What can I expect? I’ve never done anything like this before but I’m feeling a bit low and stuck in a rut so thought it might give me a bit of a boost. Has anyone else done it? Good experience? Worth it? Waste of time?

I went to the Leeds branch, I'm size 18, not young but it was the only way I could try things on, for a wedding.
Lovely young man and not at all pushy, gave me some great tips.

Hmmwhattoexpect · 22/10/2020 17:18

Ooh thank you. I’m not young either - hoping they’ll suggest some items I would never have tried myself.

I did it once a few years ago. I was pleasantly surprised, found lots of things i wouldn't have tried myself. Not pushy at all, was told they aren't on commission so no need.

Hmmwhattoexpect · 22/10/2020 17:27

Just hope they won’t be disappointed when an older, overweight grey haired lady turns up. I’m going out with my husband for the first time in months next weekend and just want to feel confident.

I did one at JL and the stylist was great (an older lady herself) - quickly established what look I wanted and brought a few things I wouldn't have picked up but did like. No prssure to buy. It was far more enjoyable than I thought it would be.

See the other thread going about personal stylists, majority of posters sayit! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4057717-To-turn-down-this-gift-from-my-in-laws

I hope you get something lovely to wear & enjoy your night out.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 22/10/2020 17:43

Whoops should say majority of posters say do it!

TheShoesa · 22/10/2020 17:45

Did similar at Debnhams when I needed an outfit for a wedding and was not in a shape that fitted any of my existing clothes.
She asked me about what I liked and didn't like and then brought a selection of things for me to try. The dress I ended up buying was one that I would not have chosen for myself, it looked awful on the hanger but was very flattering on.
Overall it was a good experience and I would do it again. I hope you find something that makes you feel fab!

nancybotwinbloom · 22/10/2020 17:46

I didn't even know they did this! Is it expensive op?

happytoday73 · 22/10/2020 17:49

It's free... And you try things on.... 😁

FlibbertyGiblets · 22/10/2020 17:51

It is a free service but you must book.

OP you'll be surprised at what gets brought out, go with it, try it all. You might be presented with the idea of a new bra too.

happytoday73 · 22/10/2020 17:55

I've done it 3x...i hate clothes shopping... First time... Great- my colours and quickly got good things for my body shape... No pressure and would tell me if didn't suit.

2nd...as went into lockdown... Only booked as styles were all wrong and lots of 70s loose mega small floral stuff that did nothing for me.... So what did she bring me.... Shapeless, floral stuff in orange and yellow....despite knowing I'm a summer so needs blues, pinks, purples...

Tried again 2 weeks ago with older stylist...much better shapes and styles... Colours hit and miss... But got jacket, 2 tops, 2 trousers and a dress... So v happy... Most wouldn't have tried on

Hmmwhattoexpect · 22/10/2020 17:57

Thank you everyone. Starting to get very excited now. Will report back tomorrow!

I had one to help me select an outfit for my son's wedding. I was totally at sea and repelled by traditional mother of the groom outfits. Also it wasn't a traditional wedding. The lady I had really 'got' me.

waitrosetrollydolly · 22/10/2020 18:10

Oh you have inspired me to book one.

Bakedbeanhead · 22/10/2020 18:14

Ooh excited for you OP, please give us an update, I would love to do one x

nancybotwinbloom · 22/10/2020 18:15

You have inspired me to book one too!

burglarbettybaby · 22/10/2020 18:17

Enjoy OP I am keen to find out how you get on. Hope you have a lovely day. I would love to have a change of image

Cuddling57 · 22/10/2020 18:40

Ooo sounds good. Can you try things on at the moment?
I'm tempted too! Looking forward to the updates.
Can we have some pictures too Grin

Hmmwhattoexpect · 22/10/2020 18:43

So pleased to hear everyone’s experiences and that I have inspired others to give it a go. Will definitely report back with pictures if possible - I might be a new woman by tomorrow!

I find it impossible to buy trousers - I’m such an odd shape. Really hoping they might be able to help me track some down!

OP posts:
nancybotwinbloom · 22/10/2020 18:52

Will you let us know how you get on op and what you end up buying?

With lots of details about the whole experience please Grin

Hmmwhattoexpect · 22/10/2020 18:56

Of course!

Have a great time. I did it once for a special occasion and was pleased with the outfit they suggested.

Hmmwhattoexpect · 23/10/2020 17:28

Had a super time! The stylist could not have been more lovely or helpful. She didn’t have a client straight after me and so I stayed for over an hour and a half. I bought a pair of boots that I would have never have picked off the shelves myself, a lovely pair of trousers and two tops. One again in a colour that I would not have chosen myself but looks gorgeous. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it. Felt under absolutely no pressure to buy anything but love what I did buy!
