Alpha H liquid gold is amazing stuff - what else is like this?

Honestly, I look about 5 years younger and as though I've had 15 hours of the best sleep ever when I put this on my face.

I don't know if it's a bit harmful doing it every night.

But if this works for you, what else works on your skin?

@HelenHywater Ooh where do you buy this what does it do? I've never heard of it!

RogueV · 10/04/2021 14:48

Paulas choice BHA is even better...

ladysunshine · 10/04/2021 15:29

I used to love Alpha H, I bought the Aldi Healthy Glow, but it just hasn't had the same effect. Menopause has brought me out in worse outbreaks than puberty did, so I'm re-ordering. Thanks for the reminder!

MyHouse2011 · 10/04/2021 15:36

@HelenHywater can you tell us or link to the product that you use? Thanks

HelenHywater · 10/04/2021 15:59

hi there, yes it's this one

I love liquid gold, I have been using it for years and it's still effective but I only need it once or twice a week now.

Other things I love as much:
Paula's Choice Resist Anti oxidant serum
CeraVe hydrating cleanser
Fresh Rose Hydrating spray (totally unnecessary but smells and feels lovely)

cracracatlady · 10/04/2021 16:27

Elemis resurfacing cleanser

lindyloo57 · 10/04/2021 16:53

I've been using it for a year now, get mine off qvc when its on offer

dementedma · 10/04/2021 16:58

Too expensive for me. Whats good but cheaper?

ElspethFlashman · 10/04/2021 18:58

You can get Liquid Gold on M&S and sometimes they have 3.for 2s and beauty offers.

I got 3 bottles for the price of 1.5 about 2 years ago!

I don't use it much anymore, i have some Pixi glow tonic as well which is v v similar.

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 10/04/2021 19:09

Is this the same as tretinoin?

HelenHywater · 10/04/2021 19:21

Well it is glycolic I think, but it is better than any of the other serums I have used.

Am interested in the Paula's Choice stuff.

Starlitexpress · 10/04/2021 23:26

Well I hope this alpha-h stuff is good as I've just ordered a small bottle of it off Amazon!
Wish I had started a skin care routine years ago but better late than never.

Freetodowhatiwant · 10/04/2021 23:29

I find Pixi glow tonic is excellent followed by
The ordinary hylaronic acid. Whenever I regular use this routine I get compliments about my skin.

Divebar2021 · 10/04/2021 23:33

It’s been purchased 22 times from Cult Beauty today.... I wonder if those are all Mumsnetters?

I have 2 questions .... is it ok for dry skin and can you use it if you’re using retinol?

ElspethFlashman · 10/04/2021 23:46

You can't use it on the same nights as retinol.

And it is drying, it reeks of alcohol.

Hoolihan · 10/04/2021 23:50

Another vote for the Pixi Glow Tonic, think it's £18 and lasts ages. I use it in the morning before moisturiser and tretinoin at night.

MyHouse2011 · 10/04/2021 23:52

@HelenHywater

hi there, yes it's this one
Thanks. I’ll take a look.
Netaporter · 10/04/2021 23:56

I’ve upped my skincare since lockdown 1. My friend recommended me to join the Caroline Hirons closed group on FB. Loads of advice there from ‘the freaks’ for AM and PM routines. Products I swear by now: Pixi to go pads , Oskia vit c capsules, kate Somerville peptide power cream (vv £’SS tho) the inkey list polyglutamic acid, Zelens facial oil, Jordan Samuel aftershow cleanser, the inkey list caffeine eye cream, prai throat and décolleté day and night creams, the ordinary AHA peeling solution and anything by sarah chapman (the moisture masks are excellent and the overnight facial oil). I also invested in a nuface mini and sarah chapman steamer.

Double cleaning is a game changer.

As you might guess, I spend a lot longer in the bathroom now Grin I’ve just started tonight sweed lash serum.

MyPampasIsIntoSwingingNotMe · 10/04/2021 23:58

I

Rainallnight · 11/04/2021 00:00

@Netaporter Do you really put all that on your face every day? Shock

Netaporter · 11/04/2021 00:12

No Grin the OP asked for recommendations. These are mine.

Every day I do, AM- double cleanse, acid, serums (eye/face) polyglutamic acid, moisturisers (face/neck) then spf. PM double cleanse, acid, treatment (retinol) then overnight cream/oil. I now add in lash serum. Once a week I nuface. a couple of times a week I use the facial steamer.

You do need to wait for active serums/retinol to sink in before moisturising so it isn’t all done in 5 mins. I can honestly say I do look a lot younger. Fine lines and redness around my nose have disappeared and my skin is now glowing.

RiverSkater · 11/04/2021 00:17

I use the Bravura Glycolic Acid moisturiser alternating nightly with Tretinoin. I might try that Alpha A when it runs out though!

Ingridla · 11/04/2021 00:34

I bought some as saw people raving about it on here but I don't really understand what it does, or how I'm supposed to apply it

Namaste6 · 11/04/2021 04:06

Love my Alpha H Liquid Gold. It's a beauty myth that you can't use an acid (AHA or BHA) with a retinol. Just be sure to start with a low dose retinol and work up after your skin has adjusted. I once swapped Alph H liquid gold for the Ordinary version (which had a higher glycolic %) but I just didn't get the same results.

For anyone that needs help with where to start on layering products - have a look at Paula's Choice website and Doctorly on you tube.

Also another one here for Nuface (am) and LED mask (10 mins) in the evening.

Now in my early 50s and my skin is the best condition it has ever been in. Consistency is key with any product or home device treatment plan.
