Warm and sexy dressing gown? Is that a thing?

I need a new dressing gown. I'm fed up of looking like an extra from Shameless in the mornings. Can anyone recommend a dressing gown that will keep me warm and not add 8 dress sizes to my body shape? In an ideal world one of those lovely floaty silky numbers would do the job but sadly silk doesn't keep me warm in this house. Any ideas? Does such a thing exist?

@MontalbanoFan

Thanks, Zara, for the info regarding the length. I thought they’d be on the long side when I saw the pictures of the models wearing them.

Oh well, I’ve saved myself a couple of hundred quid or more Grin.

Hate to tell you this but some of them are made to order and you can request a custom length Wink start saving!

How do those of you going for cashmere, wash it? I was my fleecy M&D dressing gown every fortnight or so. I put it on before I shower in the morning, the dogs will jump up on it/me on the morning to say hello, I may sit on the garden furniture in it, etc. It needs regular washing. Surely cashmere wouldn't withstand that?

MontalbanoFan · 03/02/2021 19:18

maybenextyear, stop tempting me lol.

Actually, I did see something about custom sizing . . . . but thought “No, I’m not going there.” Grin.

MontalbanoFan · 03/02/2021 19:19

And then I thought about moth attacks too!

Oh lord, those Shibumi dressing gowns are now my life’s ambition. And I already have both lovely Toast brushed cotton and silk velvet gowns, plus a chunky 4 ply plum cashmere, I don’t need another, but I want SO MUCH.

ShangPie · 04/02/2021 04:44

Not to enable, but there is one robe in their sale, size S, only one in stock

I have a long flannel British boxers one, what a revelation. Warm, snuggly and much sleeker than plasticky fleece ones. You never get sweaty either. Always size up to get a generous wrap-around. And really easy to wash as it’s cotton.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 04/02/2021 06:39

‘Brushed cotton’ I think they call it. The extra length makes a big difference to warmth and silhouette.

You are the devil Grin

I'm trying to tell myself that the sleeves would get wet washing face/tidying kitchen. But Lord that green dragonflies print is sooo perfect.

CherryRoulade · 04/02/2021 08:03

Cold, shivering and goosebumps are never a sexy look except on Titanic. Warm is always more appealing. It’s not the clothes that are enticing.

Stonecrop · 04/02/2021 08:03

A Velvet one from M&S is usually nice

Stonecrop · 04/02/2021 08:06

a better selection will be available in the autumn though

Skade · 04/02/2021 08:13

Never in my life did I think I would find myself saving for a dressing gown but those Shibumi ones are just amazing!

Gatekeeper · 04/02/2021 08:38

@MontalbanoFan for slight alterations suxh as altering sleeve or gown length they charge £30/35

TheSockMonster · 04/02/2021 08:42

@ZaraW

I have the shibumi cashmere/silk dressing gown. They are beautiful but not that warm.

Currently wearing an old cashmere one I bought from EBAY years ago. It was from Saks and I got it new for a great price.

How warm are they compared to a satin dressing gown or thin cotton dressing gown? And how easy are they to wash and care for?

I’m seriously tempted...

TheSockMonster · 04/02/2021 08:42

The Shibumi ones I mean.

ZaraW · 04/02/2021 08:57

They are definitely warmer than cotton.

I live in a hot country and only wear it from around March to May. I get mine dry cleaned.

MontalbanoFan · 04/02/2021 09:00

Thanks, Gatekeeper.

I’ve had yet another peek at them this morning 😍.

Those Shibumi dressing gowns are very beautiful! I don't have a dressing gown at the moment & sometimes borrow dh's which is not a great look!
I may be tempted! I love the Dragon fly or the imperial blue...I have red hair & it's lovely to see the red haired model. I'm also tall so it's great to know they're long too

Belindabelle · 04/02/2021 10:45

Oh my those dressing gowns are spectacular! I am going to treat myself to one when I lose a stone. I can’t decide which colour. What do you all like?

I also like the kimono style ones and maybe even the kaftans but fear they may be too Margo Leadbetter.

I have the Woolover merino/cashmere in light grey and can thoroughly recommend. So cosy and washes really well. I machine wash on a wool setting with some liquid wool wash. I wear it constantly between Oct-April. I am wearing it today as day wear over dark grey marl leggings and it’s just like a lovely long line cardigan.

bestguesstimate · 04/02/2021 10:48

Boux Avenue does nice satin and also furry dressing gowns which don’t look slobby.
