For the Hard of Styling - Second Stitch Fix Box Received

So, for those of us not blessed with the "knowing what to wear" gene, I thought I would share info about my second delivery from the Stitch Fix service.

I kept everything from Box 1, and was really excited about my second Box. I had the same stylist, Scarlett, and had made it clear that I didn't want any more denim, having got the perfect pair of supersoft high waisted skinnies in Box ,1 no jewelry, no shoes, and just tops. You tell them when you set the account up what necklines/colours/fit you like.

So I got:

A lovely pale pink jumper from Danish brand Vero Moda. I didn't think much of it when I first saw it as I am blonde and wouldn't usually wear pale pink, being worried it would wash me out. However, when I put it on it looked great. The neckline showed off my collar bones nicely so that is a keeper. I couldn't find it on their website so it must have sold out in pink but here it is in brown

The most beautiful navy oversize shirt from Mint Velvet The material is so nice, and the sleeves look great rolled up. It's really comfy and ideal for WFH.

A very ladylike burgundy organza sleeved top from Mauvette which is the Stitch Fix brand. It will look great with a velvet black pencil skirt I got from Whistles in the sale.

A blue and black simple patterned blouse with fluted sleeves (which I had specifically asked for)

Finally, the item I sent back. It was a patterned blouse from another Scandi brand - Part Two. It was just too fussy a pattern for me, or maybe I am just not cool enough for the Scandi look Grin

So I was really happy again. I love the fact that I am stretched a bit, so I don't just end up looking the same all the time. I guess I don't trust my own judgement, as I wouldn't have selected most of the clothes, but when I put them on, I am really surprised how good they look. So clearly the issue is with me!!

Here is my £15 off code if any of you want to try it

I have another Fix scheduled for November and will give another honest feed back. I am keeping myself set at the cheapest level and will ask for the same stylist again as she has interpreted the reams of info I gave her about my likes and dislikes really well so far (apart from the dodgy brown and orange blouse!)

Good feedback, thanks!
Can I ask where your jeans in the first box were from? They sound perfect!

lockdownalli · 03/10/2020 16:29

They were the Mauvette, own brand ones. I didn't think I would get into them, they looked too small, but they fit so well. They are really high waisted, and really soft. I have worn and washed them loads of times and they still have that lovely softness.

Years ago I had an M&S pair similar in terms of the softness, and I have struggled to find anything similar. If you have signed up I am sure you could state you want the Mauvette High waisted soft skinnies in your box. You can sign up and have a one off box, it's not a subscription, and it's free delivery and free returns so no risk.

Good luck!

Cheers, thanks for the info

Stealthynamechange · 03/10/2020 17:08

Thanks! I'm going to try this

cuppycakey · 03/10/2020 18:37

I have had three boxes, absolutely love the service. Like you OP I struggle with knowing what to buy ,and I end up finding something I like and buying it in every colour.

Then I wonder why I am so bored with my wardrobe!

I get really excited when the box arrives - it's like Santa has been! I like the fact I have been introduced to brands I wouldn't have used before, and I feel like for very little cost my wardrobe is refreshed a few times a year. I know some people get it every month and I am very jealous, but I can't afford that right now.

My friends have started asking me where I got things so I think I must be doing something right!

MustWe · 03/10/2020 18:44

I tried it once and the only thing I really liked, a shirt from Great Plains, was actually past season and available online heavily reduced. Stitchfix wanted the full price.

I wouldn’t be against trying it again though as none of the items were a total disaster. They just weren’t quite right for me.

Stealthynamechange · 03/10/2020 18:49

Those of you who've brought from them what kind of things did you put into the notes and how much did you spend on a box?

Pepvixen · 03/10/2020 18:52

I have had a lot of success by saying what items I want, e.g. long sleeve blouse, midi dress. I usually put a wish list of 4 items. It has totally transformed my wardrobe.

sophiestew · 03/10/2020 22:02

Yes! This is what I do too and I feel my stylist Claire really understands what I need.

I spend about £150 each box, although you can spend much more if you want. They ask so many questions when yous ign up so they can tailor the service to what you want. As they are paying for the delivery and returns I suppose it's in their interest to get it right first time. I won't post my £15 referral code as alli has already posted her but I would recommend you use that as then you get an additional £15 off. There is a £10 styling fee but you get that back if you keep just one item, regardless of price.

I am a nurse so I haven't had much time to go shopping over the past few months, and for me as a middle aged mum, Stitchfix is brilliant for me. I feel like I am not as mumsy as I was, but I am not being conned into spending money I don't have on shit I don't want.

jagoda · 04/10/2020 10:28

I have been thinking about doing Stitch Fix too after admiring a dress my cousin was wearing and she got it from her delivery. I thought you had to have a regular box but I just signed up - thanks for the £15 discount code @lockdownalli and I have ordered a one off to come towards month end when I get paid. About time i treated myself.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/10/2020 10:41

I’ve had two boxes and I’ve only kept one item from the two. It was a long-sleeved polka dot wrap top, which is made out of stretchy polyester stuff. I have scarcely worn it, although that might be down to lockdown - I’d probably have worn it to work over a black vest a lot. It’s a bit hot, though, because of the material. I liked a polka dot satin skirt as well, but sent it back because I had bought a very similar one from Oliver Bonas the week before.

I just didn’t like anything in the second box. I’d asked for smart joggers and they sent me Whistles ones that cost £85 and just didn’t suit me. Everything else was a bit boring and a bit mumsy/worky. And they sent me a woolly jumper in July, which was a silly idea.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 04/10/2020 10:46

Oh, and I’ve looked up everything online and found that some things have been reduced but StitchFix is still charging the full price.

MabelChiltern1 · 04/10/2020 10:52

I’ve had 2 boxes ... nothing right in the first... kept 2 tops from second. I do the style shuffle on line most days. I’m hard to style so very pleased to have clothes I like delivered. Best to give as much info as possible like no thank you polyester. Smile

Pepvixen · 04/10/2020 10:59

I think it works best the more info you give it. Also suits more if you don't like shopping. I take the point above saying you could find a nicer leather jacket if you searched. But I don't want to spend an hour searching for a jacket. The fact it just arrived is a huge advantage for me. Despite having a good income, my wardrobe was terrible as I hate shopping so would always put it off.

lockdownalli · 04/10/2020 14:52

@Stealthynamechange

Those of you who've brought from them what kind of things did you put into the notes and how much did you spend on a box?
I spent quite a while building up the profile. They ask you whether you like checks/stripes/different prints.

They ask which colours you like, how you want your clothes to fit (tight/fitted/loose/oversize) what mix you want of dressy/casual clothes, what fit of jeans you like, and loads of questions about your proportions, so whether you are busty, short legged, tiny bum. They ask what areas you like to show off or hide, so I could explain I don't wear sleeveless tops but am happy to wear a shorter skirt.

They also ask about lifestyle - are you running around after kids all day, or in a stylish office environment. Also I liked the fact they don't just ask your size. I am top heavy so was able to explain this and give different sizes for different items. Plus you can change it regularly as I have as a result of losing weight, and you can say there are certain things you never want to be sent, such as jeans, or shoes.

Finally, you can write a note to your stylist each time saying, for example, "No denim, would like a velvet blazer or a maxi skirt. I think I am a 10/12 now in dresses. A bright red cosy jumper would be nice for WFH."

You get the £10 styling charge refunded so long as you keep one item, and with my £15 off you wouldn't even pay that even if you hated it all. www.stitchfix.co.uk/invite/ffztmxfkwh?sod=w&som=c

I still buy clothes in a more "normal" way, although obviously mostly online at the moment Sad but I feel the Stitch Fix experience has exposed me to different styles and brands and I feel a bit more adventurous and less stale.

OP posts:
lockdownalli · 04/10/2020 14:55

Sorry - forgot to say, you set the price range you want per item. I have spent about £175 for five items and £141 for four on my two outings.

OP posts:
mashpot · 04/10/2020 16:12

I’ve signed up with your link Lockdown. I’m a bit nervous as I really didn’t like any of the looks they were showing me to rate, everything got thumbs down 😬 but I figured nothing to lose.

lockdownalli · 04/10/2020 16:40

You can do that "thumbs up/down" thing every day, so they build up a picture of your style over time, don't worry.

I hope it goes well for you and like you say, you have nothing to lose.

OP posts:
Stealthynamechange · 04/10/2020 19:44

Thank you i'm quite excited to see what they send!

Softpebbles · 04/10/2020 19:51

I have had two boxes. The first I kept everything, something was cheaper online and I emailed them with a link and they price matched. To be fair it was cheaper to keep everything rather than send the one item back as if you keep it all you get 20% off. I have noticed one of the tops has already bobbled and it’s only been worn and washed once.

My second box - rubbish. My daughters words were that they were getting rid of their summer left overs and it was just dull.
Felt really annoyed and have cancelled my subscription.

So a mixed bag here. 😊

lockdownalli · 04/10/2020 20:14

Yes I made sure I didn't have a delivery between early July - early Sept as I was worried I might get a load of summer leftovers.

By leaving it til now I felt more confident I would get season appropriate clothes, which I did.

OP posts:
Softpebbles · 04/10/2020 20:47

@lockdownalli mine arrived on Friday!

Puppylucky · 04/10/2020 21:00

Wow I can't believe this thread is for real as Stitch Fix has been the biggest disappointment ever for me. My preferences in terms of items are ignored and the items I get sent are mostly dull and overpriced. I'm certainly not being inspired or excited by what's being sent. I will probably give it one more go and then cancel as I'm bored with receiving a pile of tat that I then have to return

Ifonlyiweretaller · 04/10/2020 21:18

Got my first box this weekend....was surprised how small it was 🤣 5 items - 3 tops, one dress, one pair of jeans. The colours of the tops and dress were all too Autumnal and fussy, none my style at all. The jeans however fit me like a glove ! I'm amazed and very Impressed, even the length is perfect for me. (They are apparently their own brand of jeans - and a lovely soft denim)
So on that basis Ikm going to give them another go, bearing in mind I've explained in detail my reason for returning each rejected item, I'm hoping for more success next month.

Randomness12 · 04/10/2020 23:44

Can I ask, those of you who are enjoying it - are you slim and/or comfortable with your body shape? I am a mum and was already struggling to lose the pregnancy weight pre-lockdown and Have gained probably another stone. I have no time to shop and it’s something I used to love doing but now ends with me in floods of tears and with no clothes. I hate almost everything I currently own which fits. I thought this might be a good way to go without the pressure of shopping?
