Have only seen bits of the service as it was midnight here. Agree it seems so elegant and heartfelt.

Maireas · 18/04/2021 08:52

That is a beautiful picture, @TracyBeakerSoYeah. Sophie took it, and they're so natural and relaxed. How lovely.

There's a beautiful picture circulating of Kate in the car that looks like something out of a 50s film but it feels a bit wrong to be watching a funeral and noticing what people were wearing!

KillingMeDeftly · 18/04/2021 09:09

But I will also be a hypocrite and link to a full-length shot of her where you can see the detail on her dress.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/04/2021 09:11

This image of Kate. Stunning.

Eaumyword · 18/04/2021 09:19

I saw that image too and thought what a beautiful woman Kate is and as a pp noted, how she does austere style so well. Her eyes are greener than I thought and yes, that image could be 18thC side saddle or 1950's movie star.
I do like W&K anyway, but everything about Kate is increasingly regal, elegant and diplomatic. She is such an asset to the RF.

latedecember1963 · 18/04/2021 09:24

Such a beautiful funeral and service. I found the music particularly moving.
I don't suppose it's diplomatically possible for funerals of monarchs to be so pared back, but I wonder if in the future they might be simpler/ more intimate. Another way Prince Philip could be a trail blazer even after he has gone.

LadyEloise · 18/04/2021 09:40

I wonder does Kate's Mum ( and Dad ) look proudly at those beautiful photographs or watch on the tv.
She is a real asset to the RF.
I know I would if it were one of my dcs.

In the first photos I saw her outfit looked navy - a trick of the light obviously.
It was so lovely. What a slim figure.

I'm on the "Lose a lb a Week" thread but I can't even do that Blush

Maireas · 18/04/2021 09:47

She has definitely developed a very elegant style and has learned to use jewellery to enhance and signal (like HM). That's a great photo.

I thinks it's been said before that she really isn't into fashion. This probably helps as she can have outfits and styles chosen for her by people who want to match the outfit to the event/mood/message and know exactly how to do that.

She wears the clothes very well.

I generally prefer her casual outfits, even on official events, but she always looks impeccable and elegant

KillingMeDeftly · 18/04/2021 10:02

I don't know, I would say she is into fashion - all those floral midi dresses she was wearing a while ago were very on-trend, as were the double-breasted blazers (unless she was taking inspiration from EdwardWink).

The day she abandons her skinny jeans is the day we'll know! Skinnies will only be truly over when the two Kate Ms stop wearing them!!

FlorisFigure · 18/04/2021 10:47

Kate’s coat was beautiful.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 18/04/2021 11:00

Kate looked fantastic. I noted that her eye makeup was different from her usual style, which tends to black eyeliner, which would have been too harsh with the black outfit.

And I agree that she has a good stylist who knows how to dress her for the occasion and that she is naturally elegant.

AdaColeman · 18/04/2021 18:29

Lovely new thread!

I felt that the restricted numbers at Philip's funeral gave the family the opportunity to express their private grief, which wouldn't have been possible at a traditional royal funeral, yet they still were able to retain elements of ritual royal mourning.
I think Charles and Anne especially needed those ritual elements.

I thought it was so nice that Her Maj wore the Richmond brooch that she inherited from Queen Mary in 1953. Philip must have seen it countless times I'm sure, I recall her wearing it at State occasions and other family funerals.
It was given as a wedding gift by the town of Richmond to Mary of Teck. Mary's family had lived at White Lodge in Richmond Park for much of her life, and she was seen as a local lass.

Kate's outfit was exquisite, the bow detail was exceptionally stylish. She hit exactly the right note I thought, understated glamour, Philip would have loved it!

anomletteandaglassofwine · 18/04/2021 18:35

I thought Kate looked impeccable, absolutely perfect for the occasion. Everyone was dressed beautifully, I was in awe at their abilities to walk back to the castle in those heels!

Dd and I just watched the programme made for HM's 90th birthday with the home movies, it was very poignant for so many reasons. I think it's her 95th birthday this week. She is a remarkable woman.

RomainingCalm · 18/04/2021 20:38

I thought the whole funeral was perfect - a mix of very personal and traditional and somehow retaining a sense of ceremony despite the obvious restrictions. Whoever pulled it all together did an amazing job - it was a beautiful send off for a great man.

It somehow feels wrong to comment on the clothes but Kate looked so elegant and dignified, the Catherine Walker coat was lovely. And I really liked Sophie's long coat/dress, I thought it really suited her.

Starzinhereyes · 18/04/2021 21:20

That pic of Kate is the car is incredible, the pared back eye liner looks much better & accentuates her beautiful green eyes. She looked incredible as did Zara, Eugenie & Beatrice. The young royals did Philip proud. Anne, Camilla, Sophie & Lady Louise were also utterly elegant.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 19/04/2021 16:48

I agree. The women looked fabulous.

MotherofPearl · 19/04/2021 20:49

I know lots of us on here admire Sophie's work ethic and all-round niceness, so thought this article might be of interest:

Maireas · 19/04/2021 21:47

Nice article MotherofPearl. It has been reported that HM regards Sophie as another daughter, which is lovely.

All of the women (and men as well) looked very smartly turned out. Philip, who always dressed immaculately for public events, would be proud.

FlorisFigure · 20/04/2021 08:56

I don’t know whether this is the right thread, but I have done some armchair psychology on the facial expressions during the walk behind the coffin. Charles looked devastated, Anne stricken, Edward distantly sad, yet accepting, William looked solemn, knowing there is a void to be filled -and Andrew looked plain angry.

KillingMeDeftly · 20/04/2021 10:29

I wouldn't presume to know what they were thinking as everyone grieves in different ways.

It's not the right thread. You can ask for it to be deleted, and/or put it on a thread about the funeral in "royal family"

Max has been out and about this week sporting some of her very distinctive jewellery! I quite like those chunky bracelets and the wooden necklace; she certainly looks good in them.
