For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

No, totally different. It feels like a light moisturiser, no slippery/matte feel. I'm impressed so far!

QueenPawPaws · 04/02/2021 15:14

Dabbed on my hand then rubbed in

Am now on .027% Tret and I have a spot!

Also am incredibly dry so may need a richer moisturiser, and lay off the Vit C.

popularinthe80s · 04/02/2021 15:50

@botemp, good points, sadly...

Jedstre · 04/02/2021 19:25

I ordered the Dr Sam gossamer spf 50. I got the lightest shade and it is indeed very light. It really doesn’t offer any colour so isn’t an alternative to tinted moisturiser etc. It’s fairly rich, which I would usually avoid, but it’s fine at the moment while the weather is cold.

Otherwise my routine hasn’t changed much although I’m not using vitamin c at the moment. I haven’t noticed any difference but I’ll reintroduce one again in the spring.

I’m still using dermatica tret/niacinamide,but I’ll switch to skin &me when it’s finished, and P50 a couple of nights a week when I’m not using tret.

SophieLion · 05/02/2021 11:08

My foreo bear has (finally) arrived!!

Looking forward to using it later.

SophieLion · 05/02/2021 11:09

Hi jedstre! Interesting to hear you haven't noticed a difference without vit C because I think vit C is causing my skin to become very sensitive so thinking to stop using it altogether.

Jedstre · 05/02/2021 13:34

Hi SophieLion. Yes I just haven’t noticed any difference and I was using this Skinceuticals www.skinceuticals.co.uk/en_GB/phloretin-cf/635494328202.html

It’s 10% L ascorbic acid, rather than the 15% in their original CE formula but I got the phloretin version as it’s designed for oily skin like mine.

Before that I used Timeless and have previously used The ordinary (gritty one and silicone one) and GOW.

Let us know how you get on with foreo bear. I’m still using NuFace intermittently. Discussions on here have reminded me to use it more regularly. I just use ultrasound gel and wash off afterwards.

VillageFete · 05/02/2021 13:48

3 weeks in to tret (0.015%) and I have some white heads and a white lump on my chin. Isn’t tret supposed to stop whiteheads/blackheads? Am I purging?

botemp · 05/02/2021 13:59

Sounds like purging Fête, I hardly ever have spots but tret definitely brought out all sorts when introducing and in places I rarely see any spot activity.

Sophie, so glad it's finally here! Did you have to pay and extra taxes?

OP posts:
SophieLion · 05/02/2021 14:13

I also purged (a lot) when I first started tret village.

I'm on 10% vit C now jedstre but my skin is generally super sensitive - I had big doses of hormones in March and then the mirena coil put in and my skin has been playing up since then. My spots are also much worse so will take mirena out and hopefully when skin has calmed down I will start vit C again. I was using timeless too but found it too strong.

No, no extra taxes bo. It was surprisingly quick to get here once it arrived in greece. It's taken almost a month with 2 weeks plus in UK and then one week in Velo, NL (it was still There yesterday morning).

Now trying to figure out how to open the plastic packaging....

VillageFete · 05/02/2021 19:21

Thanks, Ladies. So I just keep on with it and it should pass eventually?

I take Omega 3 supplements from Bare Biology (Great company, very “clean”) I decided to try their marine collagen. Whilst I don’t look like I’m drinking from a fountain of youth since starting it (Clearly I never will) But my hair and nails are really strong and growing rapidly since beginning their Omega 3 and Collagen.

NinnyNewName · 06/02/2021 21:33

Sali Hughes' Guardian column talking about vit Cs today...

SophieLion · 07/02/2021 09:46

I had an acne problem when I started tret village and I purged really badly. Think it took 3 months for my skin to clear.

Thanks ninny. I just had a look. The prices though....!!!

My bear has two settings : basic and pro. The basic has a maximum of 22 and the pro has a maximum of 27. So mine isn't the same as the ones in the you tube videos (which have a max of 25). Are yours also like that?

botemp · 07/02/2021 10:09

My bear has 5 levels Confused where are these additional settings?

Village, yeah, it lasted a few weeks with me, but from that I sort of got why some dermatologist say not to do it gentle but just power through really quickly just to get past that stage. Did this occur after a strength upgrade?

OP posts:
VillageFete · 07/02/2021 13:26

@botemp No, i’m still on 0.015% I’m due to change to 0.0.25% next week.

First couple of uses I seemed to look quite fresh and a little glowy. Now I look tired and a bit dull?!!

NinnyNewName · 07/02/2021 13:35

My bear is the same as Bo's.

SophieLion · 07/02/2021 16:34

Bo, ninny, I have the 5 light settings on the front of the device. But, when I go into the foreo app, I click on my bear device then go to settings. It opens up "microcurrent intensity" and asks if I want basic or pro mode. Basic mode is until 22 and pro mode is until 27 (I know this because the treatment program goes up to 27 on pro mode and 22 on basic mode).

Do yours not do this? I assumed the modes didn't apply only to treatments via the app. Or am I confused? Confused

Tsmummy08 · 07/02/2021 16:53

Hi Sophie, I chose "basic" mode when I first used the Bear with the app, but will go back and redo it as "pro" and see if that makes it more tingly :)

I'm loving it actually and think it has made a difference but haven't done "after" photos yet... hope I'm not deluding myself!

SophieLion · 07/02/2021 17:03

I have used the bear 3 times now (using an advanced program on a you tube video that bo had kindly posted). So far I've had it on basic mode too but may as well put it on pro.

How long have you been using your bear Tsmummy?

botemp · 07/02/2021 17:52

Ah, I've looked now too, the app wasn't this fancy when I first used it, you just had a demo program and that was it. I'll try the pro setting tonight 😬

I'm coming close to the 8 week mark now, I'm really pleased with it. I did take before pictures but I've also been on an elimination diet for medical reasons for months now and started reintroducing around the same time I started the bear and some things definitely influence my face so it's not really a good before and after but regardless I'm still really loving the results.

OP posts:
VillageFete · 07/02/2021 17:56

What is this bear? Do tell....

botemp · 07/02/2021 17:58

Foreo Bear (aka the face vibrator from Sweden Blush)

OP posts:
VillageFete · 07/02/2021 19:34

Grin Oh I will give that a Google!

Tsmummy08 · 07/02/2021 20:03

Sophie Thnk it's been about a month now... I've used it most days and do a version of the "advanced" program Bo linked to (I avoid my forehead because of Botox) and don't bother too much with my neck... it takes about 3 cycles, so 9 minutes, sometimes less.
