Oh hush you Grin! That's lovely to get a random compliment! It is a lovely dress and really suits you. So, dragging ourselves out of joggers and leggings seems to be worth it then!

StCharlotte glad the work situation is going to be managable.

Don't be silly that wasn't braggy, its lovely to get compliments. My colleague said she liked my shirt today too (Whitestuff light blue with white peacock pattern, jersey material). I get loads of compliments most days because of the mostly lovely client group I work with, but they're mostly a bit off the wall and not to be taken entirely seriously Grin This morning I started work at 7am and two people told me they loved me within the first five minutes, one suggested getting married, and one told me I have beautiful arms, beautiful legs, beautiful eyes and a beautiful head... Its not personal though, all the female colleagues get the same Grin One lady also called me a dirty sow in the same five minutes, and another greeted me and said "oh you're wearing that" and laughed hysterically, so it balances out Grin Compliments from colleagues or neighbours definitely mean a bit more though Grin.

Ah @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme, sounds like never a dull moment with your clients! What a fun, but I'm sure very challenging, job.

I'm wearing the same thing as yesterday, so won't post a pic again!

The great wardrobe clear out continues. I'm waiting for another bag from Loopster to sell them clothes, but I've been waiting a while and haven't had a confirmation email...wonder if they still have a backlog. Might have to find somewhere else to sell them.

I also saw another heavily reduced Alice Temperley Somerset dress and accidentally bought it. But I mean...it's beautiful, the other one is such lovely quality and it was reduced form something like £150 to £39. I've ordered a size down as it doesn't have buttons on the front like the other one does, so don't have the gape issue and the other one is loose on the waist.

I meant to say thank you for the perfume link! I actually ordered a 30ml bottle of Mon Guerlain yesterday. I like the sound of the Tom Ford one even more though!

ParisJeTAime yay for reduced Alice Temperly dress!

I'm home from work to find a parcel - spring/ summer shoes which sadly I'll have to send back because they don't fit, "not goth" burgendy boots because I thought I deserved boots I didn't inherit from a teenaged boy, and this dress and skirt because they were very reduced - I will need new summer dresses because mine are all four sizes too big, and am really pleased with this one - Next size 16.
The skirt isn't really what I wanted (I found it when looking for a longer, looser denim one) but DD and DS2 say it looks nice so I'm keeping it... DD made me try it on with the shirt I was wearing this morning tucked in - she was pleased but DH said it looked "unfortunate" tucked in, so I won't be breaking the habits of a lifetime and starting tucking things in! DD also wants to forbid me wearing my new boots with skirts or dresses, as I'll look like "one of those people" but when I asked if she meant goths she laughed and said I couldn't look like a goth, just "one of those people who wear boots with dresses" ... Shock I'm left wondering whether its cultural ,- its quite weird having children who are part of a national mindset/ culture you live in but didn't grow up in... I shall be paying more attention to whether people locally wear boots with dresses, and may possibly sound out a couple of specific colleagues on whether its considered unusual/ fringe here or whether it's just DD's personal take! Confused

Wow! Those boots are fabulous! And that dress is gorgeous. Another thing I'd ruled out ever wearing (maxi dresses) but that looks lovely. What's the skirt made of? I like a slim fitting skirt with a swing shaped top so that outfit is very much my cup of tea.

Enjoy the perfume! Mine arrived today and it's so long since I've worn perfume, I haven't gone nose blind yet and I'd forgotten how much I love it.

A little tale of perfume: many years ago I went on holiday with a friend. She bought a new perfume at the airport on the way out and wore it for the whole fortnight. It was an absolutely brilliant holiday. A couple of years later we had a bit of a falling out and I needed to step back. A few weeks later, I kept having fond thoughts of her and re-connected with her. It took me a while to work out that a colleague of mine was wearing the same perfume and I associated the smell with good memories Smile

And thank you to you and @ParisJeTAime for your other comments Smile

This made me laugh a lot - especially imagining the people I'd see first thing at work saying it Grin

Haha oh that's funny about the boots and dresses thing...yeah, maybe that's a pretty British trend? But I do think sometimes we expect teenagers to be very fashion forward trailblazers and early adopters of new trends, but actually, I think when I was a teenager, I was quite a conservative dresser and so were most of the people I knew of the same age. Think it's the mortification factor - looking weird is a fate worse than death when you're a teenager and feeling a bit self conscious anyway. The only thing worse would be your parents looking weird, so she may be being a bit cautious and maybe you're ahead of the curve Wink

Really like the summer dress and LOVE the skirt! That is great on you!

StCharlotte the skirt is coated denim - I've never owned coated denim before - completely missed that trend although I've read about Paris's (I think it was) coated denim jeggings and the posts where others were trying similar. Its very comfortable actually but the pockets at the front are fake and the back ones smallish, and really its not (my) work suitable, so I wouldn't have bought or kept it if it wasn't so heavily reduced. Will have to wear it to the supermarket and when taking children to appointments Grin

Actually DD is starting an apprenticeship in Munich in September and wants me to do a few trial runs of the journey once her exams are over, and to come and meet her at an 'Englisch Tearooms' she's found online after college sometimes, so I can wear my "fancy" not jeans clothes for those trips!

I completely love the boots and just wore them to the post office to return the other shoes BlushGrin

That perfume story is lovely Smile smells do have strong associations don't they, perhaps more so than other senses. I hope you're still in touch with your friend?

ParisJeTAime I'm irredemably weird anyway due to my very strong English accent and frequent use of the wrong article or occassionally word when speaking German, but DD (even more weirdly) claims I'm not embarrasing. Possibly only because I tell all the kids regularly that I'm meant to embarrase them,so they're being contrary by claiming I don't Grin DD wears those paper bag trousers which I'm too old to be able to get my head around Blush but otherwise yep she's pretty conventional... Actually she's much more "proper" than I am - she loves writing thank you letters and talking about interior design and planning picnics and baking and cooking and reading Jane Austin! She's both nicer snd naicer than I am and not really an edgy teen! She's very lovely but I'm not sure how she happened Grin

She sounds wonderful until Smile. Yes, the only way not to embarrass your teen, is to say you want to embarrass them Grin.

Oh God, I got everything wrong in France. I still get things wrong in England. I'll never fit in entirely, as I'm from too many places if that makes sense 🤪. I'm at peace with it!

Lovely clothes,Hare. I think I want to be one of those people. I used to have a German friend, from Munich, and I have to say she had the worst fashion sense ever, I think Ulla popken has a lot to answer for. Have you read Elizabeth and her German garden? The English in Germany are allowed to be eccentric, trust yourself and trail blaze, this year 1 person in dresses and ankle boots, the next year 500!. I really love them. Just sent my not goth boots back and feeling very sad about it. Wearing leggings and a size 16 Seasalt tunic today. Think I’ve posted it before. But it looks better now that I’ve lost some weight.but it’s too dark for a photo. I havent been able to post on here for a few days but I have enjoyed everything, loved Stcharlottes dress yesterday.

Mothers embarrassing their children, I had a rather lovely patterned emerald green dress that I wore for school Speech day 1 year. The kids said it looked like sicked up frog( predatory cat so they did know) . I never wore it again.

StCharlotte you and your Kimono photo just got compliments on another S&B thread - one entitled Hundred Stars Kimino.

Thank you so much for the lovely comments on my purchases btw Paris,
StCharlotte , Zebracat and alphaechokiwi

Zebracat I've just ordered that book. The thing is we don't even live in Munich but in a tiny farming community. It took my next door neighbor two years to speak tonme, not because she was excluding me but because she was frightened. In the end we got to know each other well and she really helped me out when I was retraining, which is hard to do with no childcare in a community where everyone has extended family and grandparent childcarers living nextdoor or in the same house! She confided she knew what its like being an outsider - because she grew up in a town 20 miles away! Her husband's extended family haven't left the village since the middle ages that's an exaggeration, they go into the forest a lot Grin I also work for a huge employer and other employees I've never met know who I am from my accent ShockGrin Its okay, but I stick out like a sore thumb just by being Not From Round Here already without suddenly becoming a cutting edge eccentric fashionista in a sea of jeans and trainers Grin

Hare, I love the German Garden book, hope you do too. I see the issue for you, but as you take more interest in clothes, the seas will begin to part and you will be more aware of the variations and the deviations.

Morning all. Another London day. Sorry the photos are a bit shit today ( don’t look at my messy dressing room either ). I’m wearing an oversized v neck cashmere sweater from “ From Future” which was a Christmas present... navy trousers from Autograph and M&S boots pre-loved from eBay. I was going to wear with a knee length navy wool coat but decided to try this olive green faux shearling ( M&S pre loved from a charity shop) which I don’t wear and was ear marked to sell... now I’m wondering.

These trousers are a size 16 and I haven’t fitted in them for about 3 years so I’m doing a little jig inside even though the outfit is a bit meh. Hope you all have a good day. I forgot it was World Book Day and was delayed leaving because I was running around trying to whip up something for the 10 minute zoom call my DD was having.

@Divebar2021 - congratulations on getting back into your size 16s! I love your outfit, especially your boots. Very smart but practical for today's weather.
@ParisJeTAime I love the layered t-shirt look, and as always those jeans really suit your shape.
Today I'm wearing
M&S jeggings (16) - I have 3 pairs of these as I find it difficult to get jeans to fit.
Next t-shirt (14)
Brown cardigan (XL) John Lewis - I this may be one for eBay.... Brown suits my colouring much better than black or grey, but I think this is a bit too big or too long or too much somehow....

Cute outfit again @alphaechokiwi! I sort of see what you mean about the cardi. It is long. Almost like a coatigan (is that what I mean)? But I do like it. Maybe over a dress of a similar length?

Still not sure what to do with my 'to be sold' bag of clothes... maybe I'll forget about it and donate them, but some of it is nice, so wouldn't want it chucked in recycling. Will give Loopster a bit longer or might try calling them.

Morning all! It's a bit chilly here today. I'm back in the same outfit I had on yesterday plus lambswool sweater over the top. Will wear the jeans turned up over the not goth boots if we go out anywhere.

I got my AT Somerset dress and the colour doesn't really work...or the fabric. Whatever, it doesn't look great, so it's going back.

On the other hand, this wide leg, 7/8 (ish) length jumpsuit from Whistles also fell into my basket and I love it! I will probably will need different underwear as this doesn't look quite right, maybe... but I think, with the right underwear, it will be nice. It shows my arms, so I might like to do some exercise to tone them up a bit, before I unleash them in summer. But that's no bad thing. Or, you know, I'll put a tshirt underneath or wear with a cover up or something.

The jumpsuit looks fantastic! I’m trying to work out how to wear a thin summer knitted dress without getting too chilly but am struggling. I’m battling my weight / shape when I want to work with it - these are my options for today so far < but we all know I’ll panic and wear jeans a baggy tshirt>
