How often do you wash your hair?

Just that, really. I'm a once-a-week person when I don't exercise. I have long hair and brush it multiple times a day. Also we are a non-smoking household and we tend to eat healthily so no smell of frying in the house. I get it that your scalp can smell but anyone I told I can go a week without washing my hair was surprised because it's always shiny and doesn't smell or look greasy (I have dry hair and skin so that may help).

I know some people have to wash their hair daily but that's usually (not always) because they have oily scalps. So I'm curious. How often do you wash your hair?

Every day, sometimes every other day.

Non smoking. Non frying house, same as you. I do have fine-medium hair, prone to greasiness though.

My hair is short and easy to handle though so a 5 min shower + 5 mins whizz over with the hairdryer and it’s done. It’s not a big palaver and most days I avoid the hairdryer as heat-styling is terrible for hair.

Nonamesavail · 03/11/2020 12:25

3days

THat's also why I try not to wash it more often. Heat is a killer.

Every day in the shower.

I don't like having a shower and not washing my hair at the same time. If my hair gets wet in the shower, I might as well wash it.

How does it work - do you wear a shower cap to avoid getting wet hair? Or just not shower?

Mine used to be daily but it’s now every 2/3 days. Wfh means that dry shampoo will do!

I have a bath at night and don’t get my hair wet.

My scalp gets greasy (thanks to pcos) so every 3 days sometimes more often
So jealous of pp who can dry their hair in 5 mins wow, mine takes an hour with a hair dryer

if I were to sleep with wet hair after ‘plopping’ it still won’t be dry by the morning

Frustrating as my scalp/roots get so oily, but I otherwise have thick curly hair which is drier

noseresearch · 03/11/2020 12:37

For anyone with a greasy scalp - I used to use batiste dry shampoo between washes however what I’ve found more effective is applying talcum powder liberally to the roots before going to bed. I don’t worry about it looking obviously white/powdery because by morning I’ve tossed enough in my sleep that it looks invisible and less shiny

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 03/11/2020 12:38

Never!

ladybee28 · 03/11/2020 12:41

I've got curly hair, so I wash it once a week with a sulfate-free cleanser.

Other days I'll wet it without washing it, condition only, or tie it in a bun on top of my head and keep my head out of the spray.

Sasuma · 03/11/2020 12:49

Every day, it just takes a minute in the shower and I let it air dry so it doesn’t get extra heat damage from the high frequency I wash it.

I exercise every day, running/biking or swimming so I feel much better washing it after exercise.

BusterGonad · 03/11/2020 12:51

Once a week, maybe less, thick wavy hair, not particularly greasy, if anything dry ends. I hate washing my hair so I'm pretty pleased that it rarely needs doing. The only issues I get if I leave it too long is an itchy scalp.

ivftake1 · 03/11/2020 13:00

I'm training it to go longer between washes currently in day 3 and a bit of dry shampoo has done the trick. Will probably wash tomorrow

hopeishere · 03/11/2020 13:01

Every day. Gets greasy otherwise.

whoareyouIwonder · 03/11/2020 13:12

Every day.

Even if your house is spotless and you only eat food handed to you by mystical unicorns, you're still exposed to dirt outside,

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 03/11/2020 13:39

Even if your house is spotless

My house is nothing like spotless. And my hair is likely full of hummus and other assorted foodstuffs. Meh. I'm single. Actually .... that's probably why Grin

TweeBree · 03/11/2020 13:43

Every other, unless I have an important meeting.

ivftake1 · 03/11/2020 13:44

What's your point?
QueenPaws · 03/11/2020 13:45

Definitely not every day - it takes about 60-90 mins to dry!
More once every 3/4 days and conditioner only

whoareyouIwonder · 03/11/2020 13:51

@ivftake1

My point is that OP is saying she doesn't need to wash her hair because it doesn't get dirty or smell inside her house, but that quite obviously her hair will still get dirty outside

Audreyseyebrows · 03/11/2020 13:56

I used to wash it daily but am trying to do it less. I’ve just had it coloured so trying to maintain it. I’m managing every third day when not working but only every other day when working. It’s not looking dirty but feels dirty. I wear a cap in the shower so I’m not tempted!

Glendaruel · 03/11/2020 13:58

About once all week. I have longer hair that become unmanageable if I wash it more regular. For years I did it every second day, but when I switched to shampoo bar found it wasn't needed.

JaceLancs · 03/11/2020 14:18

1-2 times a week
As I’ve got older it’s very dry and prone to frizz and actually looks better if washed less frequently
I always wash it after gym or swim - on lazy or busy weeks when I don’t get chance to go to gym or pool I only wash it once
