i'd be up for advent

SOTD Papagayo by milton lloyd this is supposed to be similar to Youth Dew and it is really lovely. Quite powdery abd clean and fresh smelling. I do know Youth Dew but would need a side by side to compare.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 20/10/2020 16:05

i am FAR from posh haha. working class roots, working class upbringing but technically lumped in with the middle class now. Not sure how i feel abou tthat technicality Grin

No SOTD as yet, am trying to muster up the energy to go and dye my hair but im so warm and comfy right now that i just caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant

Shrillharridan · 20/10/2020 16:36

Sotm pp by the fireplace

After shower sote tauer ACDD.
God, I love this stuff 💜

Posh???? Hahaha ha
I've just run out of clean pants!

One persons "tat" is another's treasure 💰

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/10/2020 19:40

SOTD FM Lipstick Rose.

I went to a very rough school and was bullied mercilessly for being “posh”, because of the way I spoke, and because I was quite academic. I don’t have Ffern though.

KaliforniaDreamz · 20/10/2020 20:22

Aw Judy xx

toffee1000 · 21/10/2020 01:02

I always thought that tat was cheap, crappy handmade sort of stuff... see all those threads about Facebook tat that pop up on here every year around Christmas.
I would certainly not count perfume as tat!!

FloraMacDonald · 21/10/2020 08:39

Sorry Judy I didn't mean to hit a nerve.
Toffee most of the stuff on the group is cheap-looking, crappy stuff, just with a price-tag of thousands.
I'll admit that when I saw the ad for barrel-aged organic perfume, even I thought it sounded a bit wanky.

toffee1000 · 21/10/2020 10:49

Barrel-aged organic perfume? It’s not flipping whisky! Grin

teta · 21/10/2020 11:20

Ffern marketing is definitely a bit wanky but then niche perfume is. At least it's not on the scale of Tom Ford (i refuse to buy due to the totally mock-shock wanky names) or killian ( rock god look).

Incidentally the Ffern marketing is definitely improving. The short movie set to music, to advertise autumn was great.

Sotd is Tender by Miller Harris. This is the first proper day I've tried it, as I'm normally a bit frightened by orientals😁.

@Judy that sounds traumatic. I went to school in inner city Manchester. I was from down south and I remember them trying to teach me Manchester Sounds, as I didn't speak like them☺️

@teta I agree about Tom Ford. Hugely overpriced and so many people have said that TF Neroli Portofino smells like 4711!

I can't decide whether Ffern is clever with their marketing or a PITA with all the waiting lists. I did ask for a 1ml so I can give them a free write up on my blog but they said they didn't have one!

SOTD Ormonde Jayne Indus from the Route de la Soie Range. Just had some samples from the brand. Gorgeous.

Shrillharridan · 21/10/2020 17:50

Sotd tauer ACDD

I get the rage a bit with Tom Ford...bit emperors new clothes to me...if tabu or panache or tweed were bottled with a TF label on people would happily pay £200 per bottle.
That being said, TF noir de noir is gorgeous! :)

I'm fed up today.

Shrillharridan · 21/10/2020 17:51

No idea what I think about ffern.

I have ishooos with company's jumping on the "clean" perfume bandwagon...no such bloody thing! Grrrrr

1frenchfoodie · 21/10/2020 20:13

That is a kind offer to send a decant of Velvet Cherry floofy , it sounds gourmand yet still up my spicy/woody street. I’d happily send something in the other direction (e.g. Bois d’ascese - a winter favourite though a bit marmite) in France though so not sure how feasible/affordable it would be.

SOTD MMM By the Fireplace, delicious and warming if a bit sweeter than my usual choices. DH had the cheek to tell our 4yo she ‘stank’ of it after hugging me goodbye this morning - had her all pouty sad, idiot.

I’ve pretty much leapt from solid working class (council estate, single parent dinnerlady mum etc) to what anyone I grew up with would label middle class OneNight. Feels a bit weird (though I am pretty sure the real middle class would spot me as an interloper Grin ).

Never heard of ffern; is it pretty niche? All the fragrantica ratings seem to be based on 1 or 2 people.

MissBattleaxe · 21/10/2020 20:33

Ffern is a tiny company that makes perfumes four times in the Pagan year. They claim to be organic and there's always a waiting list. I haven't tried the perfume. They don't do samples. Not even a little 1ml one to a friendly blogger!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/10/2020 21:15

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday Morning.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t crying into my tea about memories of school! Funnily enough, DP was the opposite, scholarship boy at a very fancy private school, but single parent family, mum working all hours to pay for cricket whites and skiing trips so he would fit in with his classmates.

Shrillharridan · 22/10/2020 12:15

Sotd 4160 temptation.

Shrillharridan · 22/10/2020 13:27

My haul of Bath bubbles and shower gels have arrived judy
All smell lovely 😍

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/10/2020 14:09

Glad you like, shrill!

FloofyFoolishYetFragrant · 22/10/2020 16:50

@teta what do you think of Tender? I have just tried Blousy and definitely do not like it. But I want to like the Miller Harris ones as the descriptions and notes sound so nice!

On that note and the MH cherry velvet @1frenchfoodie, I have no idea how I forgot you're not in the U.K. BlushI don't think Royal Mail let us send perfume abroad unless the policy has changed recently?

I still can't make up my mind about this cherry one and don't know whether it's just me not back up to sniffing scratch. Would anyone UK based like me to send them a small decant? (Sorry french I feel really bad about that now!) Really interested to see what someone else thinks of it as I'm 50:50 on whether the dry down and longevity is worth the wait. Also would be nice to send something cheery to someone! Smile

I'm still waiting for DH to haul my winter perfumes out of the loft Due to my shit memory, I can't actually remember a lot of what's in there so there will be pleasant surprises Blush

Re advent calendar I am OK with going to the post office as we have to go occasionally anyway to send recorded stuff...but I am aware I am very unreliable atm and don't want to commit to sending if I don't manage it. But I could send them well before December to make sure it's done? I also like the idea of us doing reviews though. I like our advent calendars however we do it!

@MissBattleaxe I can't believe Ffern were so foolish! You should have said "do you know who I am?"Grin

Agree Tom Ford is annoying in its wankiness and faux shock names and it actually annoys me that I like their Neroli Portofino so much (I really love it Blush) I prefer to give my money to the Perfume Parlour for their dupe! (Also I can't afford TF prices anyway so it's a moot point Grin) On that note, I have definitely "slid down the social scale" Grin which means I have very champagne tastes on very little beer money and everyone round here thinks I am a wanker when they hear me speak Grin Happy with the choices I have made though, even though we have lots of financial and employment worries at the moment. I think at the moment these problems affect all social classes and income brackets however.

Well that's depressing, let's go back to perfume! If there are any takers for a little decent of the Velvet cherry let me know or PM me Smile

MissBattleaxe · 22/10/2020 16:57

@FloofyFoolishYetFragrant thanks for the vote of confidence! I felt very crestfallen. Sad

MissBattleaxe · 22/10/2020 16:59

I was bullied at school for being "posh" (raised in a council house), ginger (true) and walking funny. Nice.

MissBattleaxe · 22/10/2020 17:00

In happier news, Avon Herstory smells like La Vie est Belle, so if you know someone who likes it but you don't want to spend more than £8 on them, there's your answer!

KaliforniaDreamz · 22/10/2020 17:03

FloofyFoolishYetFragrant i would love to try it bc i am a MH addict!
MissBattleaxe strange they refused you, short sighted i would say.

SOTD soemthing vanilla can't remember what it's called.

Shrillharridan · 22/10/2020 17:03

I was bullied too.
Grew up poor, lived in a Council house, had braces wore glasses and was chubby!
My love of cheapy avon perfumes began back then ☺

Shrillharridan · 22/10/2020 17:04

missb pffft! I shall now eshew ffern forever!
