Anyone else at least a tiny bit impressed?

And have you bought anything?

I've just been to have a look and it all looks a bit gloomy and sad to me - convent chic.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 26/03/2021 08:35

Gloomy? All those fiercely striped shirts? One on its way to me as I speak.

(I haven't seen the site since yesterday morning so don't know what's left.)

But convent chic is a very chic look in my eyes. Nothing more so. I've been a Jil Sander fan since the 90s, though.

RockaLock · 26/03/2021 08:47

Pretty much everything I was interested in was sold out by about 9:07am yesterday. Angry

It really annoys me when big companies do such limited releases. I get that they want it to be "exclusive" and create some hype around it, but seriously, just make a few more, please!

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 26/03/2021 09:04

Bad luck, RockaLock! Yes, hype and exclusivity ... But, tbh I'm generally wary of buying mass market clothes for fear of seeing my clothes on other people.

This is the first time I've ever joined in, so to speak. Usually I read about these events with a dispassionate eye, after they're over - and I'd never shopped at Uniqlo until lockdown. I've been quite impressed with the loungewear I ordered for Netflix life.

With the Jil Sander collection, even with relatively limited time, I was as scrupulous about enlarging photos and examining the fabric, cut, stitching, as I would be for items costing ten times as much - the disappointment would be the same if the things don't meet expectations.

Anyway, we'll see.

I've got a cotton silk knit jumper and cardigan on its way to me right now.

I like a bit of convent chic and I'd have probably bought more if I'd been in a real shop but I'm tired of playing 'Guess-the-size' and returning stuff so I played safe.

Rock if there's something you want there's a good chance of grabbing a return if you keep checking.

botemp · 26/03/2021 10:43

Yes, loads of stock was back on the site this morning and even if it's not your size you can sign up for a back in stock notification.

Come join us on the Parisiennes thread if you like, OP, we're discussing at length and many bought a few items.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 26/03/2021 10:58

I probably wouldn't have bought anything in an actual shop! On the two occasions I've stepped into a Uniqlo store I found the bland, job-lot aesthetic deeply depressing. It needed the added glamour of photos on a screen to tempt me.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 26/03/2021 11:26

Thanks for the invitation, botemp. Not sure I buy enough clothes to earn a place there!

Uniqlo hasn't got free returns any more unfortunately

goose1964 · 26/03/2021 14:24

I like her sweatshirt dresses but they look like they came from Primark.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 26/03/2021 14:25

I tried to buy a couple of things but they sold out too quickly. Also, I don't see why the sizing has to be different. No longer offering free returns means I'm unlikely to bother if I've got to guess sizes.

RockaLock · 26/03/2021 14:35

Thanks Flo and others - I will keep an eye out for stock coming back in.

The lack of free returns is making me think a bit, though, as although I know I am a small in Uniqlo tops, knitwear etc, trousers are a bit trickier to work out.

I am so sick of buying online and retuning things. I can't wait for 12th April!

XingMing · 26/03/2021 14:55

My +J order was delivered at lunchtime, and I am really pleased with blue and white hoodies, and with the silk cotton cardigan.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 26/03/2021 16:32

That's good to know, XingMing. I'm quite excited about my order - but vaguely worried that the fabric might look cheap. Not majorly worried though - there's no chance I'll be dragging myself to the post office to return it.

OP posts:
Floisme · 26/03/2021 17:03

I think the silk cotton knits are very classy. I'm still wearing the crew neck jumper - even though it's not quite warm enough - and I feel like one of those women who live on Fifth Avenue with a small dog.

XingMing · 26/03/2021 17:05

Based on my order Pursuing, the fabrics don't look or feel cheap. Even the mainly polyester hoodies have a good drape and are well-constructed. The zip is stitched onto petersham tape to give it support.

MNOverinvestor · 26/03/2021 17:08

I love my grey hoodie - superb shape, great material... can't wait for the rest to arrive (silk cotton crew neck)

Frequentflier · 26/03/2021 17:10

Do you all find the Uniqlo site glitchy? Everytime I try to view my basket, it shows me the Paypal checkout instead.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/03/2021 16:37

No, I haven't found that, Frequentflier - but the site does sometimes overwhelm my phone. It works better on my laptop.

My ferocious shirt has arrived!

I'm struggling to find any fault at all with it. The white band collar is possibly a tiny bit flimsier than it might be on something more expensive. I've seen more exquisite stitching - but it costs a lot more. Otherwise - the structure, colours, cuffs are all glorious and it arrived with thoughtful collar and placket paper supports. I am impressed!

Tried it on. The blue suits me. I bought a large rather than a medium for purposes of wafting elegantly through summer. After a wash or two the roomy shoulders will drape beautifully.

I can testify that, at least for this item, the hype was worth it.

OP posts:
Floisme · 27/03/2021 16:54

The blue stripey one? I got a similar one from the autumn collection but sent it back Shock It had nothing to do with the quality, it was just that it felt a bit like a work shirt and as I'm hurtling towards retirement / redundancy / both, I felt it was time to move on from things that reminded me of office life. My head still says it was the right call but my heart isn't sure. Anyway it sounds like a success - good!

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 27/03/2021 17:41

I can understand that Floisme. But I'm now so far from any memory of City life that a striped shirt feels like an attractive adventure again. And I'm planning to wear it over huge shorts and strappy sandals or clogs - no hint of cloister or Inn ...

OP posts:
Rollerbird · 27/03/2021 18:35

Ooh @alsohuman that's worth knowing!!

Nitgel · 27/03/2021 18:41

Argh I missed this. I wonder if they will have any in store when they open

faustina · 27/03/2021 18:58

Oh I didn't know there was an actual thread about the Uniqlo collaboration! Can anyone tell me how the hoodie sizing is? Bigger or smaller than usual? Also the safari jacket too, and the linen cotton tapered trousers

I have the lovely selvedge jeans which I'm still not sure about keeping because they seem a little smaller than the usual uniqlo jeans sizing. Might see if they have the next size up to order - they seem to do their restocks first thing in the morning
