Thread for discussing the contents of the lovely Holland & Barrett 2020 advent calendar.

Please - no spoilers! Can we agree not to give away what's behind each door before that day?

See you all on 1st December!

I like these - will take them on holiday but need to find a container for them.

whatToDoHerre · 18/12/2020 10:10

I did look at the products before purchasing the calendar, but I forgot most of them. I did remember these though, and I have to say I thought they would be bugger (greedy I know). But it's good we got shampoo and conditioner in one door

lookdeepintotheparka · 18/12/2020 10:32

Great to get both shampoo and conditioner today!

I'll be interested to compare with my Gruum solid shampoo which is the only brand I've tried and liked so far! Although the Ethique brand is a lot more expensive for the full size (I'm guessing that's why we got the trial sizes of both?!)

Jumbojem · 18/12/2020 11:42

Loved yesterday's, so pretty! Also pleased with today's and looking forward to trying them. I've kept all the products from the calendar out on my bedside table so I can see the collection. Looking at the stash so far this morning I'm definitely pleased with this calendar and would like it next year. Mentioned it to a few friends as well, one who is sensitive to some products but I think a lot of what we've had should be ok.

Housewife2010 · 18/12/2020 11:58

The H&B has been such brilliant value. It's my second year after hearing about it here. It cost me £36 and H&B have just emailed me £1.50 of loyalty points. Total bargain. Thanks to the earlier poster who said the solid conditioner can be used for shaving. My husband will use the solid shampoo. I'd recommended this calendar to a friend who usually gets the M&S. She's opening each day as a total surprise and loves it. I looked at the list before buying it so can't remember much.

secretlyhappy · 18/12/2020 18:57

I tried both of them today. Shampoo lathers less than Gruum one and I prefer the latter. The conditioner bar was much better than Gruum one. This actually made my hair easy to untangle after shower. I also used the turmeric shower gel, which reminds me a spa I sometimes go. At the end I tried the face toner and found it nice.

I tried the face oil last night and it hadn't sunk in by the morning and my face was oily. Maybe I put too much on but I don't think I will use it again on my face.

CountryCob · 18/12/2020 20:39

Sounds like the solid shampoos etc are a hit, I am happy with the last few days and tried the make up brush today which I like although it is not a blending brush as described. Would swap something for another even liked it a lot, glad we have this calendar to cheer us up a bit in Covid!

Bluesheep8 · 19/12/2020 06:42

Today's is great, looking forward to trying it

WrinklesShminkles · 19/12/2020 08:17

20ml night cream. Smells lovely and sinks in well. Very pleased.

Day 19: Urban Veda Reviving Renewal Night Cream

I'm going to put this one away for now as I'm really enjoying using the oil at night and it doesn't feel like I need anything else on top. Always glad to have a night cream!

I feel like the calendar has really stepped up the last few days! I love the toner/serum stuff.

I’ve been using solid shampoo and conditioner for a while now. I don’t use it every time, I sometimes use normal ones. But a tip I got in Lush is to keep the conditioner bar in a small pot with a little bit of water in it. The bottom of the bar goes all mushy like when normal soap is left in a puddle of water. Then just can just scoop a bit off each time and pop a little more water in. It works really well.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/12/2020 18:06

That's a good tip Sunny, thanks. Although I like solid bars in theory, my curly hair means I seem to get loads of it caught in the bar, then spend ages getting rid of it.

OdeToAutumn · 19/12/2020 23:29

I used the shampoo and conditioner bars today. I had to go over my hair quite a few times with the shampoo one, but I do have long thick hair. I liked them, just not sure I’d find them as convenient or how long each bar would last.

Spaghettibetty345 · 20/12/2020 03:13

I really liked the shampoo bar I’ve been wanting to try one for a while. It doesn’t smell of very much which I was disappointed. The conditioner bar smell a lot better but I found it difficult to use in my hair and the e scent didn’t stay. I am definitely open to try more solid shampoo bars. I agree with others who have said the last few days the products have stepped up.

SpeckledyHen · 20/12/2020 06:34

Today’s. couldn’t be any better timing , waking up in Tier 4 today . Only hope it works !!

OdeToAutumn · 20/12/2020 06:53

@SpeckledyHen I’m intrigued! I’m still in bed so haven’t opened it but also waking up in tier 4

WandaDavy · 20/12/2020 08:00

As nice as this is, I have several already and never really use them so will be re-gifting.

starlight36 · 20/12/2020 08:00

I just came on to post that H&B timed this one perfectly. Myself and two DC are currently trying it out We had tears this morning when they remembered the Tier 4 news.

PalacePaper · 20/12/2020 08:09

I'm very happy with the shampoo and conditioner. I already use ethique shampoo but my hair tends to be oily so I use the St Clements one - better than any liquid shampoo for me - so I'll save this one for a holiday (might be a bit of a wait Grin) The conditioner is maybe a little heavy on my hair but I'll see how I get on with it.

Thank you for the feedback on the deodorant - I definitely want to try a natural version.

I like today's a lot, I've got something similar but the scent is quite different...might go and look up the ingredients. What timing with the announcements yesterday!

lookdeepintotheparka · 20/12/2020 08:30

I've already got a few of these essential oil roller balls but the irony wasn't lost on me either after the announcement last night Sad

Putting all worries to one side, this calendar has been a light in the darkness this winter and I'm enjoying everything I've used so far (maybe other than the ear bud Grin)

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 20/12/2020 12:56

Day 20: Tisserand DeStress Roller Ball

Impeccable timing to wake up to being in Tier 4 and to receive an anti-stress product!

I love this, it smells great and I've been offering dabs to DS and DP too.

Pleased enough with today's.

Am I the only one who is tempted to just open the rest of the doors now? I'll have nothing tomorrow (the infamous door 21 that appeared in every other door), and my calendar has almost fallen apart. I'm thinking maybe I'll just open everything now so I can put it out with the bins tonight...

whatToDoHerre · 20/12/2020 16:15

Well I caved and opened the rest of the calendar.

I won't spoil it for the rest, but I have to say this calendar has been excellent value with a great mix of things. Definitely one for people who don't want make up bits.

SpeckledyHen · 20/12/2020 17:03

My 21 turned up elsewhere so I’m going to open 22 tomorrow and finish a day early.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 20/12/2020 17:44

I'm not going to open the rest now. I've moved no 21 back to it's rightful place a million times! I understand why people want to though, my calendar is looking very tatty. It arrived a bit battered and removing doors has not helped!
I think it's been great though, really good value for money and I've loved most of the products. And I have a few things stashed away to enjoy early next year. It's a definite re-buy for me next year
