Warm and sexy dressing gown? Is that a thing?

I need a new dressing gown. I'm fed up of looking like an extra from Shameless in the mornings. Can anyone recommend a dressing gown that will keep me warm and not add 8 dress sizes to my body shape? In an ideal world one of those lovely floaty silky numbers would do the job but sadly silk doesn't keep me warm in this house. Any ideas? Does such a thing exist?

Update! The shibumi robe has arrived (I got the sale one which had already been made I guess so no long lead times).

Beautiful fabric, not at all warm and cosy though so not entirely fitting the brief. It’s very fancy though. I think washing it will be the main issue. Test results aren’t in for that yet....

I’m 5,6 and it’s to my ankles, the fit is generous. I got a small and an a 10/12 and there is plenty of room.

Not sure if I’ve forgotten anything...

ZaraW · 10/02/2021 12:32

Mine has gone bobbly where I sit down and I haven't used it a lot in the 3 years I've had it. Will need to debobble when I can be bothered

Fontaine33 · 10/02/2021 12:59

They’re not the cashmere but they’re lovely as well and cheaper: onehundredstars.co.uk/ and
www.susannahcotton.co.uk/ Have beautiful robes. Just bought myself a Susannah Cotton one and feel like I’m in a Sunday mag supplement Smile

MsMarch · 10/02/2021 13:13

Those Shibuni ones are absolutely gorgeous. But interested to hear they are not as warm as hoped (cashmere, silk combo would have been good I thought).

I have a big(gish) birthday this year and have been telling DH for a while that a full length cashmere dressing gown is my requested gift.Budget around £250 so these would work but I need cosy and warm.

He bought me a full length one from M&S a few years ago which is actually great, but I want to upgrade! The White company used to do one but don't seem to any more so will have to research ahead of time.

MontalbanoFan · 10/02/2021 16:08

Thanks for the update, Hemlock!

Is the colour true to what’s advertised? I still covet the pale cyan, but there are one or two others that might suit.

Fontaine, I’ll take a look at those sites when I’ve got a minute.

Happy hunting, MsMarch!

Hemlock2013 · 10/02/2021 20:51

@MontalbanoFan I would say the colours are true yes. I got the cyan I think with the reversible orange side. I like the orange better so that’s the side I’m wearing! X

OneMillionSteps · 10/02/2021 22:40

I noticed you can buy fabric samples on the Shibumi website for 50p each

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 10/02/2021 22:49

[quote WagnerTheWehrWolf]I've been looking at these which are 70% cashmere/30% silk.

These are so beautiful! I’m a messy sod though, so would ruin one in a week!

Hemlock2013 · 11/02/2021 13:03

Has anyone watched the film megalodon? Rubbish but ds loved it. A lady on there is in the sick bay and she was wearing a gorgeous quilted dressing gown with a lovely pattern. I did try and find it but had no luck. Did anyone see it??

Hemlock2013 · 11/02/2021 13:08

Here it is, I may be wildly over invested in finding a warm but stylish dressing gown 😬

I'll be having two lots of surgery this year and feel very strongly that my recovery will be hugely aided by wearing a Shuibumi gown.

MontalbanoFan · 11/02/2021 20:27

Thanks again, @Hemlock, for your answer.

@OneMillionSteps, I’m going to send away for some fabric samples - pale cyan, moss rose and dragonfly green. Thanks for the tip.

I’m messy too, @ThatIsNotMyUsername, but I’m not going to mooch around the house much in mine. Oh no, it’s destined for wafting and sashaying about on cruises and other lovely holidays. (Plenty of time for making a decision, then Wink).

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 11/02/2021 21:38

I don’t have to mooch to get manky! DH always commenting on how filthy I get - I can get up, make a coffee and end up like pig pen. Apparently my current dressing gown is a bio hazard...

Phwooooar · 12/02/2021 18:13

Just came across this thread... have been eyeing up the Shibumi gowns for ages and have taken the plunge and ordered a Dragonfly Grin. I’m 5’9” - will it be ankle length or thereabouts on me??

Crapbuttrue · 12/02/2021 22:39

Which one? The cashmere or the Shibumi?
ZaraW · 13/02/2021 05:24

Shibumi has gone bobbly

Pigtailsandall · 13/02/2021 07:22

The shibumi gowns look gorgeous. I love the Venetian red. Shouldn't have clicked on the link as they have 10% off everything this weekend...

alphaechokiwi · 13/02/2021 08:06

@Hemlock2013 Toast stock a gown like that...

DrRamsesEmerson · 13/02/2021 16:09

I’ve been inspired by this thread to get the Shibumi short kimono (I’m short, so it’s knee length on me and works well over pyjamas). I got the Venetian red, which is lovely. It’s not quite warm enough for this weather but I reckon next month it will come into its own. I’m now eyeing their waistcoats...

Gurufloof · 13/02/2021 17:08

OMG those shibumi gowns. I really do covet. But I've got pets, and I'm a messy eater and how bloody much?
And dry clean only. Sheesh I shall covet from a distance. But thanks for the link anyway, I like to look and dream.

BallsToYouSue · 13/02/2021 19:10

Me looking at this thread:

"Warm, sexy, dressing gown? Hahahaha why?! Just get dressed, I mean...[opens shibumi link]...oh"

grannieali · 14/02/2021 19:21

I have skimmed the above and nobody mentions the almost total absence of really long dressing gowns I am over 5ft. 8ins and want one ankle, length.I may be having a foot op. in hospital, followed by months in plaster. I want a plain black or navy or red LONG dressing gown, not particuarly thick as hospitals and recuperation homes are always too hot..Scouring the internet has produced nothing. As the op. is at the back of a year long queue, I have plenty of time to keep looking

ouchmyfeet · 14/02/2021 19:31

Me too grannieali.

Hate them skimming my ankles Angry
