How old is too old for bright eyeshadow?

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 18/12/2020 21:06

Just that really.

I turn 30 in February and whilst I don't wear bright colours every day, there are times when I just think sod it and do a colourful eyeshadow look. Like today I woke up feeling a bit down so I cheered myself up by doing a glittery green eye look Smile.

I know I shouldn't care what people think but I am starting to worry people will think I am too old for the fun colours Blush.

How many of you still wear a pop of colour occasionally and how old are you?

Age never stopped Barbara Cartland..

depends on what you think suits you, how bright you thinking? Personally I wear all colours but prefer Matt to shiny and blend in a few shades of the same colour

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 19/12/2020 00:24

Different shades tbh. I like lime greens and darker greens. Either way it is defintley not a subtle eye look.

Eh, I'm 42 and have no intention of giving it up any time soon

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 19/12/2020 00:25

You're fine, I'm 40s and have just started toning mine down

Toototwo · 19/12/2020 00:48

Once it just slides into the wrinkles and you can't tell what colour eyeshadow you have on anyway

thedevilinablackdress · 19/12/2020 09:01

NO! You must only wear tasteful muted shades now.
Really, wear what you like. Bright neon eyeliner was one of my small joys this year. I'm late 40s.

VerbenaGirl · 19/12/2020 09:08

Never too old!

TheProvincialLady · 19/12/2020 09:15

You need to challenge this mindset. Each and every time you think “What age do I need to stop doing x or y,” say to yourself “I will do x or y until I either don’t want to or physically can’t do it any more.” It’s just ingrained sexism and ageism.

Floisme · 19/12/2020 09:31

Oh. I only opened this because I thought it was about whether eye shadow can accentuate crinkly eyelids. I'm afraid that if you're looking for some hand holding because you're nearly 30 then I am not that person. But I'm sorry you're feeling down, and anything that cheers you up that's legal, not addictive and harmless to others sounds good to me.

Tehmina23 · 19/12/2020 13:00

Well I am 44 and recently bought my first Urban Decay eyeshadow which is a pinky gold & have had compliments.

You are only 30! Wear the bright colours!

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 19/12/2020 18:31

30???!! P’LEASE!

Do what you want at any age but...30?!

Craftycorvid · 19/12/2020 18:37

My ma had a chum in her 80s who rocked bright green eyeshadow and had an interest in a nice looking chap when she saw one. More power there, say I!

professionalnomad · 19/12/2020 18:49

I'm 38 and i rock bright glittery eyeshadow most days. I don't think it's age, it's whatever brings you joy

AJTracey · 19/12/2020 18:52

Death

violetbunny · 19/12/2020 19:04

I'm 39 and wear bright colours, glitter etc all the time. It doesn't have to be full on colour, sometimes I'll just do a pop of brightly coloured liner.

This lady is a lot older than me and is seriously rocking blue eyeshadow: www.beautylish.com/a/vzgug/wayne-goss-on-fighting-ageism-in-the-beauty-industry

FanSpamTastic · 19/12/2020 20:35

I'm 50 and wore bright blue the other night because I thought life is too short and sod it!!

Whyohwhydididothat · 19/12/2020 20:59

Christ it saddens me that people think there’s an age limit what makes them happy!

Ok, I’m 28 but I regularly wear full on glitter eyeliner to do the food shop. I also don’t do day make up and night make up Confused. Quite frankly I love make up and want it to look the best of my ability every time I go out.

Muddybuddy · 19/12/2020 21:03

I click on these threads and always regret it.
I’m always expecting the op to be much older but they’re always so young!! Can I wear this at...30 is just depressing. What am I supposed to wear in my 40’s? Some kind of smock to cover up and draw no attention to myself? Just wear it if you like it op

Minky37 · 19/12/2020 21:08

I’m 44 and I love a lilac & purple eyeshadow, no intention in stopping anytime soon.

Seventytwo · 19/12/2020 21:35

A thousand times this:

You need to challenge this mindset. Each and every time you think “What age do I need to stop doing x or y,” say to yourself “I will do x or y until I either don’t want to or physically can’t do it any more.” It’s just ingrained sexism and ageism.

hoxt · 19/12/2020 21:46

Just bought a beautiful neon blue eye pencil thanks to this thread 👍🏽. I’m 45 & have zero intention of stopping wearing things that make me happy.

PimlicoJo · 19/12/2020 22:12

I clicked on this as I'm in my 50s and I thought it would be from someone of a similar age. Wear what you like! At any age, but especially at 30. Seriously, you're young and gorgeous. You shouldn't be worrying about things like this.

Deathraystare · 20/12/2020 15:46

I am 60 and although I normally (out of laziness) normally just go with a fairly neutral eye, I much prefer colour and love greens! When I go out I do wear bright colours often. I don't (yet) have crepey eye lids. Sometimes I just wear a brightly coloured kohl pencil.

bakereld · 20/12/2020 15:49

OP, whether you're 80 or 20, wear whatever the hell you want, and do your make up however the hell you like. You have one life to live! Live it how you want.

You need to challenge the sexist mindset that women are too 'old' for things past a certain age.
