Gucci belt - matte or shiny?

SunshineOverStress · 14/11/2020 14:21

So I know this isn’t to everyone’s taste but I have got a Gucci belt but I ordered two, one matte one shiny, and I am so stuck on which one to keep!! I have had such mixed opinions, the matte one looks more classy and would probably go with more but the shiny one definitely stands out more but I’m also worried if it would scratch more? But the shiny one was also only released last year.
I’m 29 if that makes any difference

Not my taste but the matt looks more expensive than the shiny one.

AvoidingRealHumans · 14/11/2020 16:01

Another vote for matte

Lily193 · 14/11/2020 16:12

I'm not sure either could be described as 'classy' but the matte looks nicer, though in your photos they do look very similar to me.

wirldsgonemad · 14/11/2020 16:24

Did you really pay £330 for a belt??

oOmuffin · 14/11/2020 16:29

Shiny. To me the matte one looks a bit plasticy for some reason.

AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal · 14/11/2020 16:40

Shiny is the one for me ❤️

lalafafa · 14/11/2020 16:54

shiny, matt looks cheap

Aoki · 14/11/2020 17:03

For £330 neither. That model wearing it looks like they’ve had a hard paper round as well.

Take your judgy shite elsewhere, this isn't aibu!

ThistleWitch · 14/11/2020 17:06

what will you wear them with?

SunshineOverStress · 14/11/2020 17:11

Thank you for the replies so far!

No I didn’t spend £330 on a belt, my lovely boyfriend did Grin

I would wear it with jeans, and wear it round my waist over dresses

It's an expensive belt. Therefore a statement.. so, I'd go for shiny.

Aoki · 14/11/2020 17:13

@AlexisIsMySpiritAnimal
I’ll post wherever I like, thank you very much Smile.

I was going to suggest if you’re going to spend £330 on a belt, could you find another designer? Those ones just don’t look worth that amount and the Gucci Buckle is hideous.
AvoidingRealHumans · 14/11/2020 17:36

God some people who have commented on here are awful.
Op didn't ask if it was to our taste but if we preferred matte or shiny.
Those belts are very fashionable at the moment but obviously won't appeal to everyone.

PeanutButterFalcon · 14/11/2020 17:37

Shiny

kittykat35 · 14/11/2020 17:46

OP I have the Matt one and I love it!! Goes with everything!!enjoy!!

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 14/11/2020 17:50

Shiny. If you are going to wear it, then own it and go bold!

onIRNBRU · 14/11/2020 17:51

Matte for me too.

WinterRose92 · 14/11/2020 17:56

I prefer the matte one but both are lovely!

Readysteadife · 14/11/2020 18:00

I like the matt

FeelinSpendy · 14/11/2020 18:01

I feel like the matte one is more ‘casual’ and the shiny is more ‘dressy’. Matte would be better for daywear whereas the shiny is better for a meal out or something. So I think it depends whether you’re more likely to wear daytime or evening.
Also, depends on what other belts you have and wear - is there a gap in your wardrobe that this will fill?

throwaway100000 · 14/11/2020 18:11

I preempted some of the ridiculous comments from the title 🙄

I bought myself this belt last year, as a treat to myself to mark my first graduate job! It definitely takes an outfit to the next level, however I would say it’s overdone at this point. I wouldn’t buy it now, personally.

I think keep the shiny version as the matte buckle looks worn out/unpolished as opposed to having that aesthetic on purpose. I actually sent my belt back to Gucci initially as it looked unpolished like that on arrival, where they replaced it.

I don’t think the matte looks more classy at all. No one irl would notice the difference between the two, they stand out equally. The shine has never been a problem for me.
