Warm and sexy dressing gown? Is that a thing?

maybenextyear · 03/02/2021 12:00

I need a new dressing gown. I'm fed up of looking like an extra from Shameless in the mornings. Can anyone recommend a dressing gown that will keep me warm and not add 8 dress sizes to my body shape? In an ideal world one of those lovely floaty silky numbers would do the job but sadly silk doesn't keep me warm in this house. Any ideas? Does such a thing exist?

Meant to say ( trying to justify) those Shibumi gowns are reversible so two for one and I can also imagine wearing them to waft around in on holiday or even in the garden during the summer.

In fact I don’t know how I have managed to live without one.

WagnerTheWehrWolf · 04/02/2021 10:59

I'm glad I've managed to expose for so many of you a sartorial gap in your dressing gown wardrobes.

Hemlock2013 · 04/02/2021 11:01

@ShangPie
I’ve bought the sale one... I slept on it and just couldn’t resist! We all deserve a bit of finery I think... x

Belindabelle · 04/02/2021 11:06

Well done @Hemlock2013. It was far too small for me.

Hemlock2013 · 04/02/2021 11:07

@Belindabelle, thank you!

This might be the best mums etc thread ever as far as I’m concerned

Movinghouseatlast · 04/02/2021 11:13

Oh my Christ I want one of those!!! I havevbeen looking for something like that for my whole life.

XingMing · 04/02/2021 11:35

They also do rather nice coats/jackets. DS has a red Nehru frock coat, bought in the sale, which looks fabulous over jeans and T shirts, with a formal shirt and trousers for a wedding, or over tux trousers for evening. He doesn't wear it all the time, but it's more versatile than you might think.

Oblomov21 · 04/02/2021 12:02

Watching with interest. I too fear shameless. But I don't want a long floaty one like the Wagner ones. They look too silky and not warm enough. I really just want a fleece blanket one I guess! But those are shameless. And not sexy.

Gwenhwyfar · 04/02/2021 12:13

@bestguesstimate

Boux Avenue does nice satin and also furry dressing gowns which don’t look slobby.
Yes, but the satin ones are not warm and the furry ones are not sexy. Seems it's not possible unless you spend hundreds.
MaryIsA · 04/02/2021 12:54

Those kimono ones are beautiful.

MarieAnneLecoeur · 04/02/2021 13:01

Bonjour maybenextyear - a warm and sexy dressing gown is perfectly possible. It is the woman inside the gown that is the sexy part of it 😉

Belinda554 · 04/02/2021 13:16

I ordered a shibumi in rose. They look stunning. Not impressed with the shipping fees though. 😬
Need to stay off style and beauty 🤦🏽‍♀️

ShangPie · 05/02/2021 02:23

@Hemlock2013 I apologise to your bank account but so glad you got it!

MontalbanoFan · 05/02/2021 11:06

This thread has given me a new lease of life! It won’t do my bank balance any good, but - no more shuffling about in grubby fleece dressing gowns I’ve had free from catalogues Blush. Shibumi is calling me.

Belindabelle, you asked what colours we would choose. Well, my colouring is Soft Autumn and I like the pale cyan. Plus I want to look like the woman modelling it. (Some hope!)

What colours normally suit you?

MontalbanoFan · 05/02/2021 11:09

Hemlock and Belinda544, let us know when your dressing gowns arrive and whether you’re pleased with them. Thanks!

MontalbanoFan · 05/02/2021 11:11

554 I meant.

TheSockMonster · 05/02/2021 11:28

Yes, can those who’ve ordered them please update when you receive them? I’m still on the fence.

I was all set to order then made the mistake of clicking on the fabric care page and am now worried that either my dog will pluck it to death when he jumps up or that it’ll be damaged by only dry cleaner that covers our area (definitely not a specialist one!)

TheSockMonster · 05/02/2021 11:34

I’m also curious to know what the sizing is like. I like a good overlap on mine so would usually go up 2 sizes from my normal dress size.

Belindabelle · 05/02/2021 12:18

@MontalbanoFan I am drawn to the Venetian Red and the Imperial Blue which surprises me as 90% of my wardrobe is navy, grey and camel. I would happily wear most of the colours to be honest.

I can’t wait to hear some real feedback.

MontalbanoFan · 05/02/2021 12:30

That Venetian Red is very striking. It would be a lovely change from your usual neutrals. Beautiful.

caperplips · 05/02/2021 16:06

I love the Imperial Blue or the green dragonfly..but strangely I'm also drawn to the coffee coloured one too..

CombFromAShoe · 05/02/2021 20:02

I have one of the Shibumi dressing gowns in Opaline (so Venetian Red on the reverse) and I love it. I'm 5 foot 6 and it comes to my ankles, so it's pretty long.

I wear it over a long sleeved tshirt and leggings in winter and feel glamourous and cosy. Much warmer than wafty cotton. Perfect lockdown loungewear!

Have done low temp delicates wash in the machine with wool deteregent, which it's handled pretty well. Main downside is no pockets.

TheSockMonster · 05/02/2021 20:08

Have done low temp delicates wash in the machine with wool detergent
That’s encouraging.

Main downside is no pockets.
That is a pain!

How delicate are they? My dog will jump up at my leg when he’s excited (like when I get up in the morning!) and I’m worried he’ll snag it terribly.

I just showed DH the one I like in the hope he’d recall in shock at the price and talk me out of it, but he thinks I’ll get a lot of wear out of it and should get one!

Belindabelle · 05/02/2021 20:56

@TheSockMonster he is most definitely a keeper.

@CombFromAShoe you are talking my language. That is exactly as I see myself wearing one. Definitely more lockdown loungewear rather than just a dressing gown.

CombFromAShoe · 05/02/2021 21:10

@TheSockMonster I don't have a dog but I'd be a bit worried about that too - the fabric isn't super delicate but I have snagged a thread with a hangnail once or twice.
