How often do you wash your hair?

Just that, really. I'm a once-a-week person when I don't exercise. I have long hair and brush it multiple times a day. Also we are a non-smoking household and we tend to eat healthily so no smell of frying in the house. I get it that your scalp can smell but anyone I told I can go a week without washing my hair was surprised because it's always shiny and doesn't smell or look greasy (I have dry hair and skin so that may help).

I know some people have to wash their hair daily but that's usually (not always) because they have oily scalps. So I'm curious. How often do you wash your hair?

Every day otherwise I don’t feel fully clean

Elcantador · 03/11/2020 14:32

My hair gets oily unfortunately so i wash it every other day. I have just started a new regime, aiming to hold off the oilyness a bit longer. Adding salt to shampoo was a trick i found on youtube and also switching to shampoo with no sulfate as well as washing it with water that is warm but not hot. All of these supposed to make the scalp 'calmer' so it doesnt react by producing oil as much. Im really hoping it will make a difference as my hair is long and takes a whhile to comb and dry.

NotquitewhatImeant · 03/11/2020 16:46

Every day. It’s fine so I feel it looks fresher after a wash and it can get a little greasy at the temples. I also exercise everyday and hate the idea of having a sweaty head in my pillow. I don’t blow dry it very often though.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 04/11/2020 18:17

I used to wash it once a week as I have really thick hair which took a while to dry out and generally didn't look or feel dirty, but recently I've had to do it every 2-3days as it's starting to get greasy quickly. I have no idea why.

ZazieRoses · 04/11/2020 18:32

Once every 5-7 days, depends when I fancy it/have time.

Standrewsschool · 04/11/2020 18:32

Every other day. Occasionally leave it to three days, but that’s pushing it, and usually then only if I’m not going out.

Greasy-normal mid-length hair.

I never use dry shampoo. Can’t quite understand how adding something to your hair makes it look cleaner.

Incidently, does anyone wash their hair twice at one sitting? Growing up, all shampoo bottles used to advise this. I guess people wash their hair more frequently now, or people use conditioners more (never used conditioners growing up). I think the theory was the first wash was to clean your hair, and the second to maintain it?

When I was pregnant I could get away with once every 5 days but I get serious bed head and greasy temples and have high kites which look dirty when I haven’t washed my hair these days. So, I would love to wash every day but can’t be arsed so generally every other day. I do t always blow dry but when I dont my hair looks dry and frizzy

timothytoeseatenbyaghoul · 04/11/2020 18:45

Every 3/4 days depending on how lazy I am Confused

Roselilly36 · 04/11/2020 18:49

Once a week

AdoptedBumpkin · 04/11/2020 18:53

Pretty much every day.

optimisticpessimist01 · 04/11/2020 18:59

Every other day when I'm at work. My hair looks greasy if I leave it any longer and I have no idea why! Maybe I touch it too much

During holiday's I leave 2 full days in between washing it

AriesTheRam · 04/11/2020 19:05

Every other day

SpeckledyHen · 04/11/2020 19:06

Every day because I like to be clean all over to start the day .Nothing to do with grease. I don’t know how you can shower properly without hair washing too .

Glitterinthegrey · 04/11/2020 19:14

When it needs it... used to be every second day. Significantly less often now that I'm permanently WFH and barely ever leave the house.

I still shower daily though - hair up in a bun and shower head lowered so that my hair doesn't get wet.

BinkyandBunty · 04/11/2020 19:31

I co-wash every 4-5 days. I.e. massage conditioner into my scalp to loosen dirt and excess oil so they can be rinsed away, without using detergent (shampoo) to strip the natural oils completely.

Only use a sulfate free shampoo when I top my hair colour at the roots, so every 6 weeks or so.

My hair is much more moisturised and less frizzy than it was when I shampooed and my colour doesn't fade or go brassy at all.

chickensoup23 · 04/11/2020 19:36

Every other day x

MrsJonesAndMe · 04/11/2020 19:47

Every other day. Lots of hair, but fine. Gets oily if left longer.

foxtiger · 04/11/2020 19:52

Usually every 2 days but occasionally 3 if I have an early morning start when it would have been due. Mine is wavy but quite fine, and it goes horribly straight and limp when it needs a wash. In an emergency, salt spray will give it a new lease of life.

Msgiggles30 · 04/11/2020 19:53

Daily because i dont feel clean otherwise. I probably could only go every other anyway because it would be greasy. I hate that i feel this way though because i have waist long hair that takes hours to dry!

WhentheDealGoesDown · 04/11/2020 19:56

Every day but it is short and curly and dries naturally. If I don’t wash it it starts hurting a bit at the crown, like it’s laying the wrong way, it’s very strange

burglarbettybaby · 04/11/2020 20:01

Every single day. It's oily and if I leave it more than 24 hours it's doesnt feel or smell good at all. Mine air dries in the car on the way to work in 15mins or 4 mins with a hairdryer. So not work to it really.

MeMeMeYou · 04/11/2020 20:03

Ideally every 3 days but sometimes I stretch it out.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 04/11/2020 20:52

I have started co-washing too. Speeds up the process too!

Once a week max at the moment. When I was going into work twice a week. My hair is so fine but prone to frizziness so less washing is better for it, but it would always feel dirty quicker when I was commuting.
