I bought my usual Astral cream today which I've used for 25 years.. Just dawned on me if anyone else uses retro beauty products still 😊

I am loving this thread!! I'm going to buy some Fenjal!

TheRedBalloon · 04/03/2021 09:53

Does anyone remember Exclamation perfume by Coty? It was out when I was a teenager (late 80s) I've just seen it on Amazon for about £6! Ordered!
Also Audace perfume, not the Rochas one, it was out around the same time.

BusterGonad · 04/03/2021 10:34

I had Exclamation and Tribe. I loved them both.

TheVampiresWife · 04/03/2021 20:55

I love a retro perfume, particularly cheaper ones. My favourites are Pagan, Lutece, Tweed and Avon Soft Musk, but the absolute all time winner is Coty L'aimant. I adored the creamy skin perfume in the little black bottle - I first wore it in the 80s as a teenager and was heartbroken when they discontinued it. I've a little bit left in a bottle I bought about ten years ago and it still smells perfect. The EDT is wonderful but nowhere near as good as the creamy one.

Also a fan of Nivea at night and St Ives apricot scrub twice a week. I would give anything to use St Ives' menthol deep conditioner again (the novelty of the head tingle and the pump dispenser!) and I think it's about time someone started a petition to make Rimmel bring back Black Cherries lipstick. If you were a goth in the late 80s you'll no doubt agree.

Bluesheep8 · 05/03/2021 07:08

Oh I love retro perfumes. I wear Panache and Chique all the time

I was and I do! Also, Body Shop patchouli perfume oil and Ananya oil. Nothing comes close to those - remind me of my youth Smile

PlayItCool · 05/03/2021 07:39

Where do I sign the black cherries petition?!

I fondly remember bath pearls, a lettuce peel off face mask from Boots natural collection, impulse O2 and another one (fever? It had that Peggy Lee song on the advert)

Oh and Zest (?) lemon soap, my Nan used to always have that. Camay soap was lovely too.

ZoobyZoobyDoo · 05/03/2021 09:16

Just ordered some Badedas!

Bluesheep8 · 05/03/2021 09:59

I must be retro myself then as I've used Badedas for years, I just get it from the supermarket.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 05/03/2021 20:43

I love Badedas too but only the bubble Bath as the shower gel is too thick & gloopy.
I remember Zest, lovely lemon scent occasionally I've come across it in places like Savers or Bodycare.
I used to love Camay & Lux but I haven't seen that for ages.
It's like soap has gone out of fashion (I know not on MN) as you used to get loads of different varieties & flavours when I was younger. Now it just shelf after shelf of shower gel.
I've decided to treat myself to some Fenjal next time I'm in Boots.
I remember my Auntie using it & it smelt lovely & seemed very posh. (Well I was only 7 at the time 😂)

sugarlost · 05/03/2021 22:03

Fenjal is lovely

Dugee · 05/03/2021 22:11

3 minute miracle and blue nivea - I do a lot of hiking and it's great at keeping my hard working feet soft.

Experiment627 · 08/03/2021 05:31

I did a Boots haul yesterday full of retro products!!! SO excited as I have not used any of them before!!!!!

BritInAus · 08/03/2021 06:46

This is a brilliant thread. Thanks for reminding me of the thick Nivea in a blue tin - recently lost my Nanna, she used this - so I'll buy some to remind me of her Smile

knackeredcat · 08/03/2021 14:42

Nunale nail cream! Really helps my weak/brittle nails. Teamed with Atrixo hand cream. And Chique body spray Smile

Oly4 · 09/03/2021 21:55

Blue nivea.
M&S bubble baths.. like magnolia etc. I’ve tried pricey ones and go back to these!
Juicy tubes
Body Shop shower gels

Oly4 · 09/03/2021 21:56

Oh and Clinique face soap.. I love it and always have

Experiment627 · 26/03/2021 07:51

Is the Anne French cleansing milk really really really runny or have I been sold a dud? 🧐

ShrinkingViolet9 · 26/03/2021 12:08
Is the Anne French cleansing milk really really really runny or have I been sold a dud? 🧐
Yes, Anne French Cleansing Milk is meant to be runny.

I've been using it for over 40 years. When I last looked for a bottle, it appeared to have been discontinued but I'm pleased to see that Boots, Superdrug and some other chemists are continuing to stock it.

I've still got a couple of black powder eye shadows by Biba that I bought in the 70s.

Also, a treasured Woolworths "Evette" powder shadow in "Khaki Suede" - wonderful colour and quite pigmented. Lord knows how old it is.

Used to love Tweed talc and the citrussy, "O de Lancome" spray.

ShrinkingViolet9 · 26/03/2021 12:40

My favourite lipstick was Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in shade 19. Kate Moss shade 19 (an almost matte, nude pinkish brown) has been discontinued in the UK for several years but I can sometimes find them on eBay in French packaging and stock up when I see them.

Blogger writes about Shade 19 here (in 2014):

My late mother used Vitapointe leave in conditioner and I still use it occasionally, myself, on the last few inches of my hair if it's looking a bit dry or flyaway. A tiny blob goes a long way.

Miss the large bottles of Body Shop Camomile baby shampoo which I used to use for myself in the late 80s as well as for my toddler's hair.

Orchidflower1 · 31/03/2021 14:28

I’ve just done a boots order of things I remember from my youth ( oh my I sound old) and also to try some gems you lot have recommended.

Thanks op for a fab thread.

ZaZathecat · 31/03/2021 15:43

Olay classic Beauty Fluid. I've been using it since it was called Oil of Ulay.

plinkplinkfizzer · 31/03/2021 16:01

I love this thread . Used Anne French as a teen in the 80's . I still remember the smell . Also Clearasil , do they still make it ?
I had a great make-up palette by Mary Quant oh I so miss it .
Also Le Jardin perfume bought for my Christmas , and White Satin perfume too. I do still love a bar of soap too.

Peridot1 · 01/04/2021 13:30

Love this thread.

I bought Clinique Black honey lipstick and YSL Paris perfume because of it. I used to wear Paris back in the 80s. Have it on today and I love it. Thanks for the reminder @ZednotZee!
