To think M&S are finally on the right path?

M&S online are now stocking special collections by:

  • Sosandar
  • Ghost
  • Jaeger
  • Hobbs
  • Phase 8
  • Nobody's Child

They seem to be adding new brands reasonably frequently that all actually fit with a good target market for them.

I'm suddenly seeing loads of things on their website I actually really like!

I've noticed it OP. Have been eyeing up this Ghost dress.

To think M&S are finally on the right path?
KoalaOok · 16/04/2021 22:07

Is Sosandar any good? I keep hearing about them.

KoalaOok · 16/04/2021 22:08

All the online stores are going to end up stocking the same brands at this rate!

Chihuahuacat · 16/04/2021 22:10

Yes I think so! I’m only 29 so normally wouldn’t look twice at them but placed a large order recently on the back of Instagram posts and was pleasantly surprised

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 16/04/2021 22:12

They have upped their online game but will the stores catch up?

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 16/04/2021 22:22

They are copying Next who have been doing this for years but with the benefit of a credit account and much easier returns and delivery / collection

idontlikealdi · 16/04/2021 22:27

I'm interested to hear review about Sosandar, any good?

IdblowJonSnow · 16/04/2021 22:31

That Ghost dress is beautiful.

Campervan69 · 16/04/2021 22:34

They have some lovely dresses this season. I'm tempted by a few.

wheresmymojo · 16/04/2021 22:49

That dress is lovely!

I don't like to shop at Next online as they have so many brands there's too much choice for me!

OP posts:
wheresmymojo · 16/04/2021 22:51

It's good for me as I'm a fatty and they have got Sosander to do their items up to a size 20 which is (I think?) larger than they usually do.

I haven't heard anything specific about their M&S collection yet but heard good things about them and the quality of their clothes on here generally.

wheresmymojo · 16/04/2021 22:52

I wish they'd update their app to allow you to 'favourite' or 'wish list' things though!

Massive missing feature IMO...

I often create wish lists and then go back to purchase something days or weeks later.

I’ve liked their jeans range for a while.

wheresmymojo · 16/04/2021 22:57

It's plain but I have my eye on this casual navy T-shirt dress

Not sure if it’s improved now, but I ordered some M&S Ghost collaboration dresses when they launched the first collection last year. They looked gorgeous online but were so disappointing when they arrived- the fabric was really cheap polyester.

Oly4 · 16/04/2021 23:15

Agree, I’ve got several things this season.. and all from their normal range

RovenderKitt · 16/04/2021 23:22

Had this exact conversation with DH last night (I’m sure he was riveted 😂). I’m really pleased they’ve got Jaeger and I love their beauty section too.

Agreed. I bought one and was really excited about it but it was such a horrible material that I've only worn it once.

Yes 100%
RosesAndHellebores · 17/04/2021 07:03

Love the Jaeger pieces. M&S used to make that quality in the 80s and early 90s. I had some fabulous pure wool dresses and work suits then. The price point in mid 80s was about £35 for a dress and £100 for a suit so with inflation the price point is about right. It's all about cut and fabric and afaiac M&S work stuff nowadays is just cheap and nasty.

I think they will do well with the disappearance of brands like Basler, Reiss, Jaeger, etc from the High Street. I'd really like it if stores would stock samples

LizzieMacQueen · 17/04/2021 07:26

@RosesAndHellebores - are Reiss closing? I'd not heard anything.

ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel · 17/04/2021 07:40

Marks and Spencer need to realise that they are not the arbiter of fashion but the death knell of style.

So basically, M&S adopting a brand or a style that is fashionable or stylish won’t elevate M&S. It’ll just kill whatever kudos that style or brand has stone dead.

The only time stylish people ever wear anything from M&S is to prove they have enough style to counteract the M&S ness. To pull it off to the stent that no-one would ever guess it was M&S.

The aim of the game there is for the person to wear M&S, be complimented on the garment and say “oh, M&S” with a certain twinkle in their eye that says both “I am an alchemist” and “gotcha”.

M&S will never be a cool kid. Not even in that way really uncool, weird kids can be when they are doing their own thing unconcerned about it’s coolness. They just do it because it’s enjoyable or interesting or because they have standards.

That’s why sometimes vintage St Michael stuff is cool— it harks back to. Time when Markies didn’t care about being cool.

It cared about quality, standards and keeping it’s UK based factory workers in a job for life. Not about whether some bint on Instagram likes their lastest pair of £20 polyester trousers that cost 20o to make.

AppleKatie · 17/04/2021 07:53

I went on the website for underwear and left with kids clothes, underwear and a top for myself - so I’d say the website marketing has improved certainly!

I was even pleasantly surprised with the top when it came, it’s a good material, lovely colour and most importantly it fits really well- really good cut and as described.

It’s the first m&s purchase I haven’t been vaguely disappointed with for years.

MayflowerMaisie · 17/04/2021 08:25

They should have got the basics sorted out first. Their website has so many items not modelled, so
It’s difficult to work out what they might look like on, their delivery always seems to make mistakes.
I do love their beauty section in larger stores.
But if I wanted to browse around a physical shop that was offering a selection of brands, I’d much rather go to JL than M&S

Same with Nobody's child. I did an order through M&S and the quality was appalling.
