Supergas-yes or no?

I've heard them mentioned on here and had a look today and love all the different colours. Are they a good choice for someone in their 40s? I'd be wearing them with jeans or linen trousers. Are they comfy? I had converse once and they were bloody awful and so heavy. I have skinny feet and walk a lot so need to be comfy.

@Retailqueenie

I’ve worn Superga Cotu metallic silver for about 4 years (4 pairs) they are Soooooooo comfy. They are not ‘out of fashion’ (I work in fashion) & not just worn by 12yr olds (I’m 47yrs).

I love them. If you love the look of them, try a pair.

oooo i like them! I went for the khaki canvas ones. Maybe I'll treat them as entry level and work up to silver!
Ellpellwood · 03/04/2021 09:01

I think they're quite a timeless shape. I don't have my pair any more but I still wear Converse regularly. The Superga were probably at least 50% heavier than Converse!

I tend to just buy a white, neat-fitting pair of trainers for the summer. I've gone for low Nike Blazers this time.

rk47 · 03/04/2021 09:15

I’ve been wondering about supergas too, just seem expensive but I can’t find anything I like the look of more really

Retailqueenie · 03/04/2021 09:20

I’ve just bought a pair of VEJA for spring, they need a lot more wearing in than new pair of supergas, but I’m told they will give & be comfy in the long run.. time will tell!

Melassa · 03/04/2021 09:35

My teen DD loves them, they’re her summer school shoes. I’ve never been a fan, I remember the sweatfest from wearing them in the 90s, but maybe I just have particularly sweaty feet. Mind you, DD’s get a bit pongy too but you can bung them in the washing machine, plus a light dusting of bicarbonate between washes also helps.

DD has very narrow feet (sandals are always a challenge for this reason) and she’s not had issues with Supergas. I had no idea they fit wide.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 03/04/2021 09:38

I think they are a bit mumsy now, 10yrs ago they were the thing to wear.

Spied · 03/04/2021 09:39

Toms?
Hate Superga. Too clumpy and heavy.

PandoraP · 03/04/2021 09:41

What is the thing to wear in 2021 then?

youngestisapsycho · 03/04/2021 10:01

I have a few pairs of Superga. Certainly don't find them clumpy or heavy... they're the most comfortable shoes I have.
I walk for miles in them. I have wide feet too.

@keeponkeepinon

I don't own any but I think they are like converse in that they are timeless and will never actually go out of style. I like them op and they won't look unstylish!
Both converse and supergas offer no arch support. Avoid.
windmill26 · 03/04/2021 10:53

I don't think of Supergas as fashionable or unfashionable...they are classic . I would put them in the same category as polos from Ralph Lauren / Lacoste , gommini driving shoes from Tod's , shirts from Brooks Brothers etc... You won't be setting the "fashion world" on fire but you will look polished. Buy a pair ,try them on around the house and if they are not for you send them back.

PhantomErik · 03/04/2021 10:53

I'm 40 & wear them. I have 2 pairs, 1 black & 1 white. They are heavier than Converse but the sole is much better quality in my opinion.

I love them, they're so comfortable but I do have slightly wide feet (not wide enough for 'wide fit' though).

I wear them (without socks) with jeans or shorts.

I also put them through the washing machine pretty often & they last really well. My first pair lasted 3 years & haven't fallen apart but do look scruffy now. I wear them for gardening/DIY & have bought a new pair for this year.

PhantomErik · 03/04/2021 10:56

Oh & I also have fairly flat feet & anything with arch support causes me agony!

Obviously some people want/need arch support so they might not be suitable.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 03/04/2021 11:23

I love mine. Super comfy. I think they are trendy. I'm 33

brushlaptop · 03/04/2021 11:28

Yes! I like them

Thereisnoname · 03/04/2021 11:34

Can't comment on supagras as never had any but have you tried sketchers? They are so comfy, the bobs are a great go between for summer haven't worn any other shoes for a few years now.
Or this company www.moshulu.co.uk has some lovely canvas ones, haven't tried them yet but about to order some.

Agree with this 100%. I've been wearing superga for about 10 years. I buy new white ones every year but also have navy, mid blue, silver and rose gold at the moment. I am 43, with slightly wide feet I'd say. Converse look ridiculous on me, but I think Superga look much more polished. I find them very comfortable and supportive - I've walked miles in them on various city breaks over the years and they require no breaking in. You'll always get good deals on amazon, tkmaxx and brand alley and they run about a half size bigger than standard.
AprilFoolaround · 03/04/2021 20:52

I've ordered some and will see what they look and feel like. I never want what everyone else is wearing but don't like to be particularly different either. There's some god awful footwear out there. Balenciaga I'm looking at you and your weird and obscenely expensive wetsuit-boots disguised as sneakers like below.

I find supergas uncomfortable for any long time on my feet. Air and Grace however are like clouds to walk on in comparison. Pricier but last so well. I still have the first pair I bought from 5years ago and still get compliments on them all the time.

NewMexico · 03/04/2021 21:36

I’d say they’re quite classic — I think they were first made in the 1920s, Princess Diana was wearing them in the ‘90s and plenty of people wear them now. I find mine really versatile for wearing with different outfits but not good for longer walks as they rub my little toe.

They’re fine just run of the mill slightly safe trainers

Strangekindofwoman · 03/04/2021 21:54

Part of the MC mum uniform.

IndecentFeminist · 03/04/2021 22:00

I have a pair and like them, my usual favourites are Adidas superstars but it is nice to have a change of style every now and then. I find them comfy and they've lasted a few years now.

QueenofLouisiana · 04/04/2021 00:35

I’m on my 5th pair I think. I wear them to death and change colour each time. I’m on a sage green this year. I think they are fairly timeless and go with pretty much all spring/ summer clothes (within reason!).
I can’t wear converse as they feel too flat and unsupportive, but no problem with Superga. I also find my Stan Smiths rub my heels off, so still haven’t managed to wear those very much.

MissMarks · 04/04/2021 00:43

I have about six pairs in various colours. They are grand. The leather ones are my favourite! Have leather converse too which are also good.
