I know it’s said that you shouldn’t but does anyone do this ? My hair is disgusting
Day after washing it is ok and next day totally greasy again and I’ve never washed it daily but I’m spending every second and third day feeling disgusting
Dry shampoo doesn’t work

I have mega greased hair. What works for me is shampoo. Conditioner only below ears. And dry shampoo on at night. It doesn’t work for me in the morning. I have to put SHIT LOADS on each night and then it looks ok in the morning after.

needabus · 23/12/2020 15:24

Maybe I’ll try that as I was trying dry shampoo in the morning only
I just suddenly thought why am I fighting this ? Not washing it daily but feeling crap for 2 days isn’t good for me as I feel unattractive doesn’t help post baby hair loss is bad and I look disgusting

I was mine daily, I have done since I was a teenager and I'm in my 50s now. My hair is quite short so it's easy to wash & dry, and it's in good condition. If your hair gets greasy quickly I don't see any reason not to wash it daily.

ServeTheServants · 23/12/2020 15:25

Yes I wash mine daily. I went through a period during initial lockdown where - for the first time in my life - I left it to every other day, but apparently bad habits die hard as I’m back to daily!

Northernsoullover · 23/12/2020 15:27

I have to. My hair is so greasy by the next morning that if I brush it, it sticks to my scalp. I have been trying the dry shampoo at night trick and it does work. Before anyone suggests I need to leave it for ages between washes and it will balance itself out I suggest you have never had hair as greasy as mine!

lynsey91 · 23/12/2020 15:28

I am 66 and have washed my hair every day since I was around 14.

I have short hair now but used to have quite long hair. Hairdressers comment what good condition my hair is in.

I know quite a few hairdressers say you should not wash your hair every day but mine says people wash their faces every day so why not their hair?

Talisin · 23/12/2020 15:28

I have had to wash my hair daily since I was a teen, my hair is still perfectly fine (just oily). Smug people who say ‘Oh, I’ve trained my hair to not need washing that often. What you do is...’ really get on my wick because great, it worked for you, it doesn’t work for everyone no matter what you think. Some hair needs washing every day, it just does.

Roominmyhouse · 23/12/2020 15:28

I wash my hair daily, it looks ok on the second day sometimes but I just feel greasy when I don’t wash it!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/12/2020 15:30

Try a shampoo brush too, it gets hair so much cleaner.

needabus · 23/12/2020 15:32

I just hate the feeling plus it’s long I feel like
Chopping a whole lot off and starting to wash it daily just to feel better

Like others, I've washed my hair daily since I was a teenager. All of my family do and tbh I wouldn't feel clean and fresh if I didn't wash it in the shower each morning. Admittedly the drying and styling each day can be annoying but I'm certainly used to it!

ElspethFlashman · 23/12/2020 15:33

Yeah I would be a daily person if it wasn't for dry shampoo.

Been like that since I was 14 and now I'm 45 so I'm pretty sure it's going to be like that forever. Only time it changed was when I was pregnant with DS and even then I only got an extra day out of it. But it was bliss all the same!

People who don't have greasy hair don't get it. "Oh but washing your hair every say is Sooooo Bad for it! Why don't you just train your hair?" Hmm

As if it's that simple to reset your hair!

But agree that dry shampoo has to be put on at night BEFORE it gets minging. That's the trick. Stops it getting minging in the first place, and you won't need much at all. A few quick spritzes.

Once it has gotten minging it takes a quarter of a bloody can to leave the house and you look dusty and itchy for the rest of the day.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 23/12/2020 15:34

I washed mine every day until about 2 years ago (I'm 37, if that's relevant) - I have horribly oily roots after a day.

Dry shampoo at night and first thing the next morning tides me over. I tend to wash it every 2-3 days now, but by day 2 I usually wear my hair up or it turns into an oil slick very quickly.

Only issue with dry shampoo is it leaves my scalp itchy after a while - I use clarifying shampoo, but it's still annoying!

MamaMoonbeam · 23/12/2020 15:35

I have waist length hair and use water only to wash my hair! I love it but it doesn't suit everyone. I wouldn't dream of every day washing as it would destroy my length

JorisBonson · 23/12/2020 15:36

I've always washed my hair every day. It's super fine and goes flat and greasy really quickly. My hair is in really good condition so it doesn't seem to have done me any harm.

KatharinaRosalie · 23/12/2020 15:43

yes, every day. Hot water is available so I don't see a reason to suffer 2-3 days with oily itchy scalp. However, I have fine hair that dries in 2 minutes, so that's not an issue for me.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/12/2020 15:48

When I was on roaccutane I only had to wash weekly. It was brilliant.

BigusBumus · 23/12/2020 15:54

I have really greasy hair too, which used to smell bad as well when i was a teenager, not so much now. But i am 50 and still would have to wash it daily if i was going out anywhere. I can leave it dirty for the middle day, as long as i put it up somehow. Its long and curly and i straighten it daily too and it takes real effort hence leaving it to every other day now.

MNBookNerd · 23/12/2020 15:57

I have waist length hair and was wedded to washing daily pre lockdown. Once I realised you couldn't really tell the difference on zoom, I swapped daily washing for an extra lie-in. Gradually my hair has adjusted and now you really can't see a difference between day 1 and day 2. I can squeeze an extra day out of a wash by putting it in a ponytail if needed too. I only ever condition the ends and use a sulfate and silicone free shampoo too which helps too I think - if I use anything that claims to 'add shine' my hair will look horrendously greasy after just a few hours.

Me too Joris. I'm in and out of the shower in 5 minutes, takes 4 mins to dry. I like having shiny clean hair every day, feels weird otherwise.
Franticbutterfly · 23/12/2020 16:54

I have washed my hair every day (pretty much) for 30 years, if I don't, I get super greasy locks (weirdly my skin isn't greasy at all). I have it highlighted by the hairdresser and is always in good condition. I would love it if I could go longer between washes but I just can't. Not washing hair every day is not a one size fits all prescription.

Coffeepot72 · 23/12/2020 17:04

I have washed my hair every day since my teens. It looks awful if I don’t wash it every morning and this is the only way I can achieve semi-decent looking hair

Blowingagale · 23/12/2020 17:11

I wash my hair daily. It ms short but curls and looks bad in the morning. Id need to spray loads of water to be able to brush it that I need to dry my neck so just do it in the shower.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/12/2020 17:14

I wash my hair daily. I always have. Its my best feature and longish (just past my shoulders) and wavey and fine. It looks good if it dries naturally, and its ok the second day if I can't wash it (I do nights on call on site at work and morning shower is managable but fast in case something kicjs off, so I don't wash my hair there) but greasy and lank on the rare occassions Ive left it 3 days.

I just wash it - no conditioner, no product of any kind - snd let it dry naturally and it looks better than if I mess about with it.

I think it depends on your hair type and one thing isn't right for everyone.

SnackBitch2020 · 23/12/2020 17:21

I don't think there's anything wrong with washing your hair daily if you need to? How is it meant to be "bad" for your hair?

I have greasy hair and wash it every day and my hair is in good condition, not damaged. I use a "greasy" hair shampoo and a "rich" conditioner on the ends.

I am always envious of people who can go 3+ days between washes though!
