What to do with curly hair? Pics

Just as the title really. I follow the CGM. Quite happy with the curls (albeit a bit frizzy this evening). But sometimes think it is just a bit shapeless/no real style. Added with the grey I think I need to do something to just make the shape better?

Any thoughts? Opinions. Can take bluntness and honesty so hit me with it.

A few more layers? Piecey bits around my cheekbones? Cut it shorter? Grow it longer? Do I have any stylish options you could recommend?
Help please?

The white streak at the front is fantastic. It stops face and hair from blending into each other. You should get more white streaks put in. They will add dimension/definition - a 3-D effect, all around.

Also get some shorter layers cut so that the outer layer (the 'thatch') will be lighter and not require so much floofing.

Have you ever had your 'colours' done?
The blue shirt in the most recent pic drowns you, whereas the light turquoise one upthread highlighted your complexion and features, especially your eyes.

That turquoise is 100% my best colour. The lighting for both blue & turquoise photos was very different (glorious sunshines vs a bit of a drab day today).

Had my colours done years back but she kept referring to the "warm colours in your hair". Which was dyed (a not great colour for me to be honest with some dodgy copper highlights). The colours that suited me post-grey are totally different to either pre and during dye days. I used to look fantastic in salmony/orangy pink stuff -makes me look positively awful now.

Brighter pinks/blues/reds/purples seem to be better than most. Though nothing beats the turquoise.....

@Tanaqui

It makes me want to do CG too! But is your hair quite thick to start with? Mine is very fine and limp. Any tips?!

God no....my hair is a fine as anything. And can be limp. Actually it is a bit limp today as I over-moisturised it a bit (too much leave in, plus I did a purple-conditioner co-wash to de-yellow it a bit). Anyway - fine hair can still be CG successful, you just have to pick your products with care. So many of the products are rich and heavy - lots of shea butter/coconut etc which just makes my hair limp and the curls drop.

I normally just use Faith in Nature Dragon Fruit conditioner plus either Umberto Gianni (?sp?) curl jelly plus or Boucleme Superhold gel. Seems happy - but, as above, if it does get a bit limp I just dial back on the conditioner a bit next time I wash.

I have no advice - but you are so striking! Really gorgeous hair and cheekbones. I am envious!

You look amazing. Have you tried clipping your parting as per the curly girl handbook? Vicky Queen of Curls always does this with my fine hair and it adds volume to the parting without losing curl definition. But your hair looks better than mine as I am still waiting for my post lockdown visit to Vicky!

@whiskyremorse please can you tell me more about clipping the parting?

You are really beautiful

Totally agree. Stunning. Your mouth!! 💋 If someone told me you were a film star (like Gillian Anderson, for instance), I'd absolutely believe them. As for your hair, you don't 'need' to do anything with it but I'd wash it with purple shampoo to keep it clean and ashy. Fanola is best barr none.

@SierraOscar have a Google of clipping curly hair. I can't find a good image this far down my Friday wine! But you basically put clips at the root of each curl at the parting and remove when your hair has dried to give volume.

Thank you - I shall try this

Thank you for the amazing compliments. I really cannot see it myself - just the frizz, grey, wrinkles, squishy nose, pale skin etc but we are always so hyper-critical of ourselves aren't we.

It's fantastic

If I was going to do anything I'd put more grey in as it's still got lots of brown round the sides

I'd do fuck all with the length

Side parting looks fab! Looks a bit softer.

You're very beautiful..i like the side parting (shows off your cheek bones and eyes) and would grow it an inch or two longer.

I think you should have your colours done again. You could definitely wear colours that white-blondes wear, especially with your complexion and eye colour.

My mum went from naturally dark brown to dyed dark brown to naturally white but continued to wear what had suited her as a brunette until Dsis and I had a wardrobe intervention.

I really like the side parting. I would lob a few cm off as well. I find the slightly shorter lengths on the 'before CGM' picture suited you better. You still look amazing!

My hair is very similar to yours. I don't "floof" it because that tends to ruin the curls, but I have found that the Bumble & Bumble thickening dryspun texture spray works wonders to create more volume.

I prefer the side parting on you.

Also, I think a sharper, square cut, slightly shorter bottom line, like a bob, would give it more of a definite style.

I think your hair looks great! Great style and colour and really suits you. If you were going out, you could put a nice fabric hair and on (Black for evening or multicoloured/pattern for day time). I think that would instantly add the wow factor

WhereToCut you've inspired me to order some products to start the curly girl method. My hair is somewhere in between your before and after pictures, but definitely more similar to the before.

Mine is grey too, and I will be over the moon if it ends up looking like yours Wink

I’ve learnt the trick to a good side parting is for it to actually run diagonally, so it’s at the side at the front but ends up towards the centre at the back. That way the volume ends up more even and you don’t have random curls trying to flip back over to the other side (not sure if that happens to everyone but it does to me)

I tried with the side parting but just cannot get on with it. It hangs in my eyes, is on my face, I keep having to push it away causing frizz (and is my driest/most frizz prone area anyway). So I knew that was not a goer. Too Argghhhhhh!

I did think about just getting a trim but I just kept seeing how my hair was hanging vertically and making my face seem long.

So it was haircut day yesterday. And please forgive me oh S&B gurus - but I did have a bit of a re-style. Just some layers to stop it "hanging" so much. It is off my face more and think it is way more flattering. I can see my cheekbones now.

Was done dry, curl by curl, by a Lorraine Massey trained stylist.

It is protesting at me a bit (hates being cut so the ringlets will take a day or two to settle) and I look (and am) absolutely knackered. And have been cutting onions (bleary eye make up). But pic attached.
