Supergas-yes or no?

I've heard them mentioned on here and had a look today and love all the different colours. Are they a good choice for someone in their 40s? I'd be wearing them with jeans or linen trousers. Are they comfy? I had converse once and they were bloody awful and so heavy. I have skinny feet and walk a lot so need to be comfy.

The canvas ones can come up quite wide if you have narrow feet. I can only wear mine in the summer when my feet swell a bit due to the heat (I have varicose veins) otherwise they just sit in a cupboard.

bootlebum · 02/04/2021 22:42

I found them v uncomfortable and also a bit pedestrian and dull when you consider all the really lovely trainers out there

Bubblegumfarts · 02/04/2021 22:46

Supergas are quite wide fitting. I have narrow feet and the only time I worn a pair was when I was pregnant and my feet had swollen up, they were also quite heavy to walk in.

bravotango · 02/04/2021 22:48

I love them! Think they wear better than converse. However if you have skinny feet and want something lighter than converse...I don't think they're for you!

Walesrecommendations · 02/04/2021 22:49

I've just bought some as an alternative to converse which I've been trying to cram my wide feet into for years. I like them for a basic chuck on shoe, but like PP say they are wide. They do some patterned or espadrille platform ones as well as the basic.

AprilFoolaround · 02/04/2021 22:50

Sounds like they aren't for me then. I've never found any trainers I really like that fall into the lightweight and good with a variety of outfits category. I don't understand the love of Stan Smiths or Air Force on here. They aren't something I'd go for at all. Something between a ballet flat and a trainer is what I'm after.

I've had a couple of pairs and find them comfy and versatile. I had some taupe canvas ones which I wore so much they fell apart and currently wear a dark pewter leather pair that are heavyish but I don't mind that. They are quite wide but I don't mind that - I bought silver Converse at the same time but they made my feet look very long and thin, so I sent them back.

ShrikeAttack · 02/04/2021 22:52

I'm in my late 40s and wouldn't wear them because they're a bit ten years ago!

If you like them though, wear them. They're inoffensive. No-one will judge you for wearing them.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/04/2021 22:53

I have black chunky soled hi tops and I'm 43.
I love them.

TokyoSushi · 02/04/2021 22:54

I have some, they're very comfy but I always feel a bit like I'm wearing school PE pumps!

mammmamia · 02/04/2021 22:57

Wondering about these as well.

What else do people recommend for spring - summer?

windmill26 · 02/04/2021 23:24

What about Bensimon ?As you have narrow feet they would fit you better than Supergas. I find them perfect for summer, light and comfortable plus they come in a lot of lovely colours.
You can find them on Amazon or La Redoute.

SarahBellam · 03/04/2021 07:23

Try Etnies. They’re designed for skateboarders and the like, so they have well padded soles and are really comfortable.

QuentininQuarantino · 03/04/2021 07:45

Have you considered toms? Sounds like what you’re after when you say a cross between a ballet flat and a trainer.

rookiemere · 03/04/2021 07:49

I have a pair and if I've not already consigned them to the charity shop then I will do when they reopen. They're flat and unsupportive- probably fine if you're younger but not very comfortable if you want to wear them all day and do a fair amount of walking. I prefer Woden trainers which have cork soles and more of a traditional trainer structure.

What do you wear then? I'm feeling a bit old fashioned now bc I have literally just ordered my first pair of Superga! Drat Always behind the trends!
Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 03/04/2021 08:07

I've just bought some off amazon for £25. Half price. I was looking for plimsolls and these came up. I want them to look like school pe shoes! I think they look great in the summer with skirts, dresses and shorts. Dressed down but still quite chic. Or maybe I'm deluded and I'll look like a giant toddler 🤣

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 03/04/2021 08:10

@shallIswim honestly, wear what you like. I think still caring too much about what is in fashion in your 40s is a little bit tragic really. I'm not suggesting you should give up and buy comfy shoes out of the Sunday supplements but style should come before whats currently fashionable for 20 somethings.

GeoffreyGeoffreys · 03/04/2021 08:12

I have these which have a slightly thinner sole than normal supergas. The comfiest shoes I own and have just survived the washing machine.

icelollycraving · 03/04/2021 08:16

I love them. I’ve worn one pair of mine so much, they are falling apart. I have wide fat feet though.

P0gM0Th0in · 03/04/2021 08:23

Converse do a cross between a trainer and a ballet flat, if that is what you’re after. I have a few pairs. Search for converse dainty ballerina on eBay. They don’t have laces.

Bookmarket · 03/04/2021 08:25

I like superga as they fit my feet well and I find them comfortable and lightweight. As I have quite big feet and skinny calves and ankles there are so many trainers I can't wear because they look stupid on me.

I like how they look with shorts and dresses and lightweight trousers. I could do with something a bit more substantial looking to wear with jeans.

Retailqueenie · 03/04/2021 08:25

I’ve worn Superga Cotu metallic silver for about 4 years (4 pairs) they are Soooooooo comfy. They are not ‘out of fashion’ (I work in fashion) & not just worn by 12yr olds (I’m 47yrs).

I love them. If you love the look of them, try a pair.

I absolutely love mine. I have the canvas one and they are very comfy, I did order smaller than my usual size as they come big. I first saw them on the Duchess of Cambridge in 2019 and I just loved how she wore them. Would definitely not describe it as plain and dated, it's how you wear it and what you wear with it. I'd consider them timeless.
