon Queen! Jetsun is just gorgeous and the tiara coordinates beautifully with the colours of her robe.
