How old is too old for bright eyeshadow?

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 18/12/2020 21:06

Just that really.

I turn 30 in February and whilst I don't wear bright colours every day, there are times when I just think sod it and do a colourful eyeshadow look. Like today I woke up feeling a bit down so I cheered myself up by doing a glittery green eye look Smile.

I know I shouldn't care what people think but I am starting to worry people will think I am too old for the fun colours Blush.

How many of you still wear a pop of colour occasionally and how old are you?

Argh another person who reads these threads expecting them to be 70 or something and they say much younger than me . Do people really think you suddenly become ancient at 30 -40 , so depressing . I’m nearly 40 and still wear what the hell I like .

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 21/12/2020 01:56

Haha think it will be green eyeshadow every day from now until Christmas then Grin.

I am over 70, and wear eye shadow , not vivid colours, but subtle colours, and I don't look like a drag queen.

ichifanny · 25/12/2020 16:05

Totally have at it , I love bright eyeshadow .

TomasinaTiers · 25/12/2020 16:11

I am picturing you like Sophie Ellis Bextor in Murder on the Dance Floor

That’s the look I’d love

Echobelly · 25/12/2020 16:19

30, LOL, wear what you like love. You're not actually a withered old hag like 43 years old me yet.

In fact I'm not a withered old hag yet either and I'll wear what the fuck I like.

cravingthelook · 25/12/2020 16:22

Death

Ooh. That was a happy 4 minutes. Bloody love SEB.

Stunning look, but I’d possibly consider toning it down if you’re 107 or older.
I'm 39 and wear bright colours, glitter etc all the time. It doesn't have to be full on colour, sometimes I'll just do a pop of brightly coloured liner.

This lady is a lot older than me and is seriously rocking blue eyeshadow: www.beautylish.com/a/vzgug/wayne-goss-on-fighting-ageism-in-the-beauty-industry
She looks great , i fully intend to look like that at that age !
Anyone can look stylish , age is irrelevant .

Gogreengoblin · 25/12/2020 16:42

@thedevilinablackdress

NO! You must only wear tasteful muted shades now. Really, wear what you like. Bright neon eyeliner was one of my small joys this year. I'm late 40s.
Where did you get the neon eyeliner from? I've got some bright Barry M ones but I'd be up for looking for more
thedevilinablackdress · 25/12/2020 20:16

Lol @gogreengoblin it is the very same!
I also got a nice Very Bright eyeshadow palette from Revolution too.

Spaceprincess · 25/12/2020 21:17

Nearly 50, wear what I like including neon pink and orange eye shadow

zaphodbeeble · 25/12/2020 21:22

Nearly 50, have purple hair and gold eyeshadow. Don’t give 2 shits what anyone else thinks, wear what makes you happy

thatsgotit · 29/04/2021 19:51

This thread makes me happy. I'm 53 and wear bright/shimmery eye shadow most days.

Basically I have the same views on makeup as I do on clothes etc - age is irrelevant. I still have long hair and a nose piercing and somewhat rock-chicky clothes. Some people probably think I'm trying too hard (in fact a former friend was always trying to hint as much to me, 'no woman over 40 should have hair past her shoulders' apparently Hmm ) but do I care? Not a jot.

Germolenequeen · 29/04/2021 20:01

You are never ever too old for bright ANYTHING 😉

AnnieSnap · 30/04/2021 18:24

@TheProvincialLady

You need to challenge this mindset. Each and every time you think “What age do I need to stop doing x or y,” say to yourself “I will do x or y until I either don’t want to or physically can’t do it any more.” It’s just ingrained sexism and ageism.
Absolutely, with one or two exceptions of those outfits that only teenagers can get away with. Anything trashy looks worse on an older women (I’m talking 50+) than younger ones. I’m 61 and wear what I like, most of which is ‘on trend’. I just avoid very short skirts, lurex etc! 😂🤣
LieLikeALoungeroomLizard · 30/04/2021 18:29

Never too old

TheFallenMadonna · 30/04/2021 18:30

I'm 50 and love a strong eyeshadow with my silver hair.

MindBodyChocolate · 30/04/2021 18:36

30??!! I mean this kindly but give your head a wobble :) Wear whatever colors you want, forever.

As my skin has aged I’ve moved more towards creams rather than powders but haven’t dialed down my palette of colours.

Livpool · 30/04/2021 18:39

I wear more colours on my eyes and a neutral colour on my lips. I love a smoky eye

Runway · 30/04/2021 18:43

Growing older is not going to be a fun experience for you if you worry so much about rubbish like this. Wear what you want

GintyMcGinty · 30/04/2021 18:47

@justawoman

Love that link. Thanks for sharing.

Crappyfridays7 · 30/04/2021 18:51

100 is not too old if you want to get colourful

I’m 42, whilst I don’t wear sparkly unless I’m going out, I still wear greens, purples, reds/plummy colours if the mood takes me & have time. Same with clothes, I just wear what I like.
