Thread for discussing the contents of the lovely Holland & Barrett 2020 advent calendar.

Please - no spoilers! Can we agree not to give away what's behind each door before that day?

See you all on 1st December!

Yes, me too. I don't mind it being cardboard and battered looking, all the value is on the inside, and I've been really pleased with it. Four doors left to open (I think I've got 21 back in the right place, but it may have wandered again!).

PalacePaper · 20/12/2020 18:19

@whatToDoHerre

Pleased enough with today's.

Am I the only one who is tempted to just open the rest of the doors now? I'll have nothing tomorrow (the infamous door 21 that appeared in every other door), and my calendar has almost fallen apart. I'm thinking maybe I'll just open everything now so I can put it out with the bins tonight...

I thought exactly the same today! I'm already opening a day early, in the evening, as there's a door for Christmas Day and Christmas morning is always hectic so I don't think I'll appreciate it as much - that's my excuse anyway Wink
Chrysanthemum5 · 20/12/2020 18:25

We are moving furniture around to create a study space for DS and it ended up that the advent calendar was just taking up too much space so I've opened the remaining doors. Won't give anything away but I really liked them all (including the infamous number 21!)

secretlyhappy · 20/12/2020 20:12

I used the shampoo and conditioner bars again tonight. It was much easier to use them because they had softened. I might get these in the future.

I am not opening early because I open calendars today together with dd.

MirandaWest · 20/12/2020 22:24

I used the shampoo and conditioner today - think the conditioner went on better than other solid ones I’ve used

SpeckledyHen · 21/12/2020 07:11

Oooh I wonder what it will be today ? 🤣

Day 21: Dr Organic Reishi Ultra Hydrating Moisture Mask

PLEASE read the reviews on the H&B site before trying this! Lots of people are reporting bad reactions like sunburn! Shock

Bluesheep8 · 21/12/2020 07:44

Thank you for the advice about the face mask! Given that it seems to have been sneaking around the calendar and popping up behind random doors, we should have known it would be trouble! Grin
On a more positive note, I went into H and B yesterday to look for some full sizes of things I liked and the beauty balm is half price at the moment - £6.75! Xmas Grin

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 21/12/2020 07:49

Ooh, thanks, @Bluesheep8. I really liked the beauty balm, will go and look today!

I just slathered it straight on this morning and hadn't read this but can confirm i did get a burning sensation on the skin when I applied it and I dont have sensitive skin at all, throw all sorts of acids and retinoids at it! There is no redness though now I've washed off and skin feels really soft. Won't buy again though as think its for more dry skin types

GreatSoprendo · 21/12/2020 10:22

If you do like the product today the money off voucher on the door is another really generous 50% off.

I've never treated myself to an advert calendar before but am absolutely buying this again next year. It's been such a treat, and I'll be enjoying it well into the new year. It's a brilliant buy!

Jumbojem · 21/12/2020 11:51

Another who slathered the mask on before reading here! My skin does feel warm and I don't usually have strong reactions to products, so def not one for sensitive skins. My skin is soft though in the plus side!

CountryCob · 21/12/2020 11:52

Yes I am really happy with the calendar, going do to a daily opening as I like the little boost of having it to do. I have had better packaged advents before but that is quite temporary enjoyment and the products and price more than made up for it, especially trying things to reduce impact on environment. Today was empty but I bought some dresses in the John Lewis sale which were really good value including one for Christmas and a few for work. I know it is unlikely they will get much use but it cheers me up and they were about £31 from £160....

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 21/12/2020 11:55

@CountryCob It's probably lurking inside the calendar somewhere. Might be worth taking it apart when it's finished?

Congrats on the dresses! I tried to cheer myself up with a new dress from H&M the other day. It did cheer me up but for all the wrong reasons...it was hysterically awful! Xmas Grin DS said that it made me look like a shepherd in a school play and he was spot on!

Thanks for the warning about the mask, I'll give it away as I have very sensitive skin. I wouldn't have read the reviews either, so genuinely, thank you!

Inspired by another poster I opened Day 25 today as I can't bear not having a door a day (my 21 had also popped into an earlier one).

It's a good one and full size I think.

Bluesheep8 · 21/12/2020 12:49

Ooof, I think I might have to open my 25th as well now! Xmas Shock

lookdeepintotheparka · 21/12/2020 12:56

I opened no 22 today and am really pleased with that one! I'm just going to work a day ahead - not bothered about not having one to open on Christmas Day.

Thanks to pp for the tip off about the face mask. I've got very sensitive skin so sadly won't be risking it Xmas Sad

Have really enjoyed the calendar again this year and will definitely be re-buying some of my favourite things!

CountryCob · 21/12/2020 14:04

@IToldYouIWasFreaky that is funny, Shepard in school play not the look I am after. The sale dresses in John Lewis are so beautiful they look like Tess would wear them in strictly. Had to talk myself out of the long ones with a reminder about how many years it has been since I needed one of those. Time will tell if the delivery lives up to expectations.....

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 22/12/2020 07:41

Pleased with today’s! I’ve had a shower this morning so will try it tomorrow.

WandaDavy · 22/12/2020 08:03

Mine felt all damp and probably needs using asap. Had the humidifier going for several nights as baby is snotty so maybe it was soaking up the moisture!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 22/12/2020 08:05

I have the hide of a rhino (though prone to hormonal spots) so will try the mask and report back.

Gotthetshirt23 · 22/12/2020 08:34

Mines damp - leaked through the box Hmm

Mmmm mine too. The internal packaging doesn't completely cover it. It's like when DH cuts paper to wrap a present, discovers it doesn't quite fit but thinks "Bugger, it'll do" Grin
