What the hell can I do with my hair?

Please excuse the terrible selfie, stern and lighting - don’t think I’ve ever taken a selfie before on purpose 😂 Have NC so it’s not linked to my other posts but hello if you know me!

Just paid out for a haircut earlier this week and yet again I hate it. No matter what I think of when I go in, I leave with the same haircut. I’ve had a very stressful year and suddenly look very old and feel like this haircut makes me look even older.

Please tell me what would suit me, o wise ones? I’ve just washed it and dried it, I hate it and will now wear my hair up until my next hair cut when the cycle will start again.

My hair is quite wavy if left to dry naturally. Would love something I don’t have to do much to, but not sure that’s possible with my hair. I want something more interesting than the same boring layers.

Oh and I forgot the awful photo after all that! My face says it all really 😂

It's not too bad.. I would go for a fringe and a bunch of conditioner.

bellagogosdead · 19/12/2020 15:49

Like Linda Cardellini

SirVixofVixHall · 19/12/2020 15:51

You don’t look old ! You have a lovely face and very nice hair, but the style looks slightly dated and a like a very standard cut, rather than something which has been done to suit your face and personality . I would try a different hairdresser next time, and maybe try something new, you could for all one length maybe ?

SelfieNameChange · 19/12/2020 15:51

Oh I use so much conditioner, masques etc - you should see it without it.

I would love a fringe but not sure I could pull one off or what type - any time I’ve mentioned it to a hairdresser they’ve pulled that face

I think a fringe would suit you

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 19/12/2020 15:52

I agree that it needs deep conditioning to give it some shine, but your hair is nice and thick. Perhaps curl it a bit?

I’ll let real hair experts weigh in, but it’s not as bad as you think! I wish my hair was as thick as yours.

TreacleHart · 19/12/2020 15:53

Hi and I don't know you ! 😂😂
Your hair looks lovely and full and in quite good condition. What did you ask for ?
We don't know the length before your haircut, but honestly , to me looking at your hair I wouldn't think you've had much done other than a trim.

QuentinWinters · 19/12/2020 15:54

Have you washed it and dried it yourself since it was cut? I never get styled by the hairdresser cos i always hate it!
I'd get it cut into a different shape layer probably and maybe some golden brown highlights

fruitpastille · 19/12/2020 15:54

It's very similar to my hair but I think yours looks better! I've tried a fringe but it's a pain to get it to lie straight so I always end up growing them out.

SelfieNameChange · 19/12/2020 15:54

I went to a different hairdresser this time and paid for their top stylist - it doesn’t matter where I go, I leave with this exact haircut. It’s weird. So I guess I need an actual photo to point at but can never tell what would work.

I agree that you don't look old, and have lovely. I do think the hairstyle looks dated, and you could probably go for less layers next time but it's really not a horrible look.

peboh · 19/12/2020 15:56

Lovely hair* bloody phone.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 19/12/2020 15:56

I agree with Quentin re. some golden brown highlights. The color is abit monotone.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 19/12/2020 15:57

I think there is an app where you can try different hair styles and colours
You've given me food for thought because I have the same hairstyle, and it feels like I've had it for 100 years!

Spied · 19/12/2020 15:58

I don't think it's bad.
I do think it's lacking definition somehow.
I think you need to play around with product. Rather than conditioner (makes my hair wispy), could you try some putty, wax and such-like. Add definition and make it look more modern.

GVmama · 19/12/2020 15:58

I think it looks lovely, the layers give it some volume and body and the colour suits you. I wonder if you’re feeling bleh generally and taking it out on your hair?
I have similar hair and I once had a wonderful haircut similar to the infamous Meg Ryan haircut, quite short but full of layers so I could just swish my hands through it and go in the morning. It was amazing but I haven’t been able to recreate it since.

QualityFeet · 19/12/2020 16:01

Go short
You usually wear it up, have a great face and good hair. Find something short and stylish and have an easy and funkier time.

HarrietPotterska · 19/12/2020 16:04

This stunning lady is grey, but I think this style would look gorgeous on you

What the hell can I do with my hair?
SelfieNameChange · 19/12/2020 16:12

Thank you everyone, I appreciate you making me feel better! I hadn’t had my hair cut since early this year so it was a mess. I never know what to ask for and always ask hairdressers what they think so I guess that’s why they always give me the same boring haircut! I would love to go to someone who can figure out what would work.

I’m terrified of short hair as I feel my face is too fat / saggy and not very soft so I worry I would look a bit manly!

That is such a cool haircut - I need to be braver 😬

Oh and I haven’t coloured my hair for years and years, have gone red or lighter in the past so I could probably do with some colour too, mask the greys starting to pop up!

Why not play with one of the apps that lets you upload a photo of yourself and then virtually 'try on' masses of different styles?

MoltonSilver · 19/12/2020 19:04

I like the cut. I think changing the colour is the way to go

SelfieNameChange · 19/12/2020 19:16

I just don’t think the shape suits me - the shorter layers make my face look wider I think because of where they fall. To be honest I never think very hard about my hair but I’m trying to take better care of myself - I’ve sorted out my skin, trying to lose weight and now it’s my hair’s turn.

The biggest bummer for me with it is there’s no shorter bits around my face for when I put my hair up. Maybe I should just say fuck it and get a proper fringe whether it suits me or not!

Yes I might have to try those apps. Do they look hilarious though or reasonably good? Could be a fun game after some wine 😬
