How to look more trendy/ stylish

I need help to look more ’with it’ as my dear old mum would say Smile .

I wear a suit or dresses and jackets during the week and am ok with my work wardrobe, it’s the weekends I struggle with.

I wear mainly jeans and would like a jacket rather than my usual hoodie to go with them . My daughter bought me a pair of white trainers and has persuaded me to roll my jeans up a bit when I wear them (we used to call ankle length trousers ‘Jack ups’ and meant you had outgrown them !)

I am such a ditherer and am swinging between a denim jacket , long trench coat, blazer , biker jacket.
Can anyone help me to make me and my jeans look more stylish please?

A blazer sounds lovely and the jeans and trainers will keep it casual. If you normally wear a hoodie at the weekend though, will this feel like you? An alternative would be a utility jacket? Happy shopping 😁

OverweightPidgeon · 07/03/2021 10:41

Thank you, I know what you mean about feeling like me but I’m so fed up with being so unimaginative and boring, a utility jacket sounds interesting, I’ll have a google.

I love Pinterest for inspiration, just do a search on things like weekend style and go from there.

If you feel comfortable in hoodies maybe try them with a new style of jeans, your trainers and a leather jacket or wool coat.

I use eBay a lot for cheap wardrobe updates, I got a fab leather jacket there for £4 recently.

I second the Pinterest advice! Pinterest all the way.

I'd go for a black biker jacket - leather ages well. Although I think they look better with black jeans or dresses. If you're not ready to take the plunge, you could look at a suede one. I have a khaki suede one, which is casual yet cool (well, I think so!).

Trainers with smarter trousers or with dresses also make things look more casual.

I often wear denim/canvas skirts at the weekend in the summer rather than shorts, as I think it's very hard to look stylish in shorts!

OverweightPidgeon · 07/03/2021 12:23

That’s exactly the look I like! Thank you.

I love the idea of a khaki jacket too .

Is it a suede type fabric? I think it needs to be more of a biker style. Or in a wool type fabric for that shape.

Have a look at this article about spring jackets. There are a few padded jackets that look good and also “shackets” plus denim etc which go beyond the styles you’ve mentioned. Don’t go for something which is not your taste if you’re going to feel awkward in it.

I like that and I'd wear that with jeans, plain Tee or shirt and trainers.
OverweightPidgeon · 07/03/2021 14:20

Yay ! I’ve just had a delve under my bed and found a denim jacket I completely forgot I had , it must be at least 15 years old!
I like this kind of look ( just ordered khaki jeans)

Regarding the jacket I pictured up thread, I’m not too sure about the material, I think (for me) I would feel too ‘dustmany’ !

Agree re shorts. I never wear them, they only look good on models and under 25s. They are quite mumsy in my opinion. Skirts/dresses all the way in summer... Agree with trainers. Finishes a look off nicely

I do wear shorts in the summer Blush I’ve got a white mid thigh pair that I’ve worn loads .

What a sweeping generalisation. Depends on the shorts and the individual.

OverweightPidgeon · 07/03/2021 14:36

I’d quite like a wide leg pair of trousers again maybe with trainers?

Like I say that's only my opinion!! A lot of people like them which is fine! I think I've never worn them in oh part as my legs are so pale and I was called white legs at school...Grin
Atalune · 07/03/2021 14:59

Don’t like that jacket at all. Sell it.

What’s your size/shape?

Cherryup · 07/03/2021 15:01

I have these wide leg which look good with trainers and a denim jacket.

OverweightPidgeon · 07/03/2021 15:11

@Atalune I haven’t bought it , just saw it on eBay
