@Fembot123

You are too old to wear them ironically and too young to wear them normally
100% this. I’m all for ‘age is just a number’ usually, but I can’t let a fellow Mumsnetter sport these in public, in good conscience.

It’s the kind of ‘joke’ fashion that is created for the few young super-gorgeous creatures who walk the earth- to prove that they can wear absolutely anything and still retain their supernatural grace and cool.

On anyone else- well, you’d better be a Dominican priest.

goldielockdown2 · 16/04/2021 13:09

I don't know why d

goldielockdown2 · 16/04/2021 13:10

Why so many are against them* 🤷‍♀️ they are really on trend but classic too and will last

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 16/04/2021 13:42

@Cillmantain

Absolutely not. I don't subscribe to the notion that once past a certain age one "shouldn't wear" something. I think they are fabulous
Are you one of those people who wear StartRite style shoes on a daily basis?

I mean, I do wear sensible shoes due to arthritis (have been known to wear Hotter without giving a damn what anybody thinks) - but surely these are 1978 summer school wear for little boys and usually paired with grey shorts, long socks, a parka and a navy blue balaclava, from what I remember ?

fantasmasgoria1 · 16/04/2021 13:52

If you want something have it. The only time age should have a bearing on your age is if something impedes your mobility in some way!

LittlePearl · 16/04/2021 13:54

I love them OP, and would definitely wear them (nearly your age) but sadly they're out of my price bracket.

Honestly don't understand some of the comments here but then I love a chunky shoe.

tiredmum2468 · 16/04/2021 16:49

I don't think footwear has an age limit however they are quite possibly the ugliest shoes ever

ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel · 16/04/2021 16:50

Do you or anyone you know possess eyes? If the answer is yes, don’t get them.

I think the only shoes one gets too old for are uncomfortable ones, who needs the discomfort.

So good.
mejon · 16/04/2021 20:16

I like them OP and would wear them (bit too ££ for me though). I do like a fisherman sandal Smile. Not keen on the R&B ones as they look too 'dainty'. Don't like the DM ones either - I've had DM sandals in the past and they were like wearing bricks on my feet - so heavy!

If you like them, they feel comfortable and you can afford them, go for it.

MrsMaizel · 16/04/2021 20:20

I would say that you are too old for them as you can remember when these things were what old men would wear and we wouldn't touch with a barge pole 😂 I don't get this thing for ugly sandals .

SpeckledyHen · 17/04/2021 08:06

Decision made :)

I’m not buying them , having just read their Trust Pilot reviews , absolutely diabolical.

I’m going to track down the the R & B ones in a branch .

Just incase you did like the DM ones (can't remember), my mum has always had them, loves them and says they're very comfy. She's worn them for decades.

(For clarity, my mum is 51, the 'decades' does not suggest I think they are 'older' footwear!)

SpeckledyHen · 17/04/2021 08:18

Thank you Herja , they were sold out when I looked .

My old dad, bless him, always wore fisherman sandals in the summer & we'd all laugh at him. He'd be pleased as punch to know they're trendy if he were alive today.

The first pair aren't to my taste but the 2nd pair are so I might buy a pair in remembrance of my lovely dad.

TuvoknotSpock · 17/04/2021 08:59

I think they are ugly but if you like them, crack on whatever your age

Catlover77 · 17/04/2021 09:10

I like your first pair or isolated dizzy’s suggestion for R&B.

Chemenger · 17/04/2021 09:13

I’m sure I remember crying my eyes out about being made to wear very similar sandals when I was a small child, because even then I knew they were ugly. Mumsnet loves ugly shoes though, so I’m sure there will be lots of fans of these.

Chemenger · 17/04/2021 09:13

Having said that if you like them wear them.

fishonabicycle · 22/04/2021 07:29

I love shoes/sandals with really chunky soles! They are great - much cooler than little dainty lady sandals.

pigglepot · 22/04/2021 07:32

I love them!! I'm 32. And you're definitely not too old to wear them.

JudyLiz · 27/05/2022 12:31

I found your thread asking myself the same question … I’m 57. Did you end up buying and did you love them or regret them?

They are "on trend" because some fashion writers say so or someone sends models down the catwalk in them? They are "classic" for old men. They are a Marmite thing. I prefer the chunky one to the other.
