General beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread

Like many others, I’m looking forward to starting my Beauty Advent Calendars on Tuesday. With no M&S calendar or thread this year, I thought it might be fun to have a general beauty advent calendar discussion and swap thread. I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts about the calendar they are opening, whatever it is.

I suggest though we comment only on content from current or previous days, so as not to spoil the surprise for those opening one day at a time.

@CoolCatTaco

I opened my Rituals one this morning to get...nothing! Empty space where the gift should have been. Xmas Sad Had a poke around but it doesn't look like it could have got dislodged, I would be able to see or feel it.
That's terrible. Contact them and they will hopefully send you a replacement item.

@BuffaloMozzerella

How does a reusable ear bud work?
I'm not sure that's a question I want to know the answer to.
AprilLady · 16/12/2020 10:34

@BuffaloMozzerella, amazing that your LF calendar has also arrived.

@FlyingByTheSeatof, I’m currently using that Twilly perfume which I think is from the JL calendar a couple of years ago. I really like it.

I'm stumped by the ear bud, TBH. It's plastic and bumpy so no good for drying your outer ear, or fixing make up mistakes, which is what I usually use cotton buds for and it comes with strict instructions not to insert into the ear canal.
I guess if you have very waxy outer ears it would be useful for that? I'm quite tempted to use it on the cat's ears but I don't think he'd appreciate it.

ajandjjmum · 16/12/2020 10:48

So Buffalo - when are you opening your LF calendar?

And could also result in a visit to A&E...

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 16/12/2020 11:00

Yeah, don't worry, the cat is safe! He just has the most disgusting ears but I'm not going to risk hurting him. I'll just find another use for the bud.

It's a shame as some kind of reusable thing for fixing make up would have been useful!

I was more concerned for your safety than the cat's Xmas Grin

Oh, I see now! Haha! Xmas Grin

Yay Buffalo and Ochon for the LF calendars. Sorry not been posting, but liking my LF stuff do far. Dd has the H&B one so today's is a bit duff but it has mostly been good and great value I think.

I am using the serum from LF as I got it in the goody bag with my
Lumene calendar (same one as Ochon I think) and I love it!

Yes, I got that too. Once I figured out how to open it, I found it good.
BuffaloMozzerella · 16/12/2020 11:48

@ajandjjmum I opened it within about 3 minutes of receiving it! I've had enough of waiting!

Talisin · 16/12/2020 12:10

@BuffaloMozzerella so glad for your new arrival of little Aisling/Eimear/Brendan/Doran!

@GaryTheDemon I think you should pitch it to Ladybird. If it sells then you could put a dedication to the MN advent thread at the beginning Xmas Grin]

Anyway, today from Fenwicks I got six perfume testers from Maison Matine. I’ve tried one (can’t remember which) and it’s lovely but subtle. It also comes with a leaflet which tries very hard to recreate a wanky Christmas perfume ad in text, so I give you: ‘Into the Wild’ - Feel a deep connection with an unknown & vibrant nature. ‘Warni Warni’ - Our world is an open playground. Diversity is our rules. Sharing is our game. ‘Espirit De Contradiction’ - No more compromise. Defend your beliefs, find inner & outer balance. ‘Avant L’Orace’ - Experience a paradoxical & suspended feeling. ‘Hasard Bazar’ - We now dare to challenge our horizons, test new things, mix the opposites. ‘Bain de Midi’ - Let’s feel alive, enjoy new things, live with lightness & simplicity.

@GaryTheDemon could do a collaboration with that copy writer for her ladybird book.

Six perfumes sounds great. Lovely way to try new ones.

I can't tell you just how disappointed I feel when there is a black eyeliner dud gift in an advent calendar-ridiculous I know in the great scheme of things.

Hurrah for the advent calendars finally making it to their destinations.

@Talisin I think someone's been on a creative writing course! I sometimes like to amuse myself by reading descriptions utter twaddle give for 'fashion forward' items on Selfridges website

Anyway, rather liking the perfume in the JL calendar today.

I am still awaiting the dreaded black eyeliner, I am even beginning to hope that it doesn’t appear at all!

Perfumewise, I am def going to try Avant L’Orace next. I really want to experience the ‘paradoxical & suspended feeling’ promised Xmas Grin

Bumbl · 16/12/2020 14:02

Sorry I don't know if anyone has updated about the ASOS calendar today, but if not it's a Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate.... sounds very grand!

A perfectly normal reaction to one of life's minor tragedies.

BookShark · 16/12/2020 15:09

Bumbi I'm using the Shiseido at the moment and really like it - mine's only a small one from a GWP but it seems really nice and something is definitely considering buying in future if I didn't have 20 other serums to use first

FlyingByTheSeatof · 16/12/2020 16:39

I had look at the Shiseido products a few weeks ago when Boots started selling them so I'm interested to know how you get on with it. It's quite pricey £££.

Talisin · 16/12/2020 17:22

Update on Living Proof shampoo for @CupboardMonster. It’s OK, I don’t think it’s any more enbiggening than my usual Elvive Fibrology shampoo but it does leave it feeling silkier. I wouldn’t mind continuing to use it but I’m not prepared to pay £23 a bottle for the privilege!

CupboardMonster · 16/12/2020 17:32

Thank you @Talisin I appreciate the product testing Smile

clary · 16/12/2020 19:10

Actually having caught up with DD, she loves today's H&B offering, it's reusable so she approves and she loves the little case!
