If offered one for a Christmas present? Healthy budget.

I like the look of Cartier Tank watches but I can't be arsed with quartz at that price point. I think they're lovely looking but I wouldn't spend X thousand pounds on a battery operated watch.

Because women's watches are smaller you get fewer manual/auto watches but they are worth seeking out I think.

Thischarmlessgirl · 13/12/2020 11:06

I have a Cartier Tank and love it Smile

NotYourHolidayDick · 13/12/2020 11:14

I’ve got a James Cameron, Hulk and Pepsi, all Rolex. I really don’t like the ladies versions, and don’t care what other people think so wear what I like Grin

You can’t really compare Tags or Longines to Rolex/Cartier/PP.

But you won’t be able to buy a Rolex from an AD without a relationship and purchase history with them. You may luck out with a day date or Airking, but otherwise you’re going to be stuck with the grey market. No idea what Cartier availability is like.

Annasgirl · 13/12/2020 11:24

I have the Cartier Tank and have had it and worn it daily for 11 years - I love it. It goes with everything and really is the only watch you will ever need. Mine is Stainless Steel.

This is my Ebel

I have a Jaeger lecoultre reverso, tis a thing of beauty
Love Cartier tank too

sounds as tedious as getting vetted for a rescue dog. Who knew???

NotYourHolidayDick · 13/12/2020 11:41

Yes tedious, but for example, I bought my Hulk in 2014 for £6050. I’m now repeatedly offered £14000 for it. So not only can I wear my watches daily, and enjoy them, they are also an appreciating asset which will be used in future years to settle the mortgage. So it’s a win win.

NotYourHolidayDick · 13/12/2020 11:43

Forgot I had this one too, it just stays unworn at the moment. Another seadweller similar to JC but a bit smaller.

What’s an AD? Do you think it will be hard to walk into a jeweller amd buy a tank? I’m clueless!

and why would a jeweller not sell to a customer? It don't get it he rational. It's am object after all....If you have the money, what would stop someone from closing the sale?

NotYourHolidayDick · 13/12/2020 12:59

Ad is an authorised dealer. Rolex don’t make enough sports models to supply demand. You very rarely see them in shop windows any more, I’m on a waitlist for a Daytona at the moment, and am not expecting the call until at least 2022.

No idea regarding other brands. But most popular Rolexes just don’t exist off the shelf.

Madbengalmum · 13/12/2020 13:04

Really depends on your budget as to what you would choose. Sadly, most watches you would want from an investment point of view cannot be bought easily anyway.
I now have my dream watch collection, which i would not be able to easily buy today.

NotYourHolidayDick · 13/12/2020 13:08

The JC is ridiculous now I’m looking at all these other watches. The size of it 😂

mrscampbellblackagain · 13/12/2020 18:06

The jeweller I bought my patek from said here is now a 10 year waiting list for my watch, which is good for the value of mine but not so good if you want to buy one.

However, I do think that sometimes waiting to get things adds to their value. Rather like a birkin Wink

mrscampbellblackagain · 13/12/2020 18:07

I would be surprised if you couldn't get a cartier tank fairly easily though. Their numbers aren't as restricted as patek.

MrsPerfect12 · 13/12/2020 19:07

Have a look at chopard. They have lovely watches, they have a collection that is like Cartier classics - it is slightly more expensive but also elegant and in a softer way. Hope that makes sense.

Onedropbeat · 13/12/2020 19:14

I love an Omega Seamaster 300 Midsize automatic - blue face

I’d also be very happy with a Cartier Tank

I currently have Tag Heuers and they are bomb proof so well worth the money

I’ve only tried on Omegas and Tags but assume the quality would be same if not better

Alternatively- if looking at men’s styles especially if you like some Rolex’s is Christopher Ward

They have gone up in price over the years but still very good value for money based on the quality and mechanics

Crownofthorns · 13/12/2020 19:16

I have a Cartier Panthere in two tone steel and gold and love it - it ties together my jewellery in yellow and white metals nicely. I also love the Tank Solo in yellow gold with leather strap. It really depends on your style and taste outside budget constraints. Make sure you get something that you love rather than buying something because other people think its worth it. I am not a fan of Rolex but love Cartier watches, so the fact my Panthere is a quartz model is irrelevant to me, I just adore the style.

Bellsandwhistle · 16/12/2020 18:37

So.....been shopping smd got a Cartier tank francais. Preferred the bracelet on it to the tank solo amd ronde solo. Had a swerve to the ballon bleu but choose the tank francais as I prefer the simple clean lined and symmetry of it. Very happy !
