Considering Rhinoplasty

So I had a consultation yesterday for Rhinoplasty - I've wanted a nose job since I was 15 and at the age of 31 I am now in a position where I am able to afford one. I previously had filler in my nose which fixed my side profile, but it obviously did not really do much to narrow my wide nose which is my main area of concern.

I keep going back and forth with my decision on whether to go ahead - the surgeon I saw was great, very realistic in terms of a results and he also uses the Ultrasonic technique as opposed to the 'hammer and chisel' technique, which apparently means less bruising and a quicker recovery.

I've watched so many nose job vlogs so I feel like I sort of know what to expect in the recovery process, but a few have mentioned other side effects that worry me such as hair loss after the surgery (although temporary), spider veins becoming visible on the nose & trouble breathing.

I am also very aware that there is a 10% chance with this surgery that a revision might be needed, regardless of how skilled the surgeon is.

I would love to hear from anyone that's had it done - both good and bad experiences - particularly if you've had the Ultrasonic rhinoplasty! Aware everyone's experience is different, but I find comfort in speaking to other people who have gone through with it!

How are you now @sah168 ?

sah168 · 13/06/2021 19:47

@namechange202086 I’m doing a lot better thanks - started to get some of my breathing back the day my cast was removed last week. Still breathing though my mouth a little though as I’m very congested (i.e. snotty - sorry it’s gross!) and not being able blow my nose for another week or so is proving a little hard. Just keeping at it with the saline spray but I’m improving daily so really happy.

My tape can come off on Thursday but I changed it yesterday and the front of my nose is soooo swollen, it looks like a potato, it’s quite funny but I’m not stressed about it as I saw the photos he took on the operating table so I know it will go down, just have to be patient.

What date is your op?

@sah168 glad it's all going well. Although it's swollen can you still see the changes?

I'm the beginning of July! It seemed so far away and suddenly got so much closer. Really scared about the general anaesthetic.

sah168 · 14/06/2021 14:31

@namechange202086 oh yes it looks so much better - love my side profile, no hump and my tip has been refined. From the front it looks so much straighter and more streamlined too.

Honestly with the GA I just felt like one minute I was chatting to the nurse whilst lying on the operating table and then I just remember waking up like no time had passed. They didn't get me to do a countdown which I preferred as I think that would have made me more anxious. They should give you some medicine to calm you beforehand, they did with me, but it's really nothing to worry about Smile

How is everyone getting on now?

sah168 · 30/06/2021 13:26

@namechange202086 all good here - healing nicely but i do have a bit of uneven swelling on the side where my bridge was wider, this was also the side I bruised on as he had to do the most chiseling there.

I have my 6 week check up in 2 weeks.

Congestion gets better everyday and I'm back to sleeping on my side (albeit carefully!).

Not long till your op now?

Glad all going well @sah168 . Do you have much pain or discomfort?

My op is tomorrow afternoon. Shock Any last words of wisdom?

sah168 · 30/06/2021 23:27

@namechange202086 no pain or discomfort anymore.

Day 2 and 3 will probably be the worst in terms of discomfort but it does really get better quickly after this! The op itself will be over in a flash so don’t worry about that Smile - just try and enjoy having a restful week.

Good luck tomorrow! Let us know how it goes.

@namechange202086 how did your op go?

OP posts:
namechange202086 · 11/07/2021 23:29

@sah168 Thank for asking, op and recovery all went well. However, I really wasn't happy when they took cast off and there's a few bits I am concerned about.

Hoping it improves over the next few weeks.

sah168 · 16/07/2021 21:47

@namechange202086 oh no! Hopefully it’s just the swelling and it’s starting to look better? When I look back at photos from when I got my cast off it’s like a different nose. I’m noticing constant improvements with mine as time goes on so hopefully you’ll see the same. Did your surgeon show you a photo of your ‘finished’ nose from the operating table?

@zeddybrek how much did you pay for your rhinoplasty with Duncan and what year did you get it done. I'm looking to get surgery with him and wondered the rough costs

zeddybrek · 10/03/2022 23:49

@bambish97 hi, I'll DM you. It was exactly a year ago and it was quite technical. I really can't recommend him enough.

Hi, how are you doing now at this point? I'm in Scotland too and still on the fence after having a consultation. Would you feel comfortable saying who your surgeon was, or PMing me their name and your thoughts? Thanks!

Curiousthinker · 20/02/2023 09:36

I'm looking to get this done. In my late 30's. Based near Birmingham.

Has anyone done this recently and or in the Midlands area they can recommend?

Hopping prices will be about 6 or 7k max but need to research

Ok here you go. Still swollen and a bit upturned-looking at the moment.

Looks very good.

How is your nose now? Any additional insight would be great.

Also 6k seems a great price. What clinic did you go?
