For the Hard of Styling - Second Stitch Fix Box Received

lockdownalli · 03/10/2020 16:19

So, for those of us not blessed with the "knowing what to wear" gene, I thought I would share info about my second delivery from the Stitch Fix service.

I kept everything from Box 1, and was really excited about my second Box. I had the same stylist, Scarlett, and had made it clear that I didn't want any more denim, having got the perfect pair of supersoft high waisted skinnies in Box ,1 no jewelry, no shoes, and just tops. You tell them when you set the account up what necklines/colours/fit you like.

So I got:

A lovely pale pink jumper from Danish brand Vero Moda. I didn't think much of it when I first saw it as I am blonde and wouldn't usually wear pale pink, being worried it would wash me out. However, when I put it on it looked great. The neckline showed off my collar bones nicely so that is a keeper. I couldn't find it on their website so it must have sold out in pink but here it is in brown

The most beautiful navy oversize shirt from Mint Velvet The material is so nice, and the sleeves look great rolled up. It's really comfy and ideal for WFH.

A very ladylike burgundy organza sleeved top from Mauvette which is the Stitch Fix brand. It will look great with a velvet black pencil skirt I got from Whistles in the sale.

A blue and black simple patterned blouse with fluted sleeves (which I had specifically asked for)

Finally, the item I sent back. It was a patterned blouse from another Scandi brand - Part Two. It was just too fussy a pattern for me, or maybe I am just not cool enough for the Scandi look Grin

So I was really happy again. I love the fact that I am stretched a bit, so I don't just end up looking the same all the time. I guess I don't trust my own judgement, as I wouldn't have selected most of the clothes, but when I put them on, I am really surprised how good they look. So clearly the issue is with me!!

Here is my £15 off code if any of you want to try it

I have another Fix scheduled for November and will give another honest feed back. I am keeping myself set at the cheapest level and will ask for the same stylist again as she has interpreted the reams of info I gave her about my likes and dislikes really well so far (apart from the dodgy brown and orange blouse!)

I have joined and will be getting it in a week or so , will report back

lockdownalli · 05/10/2020 09:29

Puppy That sounds shit. Have you asked for a different stylist? My box this time came with a note that said something like, "You will see there is a top with fluted sleeves as you specifically requested that, I hope it is what you had in mind. The navy shirt from Mint Velvet should look great with the jeans you had last time, and I know you prefer navy to black." So, I do feel listened to, although like another poster, I didn't like the one top I sent back that was horrid autumnal colours.

Random No. When I started I was size 14/16 and really bloody unhappy with my body, especially my tummy and "upper tummy" I felt completely lost and like I was just wasting money buying clothes in the pathetic hope they would make me look slim.

I have lost some weight and am now size 14 top and 12 bottoms (on a good day) but I am top heavy and lumpy. Definitely no clothes horse Smile I have broken down in tears in the M&S changing rooms before so I feel your pain. Obviously we can't try stuff on in shops atm so yeah, I have found this really great for lockdown/restrictions. I feel I have gained in confidence and almost got my mojo back. Probably part of that is that I feel I am treating myself and thinking about myself, which is something I maybe don't do often enough, like many of us.

They do boxes for men too!!!

This is interesting, I've been thinking about signing up with stitch fix for a while. I have a wardrobe full of lovely clothes, if only it was 2006. I seem to have lost myself post kids..... (A common story I suspect). Had anyone tried lookiero (it appears to be the same business model)?

Puppylucky · 05/10/2020 22:15

In the interest of fairness I should say that after my latest disappointing box and my comments on it they have contacted me. The person had clearly read my comments and was very apologetic. They have asked if I would accept a free replacement box with no styling fee so I am going to give it one more go. And in answer to PP above I have also tried Lookieo but not impressed with them either!

Figgyboa · 05/10/2020 22:33

Love stitch fix, I've been using it for a few years now and have a unique, stylish wardrobe

lockdownalli · 06/10/2020 17:07

That's good puppy I think I heard of that before on here.

Let us know how it goes Smile

I have never tried Lookiero but a colleague said she felt like they hadn't read her profile at all, and didn't collect as much advance information as Stitch Fix, leading to a disappointing delivery, which is obviously th eopposite of what we want.

We want boxes of loveliness!!!!

Ooh! I was looking to see if there was a Stitchfix thread!!

I can't tell you how much this has cheered me up during lockdown! I used someone's £15 off code for my first box, otherwise I probably would have been a bit worried about it, but it's been a revelation. I am sure I look far more "put together" and even 23 year old DD thinks I look good.

I might have similar tastes to you @lockdownalli as I also got the soft high waisted skinny jeans a couple of boxes ago (I love them) and I also got the Mint Velvet oversize shirt which is perfect for virtual meetings as it looks really smart but is still so comfy.

My next box is end of November and I can't wait, but I don't know whether to ask for winter loungewear or Christmas party wear. They give you a heads up just before so I know I can leave it til nearer the time. I am struggling a bit with the uncertainty of it all though, like most of us I guess.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/10/2020 12:45

I've got my second box coming end of october :) Its worth checking the price difference between buying everything and returning 1 item. You get 20% off if you keep everything so it can work out cheaper or the same to buy everything than send 1 item back.

Stealthynamechange · 10/10/2020 16:55

Hi all

I got my first box today - was very exciting! Absolutely love the jeans & jumper they sent, jeans fit lovely which is a first for me! They sent 2 short sleeve tops - im returning for obvious reasons 🤦‍♀️ also a coat - its near identical to one i already own so im returning. Im pleased aside from the summer items, which ive commented on. & will get more boxes if only for the jeans!

hettie555 · 10/10/2020 17:45

It's funny how positive this thread is about stitch-fix.
All of the MN threads I've read about SF have been moaning how crap and over-priced it is (I'm a disappointed ex-customer) so I wonder how come this thread is so glowing?

Stealthynamechange · 10/10/2020 17:47

It's the jeans that did it for me, the trauma of jeans shopping shudders
Perhaps they've improved?
My referral code is stitchfix.co.uk/invite/tjvq9zjsct if anyone wants it

TerraMirabilis · 10/10/2020 20:38

I was thinking that too @hettie555. I haven't tried Stitchfix precisely because I've heard so many people say they got disappointing polyester sadness from them. This is quite a contrast.

lockdownalli · 10/10/2020 21:14

Maybe you have hit the nail on the head Terra and the service has been significantly revamped and upgraded.

There is an option now to exclude a range of fabrics and one of the options to exclude is polyester, so that may in part explain the change in popularity. If you don't want polyester you can ensure you won't get any.

OP posts:
JingleCatJingle · 10/10/2020 21:46

I too love the jeans that Stitchfix sent me. I got some French Connection skinny black jeans that are as leggings and so comfy. Pricier than I’d normally spend but well worth it.
All the other items were a bit rubbish, but jeans were very good.

RomaineCalm · 17/10/2020 20:51

I ordered a box based on this thread - it arrived today so thought I'd share.

Overall a success. I hate shopping, have lived in shorts and t-shirts/hoodies for the last six months while WFH and just wanted a bit of inspiration. I'm also pretty 'lumpy' and tend to wear fairly boring colours - I imagined that the stylist would grumble loudly when they realised that they had 'won' me. Confused

I asked for clothes for WFH and for being outdoors - layers that were practical but still looked good if we went for a pub meal afterwards (obviously chance would be a fine thing now!)

Lovely, lovely, soft high waisted jeans - I had specifically requested them and like a PP I thought they would be too small but they fit perfectly and look great. Smile

A navy sweatshirt with 'puff' sleeves - really nice shape, good quality and smart enough for Teams calls whilst still being comfortable.

A cosy burgundy jumper - again the Mauvette brand. Soft and again a nice shape.

A stripy breton-style top. Suspect I may have a few that are similar but it's a good fit and nice material.

A big woolly scarf in muted colours. Probably more expensive than I would ever spend on a scarf but given that it's about the same price as the 20% discount I've convinced myself that it's effectively free.

I'm going to keep everything, see how it all washes and then try another box in a couple of months. Thanks for the recommendation.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/10/2020 08:39

I used SF at the end of last year. They don't seem to be able to deal with someone being 5ft 3ins .... Or busty. I expressly said no button up anything due to fit issues. Got a button up midi dress that wouldn't do up over my boobs and was down to the floor. Also got an over priced white t-shirt of the most appalling quality - it was see through. And shoes, despite saying I didn't want shoes. There was a lot of polyester. I felt like they didn't read anything I'd said at all. I'm also wondering if my 'stylist' made (incorrect) assumptions based on my age (I'm 56) as things were quite mumsy and staid.

I now use a personal stylist once or twice a year, who 'gets' my style and my hatred of polyester.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/10/2020 08:42

Oh and I excluded polyester. I watch YouTube videos of people opening their SF boxes and I'm never that impressed - I am very very picky though so perhaps it was never going to work for me!

Harrogate38 · 18/10/2020 09:31

@Stealthynamechange

Thanks for the code, just used it and will report back.

Sunnywaves · 18/10/2020 09:39

I also ordered a box off the back of this thread and I have been pleasantly surprised. I think it's been a great success.

I asked for smart casual alternatives to jeans, and got a great pair of trousers I really liked from a brand called Margaret M. Think they make them for fat folk! I have to say they are super comfy and I would never have chosen them.

I also got the mauvette jumper in a soft grey, which I liked but it was 90% manmade and created a lot of static so I wouldn't have bought it normally but if I keep the rest of the box it will be free due to the discount.

There were two loose tops, a white one from Mint Velvet which was a bit of a generic white over sized shirt but quite nice and a navy/white Part Two collarless one. Both fit well and looked good with the trousers.

Lastly there was a navy trench coat from Hobbs. Lovely coat and I have been browsing coats online recently so was very happy to see this and it tied the whole box together. My only issue is at the moment Hobbs have 25% off coats so they are charging £50 more than the shop. I have emailed them but I'm not sure on their policy of matching sale prices. It will be interesting to see how they respond.

So overall I'm very happy with my selection even though it's not exactly groundbreaking, it fit my brief perfectly and I will definitely carry on with the boxes. It's just a shame I have nowhere to go to wear them at the moment! Smile

MrsPerfect12 · 18/10/2020 13:44

I've had 3 or 4 boxes now and each have been good. I got sent the mauvette jeans marked as skinny but they were more straight and not tight at the ankles so went back.
I've kept at half of my box each time. Been happy with it.

lockdownalli · 18/10/2020 15:57

Oh I am so glad people have liked their boxes! Smile

@Sunnywaves I believe there is a price match guarantee so yes you should get your £50 refunded. Sounds like you got a great box.

A colleague of mine just got a box for her DP and he absolutely loved it - he hates clothes shopping, like a lot of men.

If anyone else wants to use my £15 off discount here it is - www.stitchfix.co.uk/invite/ffztmxfkwh?sod=w&som=c

I am looking forward to next months box even more now, as I probably won't have another one then until February/March when the sales are over and spring clothes come in, but I could do with some more loungewear soon to see me through the winter in style wfh.

OP posts:
ForthPlace · 18/10/2020 19:39

Not impressed either, too many poor fabrics and too long.

My DP hated his too..and the only item he did like we found on eBay at much less than half price. Suppose it gave us the idea for this item.

Won't be ordering again yet you seem so positive OP.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/10/2020 11:50

So my second box is due next week and today I got an email saying that my stylist had selected 10 pieces that I could review before they send out. You can then select out of the 10 what you want to get and if you select less than 5 give feedback on what you would like instead. My selection of 10 was quite good in that there were 5 items I liked the look of and 5 that were quite plain so it was an easy decision.

I've now got mixed feelings because my box isn't going to be a surprise, but I do know all the things I'm getting are things I want to try on.

stevalnamechanger · 19/10/2020 12:05
  • Dress too long
  • Got the burgendy jumper which for the price I am meh about.
  • Green jersey top same as above - overpriced for what it is
  • Jeans which I didn't ask for but will try on before returning
  • lovely top but just a little snug

All in all I will keep nothing from it unless the jeans fit and are flattering. Not hugely impressed.

stevalnamechanger · 19/10/2020 12:07

I think I will do 1 more box and see how we go with that but won't be carrying it on.
