Love this thread- at 5 ft 2 and a half I'm feeling positively lofty- although my legs are super-stumpy. Also have small feet 35-36.

TooMinty · 12/10/2020 20:34

Ok, I have given up on the idea of a Mint Velvet jumper, probably will drown me 🙁
Anyone got the animal print leggings? Are they nice on or too much pattern for stumpy legs?

TooMinty · 12/10/2020 20:36

Oh for bras I have got some in Boux Avenue in a 28" back. Calvin Klein do 30" backs. And their bralettes in XS fit me well.

OhRosalind · 13/10/2020 07:06

@dontcallmelen I have the Sezane 7/8 slim jeans and they are perfect on me. Best skinny jeans since the Topshop Pippa! I also have a pair of the brut sexy with the unfinished hem so I just trimmed as needed, but not sure if that’s their current style. I’m 5’2” and my legs are long for my height but too short for standard jeans.

popularinthe80s · 13/10/2020 07:19

Morning, everyone. We may be small, but we are mighty!
Can anyone recommend an alternative to Doc Martens to wear with any kind of jean/dresses/skirts?
My feet aren't that tiny (3.5, so sometimes a 3, sometimes a 4).
But on my frame, DMs look comical. I was in DM shop last week and the assistant actually said, I shouldn't be saying this, but I wouldn't buy them if I were you.
(Nothing against the chunky DM look, I love it. But on skinny ankles and calves, I looked like aged toddler dressing up in mum's shoes. A really on trend mum's shoes).

Did you try on the kid's DMs too? They have a slimmer fit. Although might only go up to size 3.

Toms are quite slim fitting shoes/boots but don't know if they have any lace up styles just now.

Sooverthemill · 13/10/2020 08:21

@OhRosalind can I ask about the sezane sizing? I am 26/ size 8 pretty much standard in most jeans eg j crew, Levi, jigsaw, Boden, Made in Heaven. But sezane come up small? What do you think? I really want a pair!

TooMinty · 13/10/2020 08:24

Hmm, maybe their sizing has crept up. These boots look nice but the last picture shows them looking quite wide on slim legs...

IceniWarrior · 13/10/2020 08:37

I'd love biker boots but they look to clumsy on me. Have been waiting on some platform sketchers. Probably look rediculus. Not sure why I ordered them. I think I want flats that made me look taller!

So I love the new dungarees. Wearing with a black top and diamond studs. Not sure why people think they look silly on petite people? I think they look nice and suit my height!

OhRosalind · 13/10/2020 08:44

@Sooverthemill I am also reliably a 26/8 in jeans. I read online reviews saying Sezane jeans are tiny so took a gamble on some second-hand slim jeans in a 27 and the waist is loose, I need a belt. Got the brut sexy in a 26 and they’re perfect. I think the reviews were American so maybe used to more generous sizing? Also Sezane jeans often have no or little stretch. It’s worth reading the sizing advice too as sometimes it says to go up or down depending on the colour even for the same style.

Sooverthemill · 13/10/2020 08:56

@OhRosalind thank you. There's a pair on eBay now. Maybe I will risk as I guess I can always sell on.

OhRosalind · 13/10/2020 10:04

@Sooverthemill yes the good thing about Sezane is it has good resell value so not too risky to buy second hand.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/10/2020 10:59

@popularinthe80s I have a pair of kids DMs, they're fab! I'm normally a size 3 and I find them a large fit. I think I could've easily gone down to a 2.5.

The added bonus with kids DMs is that the leather is soft so there's no need to break them in!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/10/2020 11:02

These are the DMs I have, slightly matte which I like:
www.schuh.ie/kids/youth-dr-martens-1460-black-boots/2402307020/

They were only €81! not sure of £ price

popularinthe80s · 13/10/2020 11:21

@ all the DM help - thank you
@IceniWarrior, sorry, I didn't mean they look ridiculous on other people. I think it's all about your look, and my look has changed so my clothes/style doesn't look as good with very chunky boots. A friend of mine, similar size, far more edgy look, they look great on her.

IceniWarrior · 13/10/2020 11:28

Didn't mean you! In some of the Style and Beauty threads there is generally a list of what short people can't wear! E.g. Dungarees, maxi dresses etc.

I wish I was more edgy!

AuldFox · 13/10/2020 12:05

I still look silly in dungarees. I can pull off a maxi dress though, so boo to the so-called rules!

Sooverthemill · 13/10/2020 12:07

@OhRosalind just bought them! Hope they fit. Then I can maybe cull some of my older lower quality ones.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/10/2020 13:15

I think dungarees can look lovely on petite people but you have to be very slim. Any tummy and you start to look like a toddler. Make up, hair and jewellery would be important too. Smile

OhRosalind · 13/10/2020 14:05

Let me know @Sooverthemill, I’m trying to do the same.

I agree @SwimmingOnEggshells that hair and makeup are important with dungarees to avoid the toddler look, the same goes for anything else reminiscent of kids’ clothes like bows, frills, big buttons etc.

Maxi dresses, jumpsuits, dungarees etc. can look amazing on petites but they need to a) fit properly (easier said than done) and b) be fairly slim fitting, imo.

Annasgirl · 13/10/2020 14:13

Oh I love the look of those DM's @SwimmingOnEggshells. I might just get a pair.

I went to a shopping centre last night on a quick message and popped into Primark, Zara, M and S and H and M for a peep - bad idea. I was so overwhelmed. I was actually looking for leggings but then started trying on puffa jackets, quilted jackets, you name it. And then I started on shoes and bags - as you can see I have not been in a shop for months, but it was too much in too short a time (I only had an hour) and I came home empty handed and with no idea what I wanted to buy.

dontcallmelen · 13/10/2020 15:49

@OhRosalind thank you I will check the sezane jeans out.
I recently bought a couple pairs of these from primark, they have an unfinished hem so just chopped of the ends & rolled them up/tucked them in boots they are really comfortable not sure how long they will last but a good buy for 15.00

dontcallmelen · 13/10/2020 15:53

Think someone asked about T-shirts, Oliver Bonas I find good/French connection & whistles, cheap as chips peacocks cotton T-shirts are really good quality & wash very well.

dontcallmelen · 13/10/2020 15:58

Chelsea boots seem like the holy grail, I always look like olive oyl I have found ankle boots with laces work much better as you can tighten them up, knee length boots I have a pair of slim leg from Jones the Bootmaker which fit nicely & don’t dig into the back of my knee, definitely going to check out children’s DM’s 👍🏼

littlespeckledfrog · 14/10/2020 06:19

Please can I join? 5 foot and size 6/8, although feet are a quite large 4.5! I have short chunky legs.

I like Banana Republic for work clothes although sizing is hard to work out.

Just bought a Didriksons Thea parka in 150.

Also a Précis black wool coat but size 6 still slightly too big 😬

Levi's cropped 501s are good - turned over twice at the bottom they're ankle skimming and seem more modern than skinnies, but a neater fit than mom jeans.
