Alternative to North Face puffa jacket

Thisismynewname123 · 20/11/2020 12:48

If your teen wanted a North Face puffa, but no way am I spending £200/250 on her, is there a decent alternative in more like the £60 price range? It doesn't matter if it's not quite as warm, as long as it's warm enough for a London winter, has a hood, and looks similar to the North Face one. The best I can find is from Uniqlo, but it doesn't seem to have a hood

My niece who is 13 got a nf for £110 I'll search it for you

Thisismynewname123 · 20/11/2020 12:53

Thanks @nevernotstruggling but I don't think I can bring myself to spend £140 on her either!

This is nice I might see if dd1 wants that one

timeforanewstart · 20/11/2020 13:06

Unfortunately at that age its often the brand they want more than the jacket , but they are expensive
Bought my ds one for £100 from outlet centre
How desperate is she for north face or just a padded coat ? Maybe if more about brand you could get good condition one 2nd hand

timeforanewstart · 20/11/2020 13:07

The one above is nice for £90

Thisismynewname123 · 20/11/2020 13:08

@timeforanewstart She knows and accepts that I won't spend that. She said to me that she wants a jacket like the North Face one, because she knows that it's too expensive.

You're missing the point a bit. Teens want brands. Is there a cheaper North Face coat but might be less warm for example.

iwantavuvezela · 20/11/2020 13:09

They have these in ebay for around £50 - i know as I have ordered one for teen DD. They seem to be legitimate, i know ebay doesnt allow you to advertise "fakes" , they are from the UK - I'll report back when we get it to let you know!

Thisismynewname123 · 20/11/2020 13:11

@nevernotstruggling Thanks for the second suggestion. I would have considered going up to £90 (as it's NF brand, and especially if it was one I could share with her Smile ) but that one's in the junior range, so won't fit her. She wears a woman's size 10.

@AnnaFiveTowns I have a very lovely, sensible 14 year old dd, who although obviously wants the brand (seeing as she brought it up) she also is not nagging me for something that she knows I'm unwilling to spend. Obviously she would be overjoyed if I decided to splash out on the NF one for her, but she is not expecting me to, and she has said as much to me.

@iwantavuvezela thanks for the suggestion. I will check ebay

Fabellini · 20/11/2020 13:14

I’m not sure if it would be “puffa” enough, but Superdry have some good reductions on down jackets like this

Thisismynewname123 · 20/11/2020 13:17

@iwantavuvezela do you think these would real, and acceptable to a 14 year old?

@Fabellini Thanks, but she wants black to wear for school

Mine said this last year. I got her a toyshop one in the black friday sale. She loved it.

iwantavuvezela · 20/11/2020 13:19

@@oh bugger. Though I should have known as my 11 year old is now a women's size 6/8!!! Sam. You cat! There was a nice Jack Willa puffs I'll link you

www.jackwills.com/piper-hooded-padded-jacket-663561

I keep meaning to show this to dd1. I think it's reasonable in the sale price and in all the sizes. Dd1 and my 13 year old niece really like Jack Wills gear.

Hadalifeonce · 20/11/2020 13:34

DD has just bought a second hand one online. I was very dubious, but it has arrived and is in excellent condition. You wouldn't know it was used.

nevernotstruggling · 20/11/2020 13:39

Just to throw a spanner I was v disappointed with my north face parka the stuffing fell out. Also I bought a lonely light longline puffa from mountain warehouse last year. It's actually falling apart now. I paid £50 and I thought ah well I might not like the style. I love the style and wish I'd spent another £50 on better quality it's awful!!

Mcnotty · 20/11/2020 13:42

OP I could’ve written your post word for word, except I did a few yrs ago. The replies I got were very similar if not more aggressive than these ones along the lines of, not buying Teen DC a north face jacket was akin to child abuse. They would be traumatised at school by their peers and ridiculed and die of shame. Do I want this for my dcHmm? My suggestion of cheaper but good quality brands were met with further derisory comments and ‘No teen will be seen dead in THAT!’.

In the end I abandoned the thread and scouted around a bit more, we found a Superdrug puffer jacket for £65. DS loves it! and it’s lovely and warm.

Thisismynewname123 · 20/11/2020 13:51

@nevernotstruggling The Jack Wills looks nice. I'll show her that one but not sure she'll like the shininess of the black version.

@Srictlybakeoff Thanks for the links. I'll show her this one in Mountain Warehouse
