For a size 10 woman in her early thirties FWIW, thinking of the Oak colour. I keep going back and forth... I want a stylish warm raincoat - is this as good as it gets?

My sensible MIL has bought the sea salt one which was another reason for me sending it back

Itsokthanks · 13/09/2020 20:11

It's very frumpy for someone in their early thirties. I'm 47 and wouldn't wear it. On a positive note I love the colour.

Opalfruitsstrawberry · 13/09/2020 20:12

@W3dontdoduvets

It’s a coat you might see for sale in a Sunday supplement.
Ouch! Grin

OP, I feel your pain. also looking for a waterproof wintercoat (not rain jacket) which looks good. I was thinking about the plant hunter too but it ticks more the practical boxes than the one on the looks department. And the ones I like are out of my price range. hopefully someone is coming along with some good suggestions.

Dreamersandwishers · 13/09/2020 20:14

Have a look at Ilse Jacobsen. I have had one of her 2/3 coats for a few years now. It’s shaped and goes anywhere. I also love my Didricksons parka but it is very toasty.
I am also a size 10, 5’5”” but in my 50s.
Seasalt is way too frumpy for me, even for walking dogs.

chunkyrun · 13/09/2020 20:15

It looks cosy and practical

Siw2020 · 13/09/2020 20:15

Way too frumpy/lacks shape, boring for my liking (similar age to you). Sorry! Also too overpriced for a meh item.

FOKKYFC · 13/09/2020 20:16

I like it. I don't think it's the least bit frumpy, although it's about fifty quid over what I'd pay for it.

BitOfFun · 13/09/2020 20:16

I think it's gorgeous. It's a shame they've been so unadventurous with the colours though, bar perhaps the turquoise one.

GreasyFryUp · 13/09/2020 20:17

I second Ilse Jacobsen.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 13/09/2020 20:18

My teen pick this for herself in Oak, she wears it to school.

Ellewoods20 · 13/09/2020 20:18

I like the coat but not the colour. I prefer the turquoise (mast I think they called it). If it helps I'm 10 years younger than you and don't think it's frumpy

Opalfruitsstrawberry · 13/09/2020 20:20

@BlueTitsRock

Protected species have a winter parka

it's lovely but eye watering expensive.

Hmm am now wondering whether to splash out on this. But is it much less frumpy, really?

Sorry but it looks like a tent. May be practical and I like the colour. But I will not buy it.

Marble2302 · 13/09/2020 20:22

I am 35 and I wouldn't wear it, my Mum who is 53 said the same. I think it is very frumpy and Mumsy. My Nan would like it.

Morninglatte · 13/09/2020 20:23

I'm 30 and I would wear it. I would say it looks more practical and comfortable than stylish, but definitely not grumpy or too boring.

Morninglatte · 13/09/2020 20:23

*Frumpy

Daisy62 · 13/09/2020 20:28

I have this coat and am late 50s. I tried loads of coats on before I bought this. I wanted a coat that really would keep me warm and dry. I wouldn’t wear it for stylish occasions like nights out unless it’s pouring rain. Happy with it for everyday wear but more likely to wear my wool coat for town wear if it’s not raining. It’s warm and very waterproof. Hard to get stylish, warm and properly waterproof In non-hiking wear. I’d buy it again, it looks good with jeans and with short skirts which are my main outfits. My teen daughter wouldn’t wear it as too mumsy.

ParisianLady · 13/09/2020 20:28

It's practical but not in the slightest bit stylish.

Anthilda · 13/09/2020 20:30

@DrDetriment given up on life coat GrinGrin

OP, I will try to find the ones I've been looking at if I can find them again.

LoeliaPonsonby · 13/09/2020 20:31

Frumpy but practical. For proper Weather, I do relax style rules (if it’s chucking it down and I’ve got to go out, I want a proper waterproof; ditto the cold), but you can do better.

The problem is if you buy it for proper wet days, you wind up wearing it just because it’s handy.

I don’t think the Protected Species winter parka is any better though. The Commuter jacket is better.

ItsmineAllmine · 13/09/2020 20:31

Seasalt and Protected Species are loved on MN, I can't see the appeal.

OP, I think the first one is frumpy and the second one is just dull. And it's £245! Totally overpriced. Looks like the sort of coat you'd buy in Asda (not that there's abything wrong with that, mind!)

MrsVeryTired · 13/09/2020 20:31

Tog24 do some nice coats, usually quite stylish, imo, although I'm late 40's. Not keen on the coat you linked but Seasalt/Boden not really my kind of thing.

KimMarie34 · 13/09/2020 20:31

I like it but I think it's a bit too long.

2andahalfpints · 13/09/2020 20:32

The second one is worse imo, lands end do a nice range
