Does anyone still use a purse?

Honestly can't remember the last time I carried or used cash. If you use a card holder, how do you get on with it? And any recommendations for a nice leather one - up to £100 ish?

I still use a purse. I have quite a large one because I often keep receipts/bits of paper/gift cards and so forth. I have far too many cards so I don’t know if a card holder would fit them all!

My DH has a lovely leather ‘pop up’ card holder which is really slimline and convenient because like you he hardly ever carries cash. I will double check the brand for you but if you Google ‘pop up card holder’ there are a few options.

I use a card holder mainly and love it, I am able to use a smaller bag than I would if I had to lump a purse all the time. I've used a purse the last week as I am trying a new way of restricting my spending but I much prefer just card wallet to be honest. I have a Amanda wakeley I brought from their website in the loft section.

I've seen some really nice ones online - some for ££££! Just been through purse and I need it to have 6 slots. All my loyalty cards are on an app and just registered breakdown membership on my phone so that card can go. Just wondered if a card holder is fiddly at checkouts

I pay for everything on my phone, I don’t carry anything!

Lemonylemony · 06/09/2020 09:44

I have a cheapo phone case which has card slots in the cover. Everything in one place. Simples Smile

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 06/09/2020 09:45

I have a pop up card holder for bank cards because it blocks the card from being read accidentally/fraudulently.
For receipts and loyalty cards and loose change I do have a purse. TKMaxx often have nice ones.

HowLongToXmas · 06/09/2020 10:01

What about when you need coins? For shopping trolleys or car parks for example? Where do you keep those if you are not carrying a purse? My purse is huge, filled with cards, receipts and coins. I love it but it's big and weighs a ton.

Ilikewinter · 06/09/2020 10:05

I havent carried cash for months, but i do have a small Ted Baker card holder that has a zipped bit for a few coins or a couple of folded up notes. Car parking paid on phone and supermarket trolleys have been unlocked.

JaceLancs · 06/09/2020 10:08

I have a small Kipling purse - mainly use for cards and receipts

birkenstocks4ever · 06/09/2020 10:10

@HowLongToXmas I have all the parking apps on my phone and trolley token in the car. The only time I've used cash in last six months is to pay window cleaner and put a tenner in a birthday card. Cafe at work is cashless, kids get pocket money via direct debit and our local ice cream man has a card reader! 😁

I guess those who don't carry purses at all live in towns. Smile Our barber only takes cash or cheque. The farm shop and butcher take cash or card over £5.

My purse is full of ds' birthday vouchers, JLP vouchers, Tesco vouchers, cash, store cards, security pass for ds swimming lessons, driving license, etc.

WestendVBroadway · 06/09/2020 10:12

I still use a purse, because I still use cash!

RedCatBlueCat · 06/09/2020 10:14

Yes, I still use a purse.
Library cards, change for kids subs, school bits and bobs, parking -not everywhere is mobile pay here, sending kids to the shops, loyalty cards, credit card, debit card, driving licence. Bizarrely I also keep stamps in my purse.
Receipts once I've bought something, vouchers that tesco send me for money off.
I'd be in a mess without one.

Gobolino80 · 06/09/2020 10:21

I still use a purse but could probably get away with a cardholder these days as I hardly ever have cash on me. I keep all the soppy little notes DP has ever written me in there though!
My ex-sister in law once gave me the most beautiful Smythson purse as a Christmas present (she had a friend who worked there and at Christmas they could buy seconds or end of line stuff for next to nothing so she used to make a killing selling them on). It would have lasted forever and cost a fortune brand new, it was so well made and just lovely. Anyway, to cut a long story short due to a horrendous New Year's Day hangover and me being a total doofus it ended up in a bin outside a McDonalds on the A30 and I never saw it again, despite ringing them and pleading with them to root through the bin which they were unsurprisingly reluctant to do. I was so gutted. This is why I can't have nice things Confused

BestIsWest · 06/09/2020 10:31

I’ve used a wallet for years. I do get landed with change sometimes but it goes either into my pocket, a pocket in my bag or into the car where I keep it for parking. Then into a jar in the house. You can still carry notes in a wallet you know.

Mine is just a plain navy leather one from TK Maxx.

London1066 · 06/09/2020 10:34

Oliver Bonas have lovely ones.

Does anyone still use a purse?
Isolatedizzy · 06/09/2020 10:34

I had a huge purse but ditched it during lockdown and bought a pink leather cardholder from M&S. it holds about 6 cards and has room for a few pound coins, change for parking, shopping trolleys.
I didn't think I'd get on with it at all but I love it!
I can use my smaller cross body bags - much better!

LouisBalfour · 06/09/2020 10:35

I can't remember the last time I used cash, but I still have a wallet with cards in it and random receipts. I tend to take out only my phone these days.

LioneIRichTea · 06/09/2020 10:37

I pay for everything on my phone, I don’t carry anything!

I’ve been doing this since lockdown, it’s actually liberating. I haven’t used a handbag at all and have realised how much junk I carry around 🙈

Carycy · 06/09/2020 10:42

I have a card holder with a little coin purse on the back of it. That’s my perfect compromise.

Polkasquare · 06/09/2020 10:45

Yes, because I use cash.

Neversayn1 · 06/09/2020 10:46

I still use a purse. I thought most people did.
I have all different bank cards and loyalty cards etc. Other wise I would loose everything.

Rockbird · 06/09/2020 10:48

I use my watch or phone for pretty much everything but I couldn't ditch my purse. Still too many receipts, loyalty cards, stamps, driving licence, and change for trolleys etc.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/09/2020 10:59

I have a beautiful Orla Kiely purse my DP bought me years ago which I haven’t used since March. Nor my usual lovely handbag which is an oxblood leather cross body from Jigsaw.

I’m using a small black vintage cross body bag which I used to take to gigs - remember those? - and a little brown leather coin purse with cards in that.

chrissycn11 · 06/09/2020 11:02

Zara do small bags with card slots in them. I have stopped using my purse and bought a couple of these bags instead.
